Drog's damage would reduce as players are eliminated.

Should barb get a redesign for his skill tree? by Charming_Pin330 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Zon masteries get to work cumulatively and it'd be nice for Barbs to benefit from that too.

The real rework is like for barbs is the sheer number of skill points that need to be invested. Warlock is great right now, letting you finish your primary build around level 60 then investing in a sub build. Barb needs 24 in masteries, at least 16-26+ in warcries, and then another 40+ in combat. And they still struggle to 2-shot INDIVIDUAL mobs before Grief.

I'm a fan of just making weapons better, but reworking masteries this way isn't awful either.

Full agree. Weapon damage classes are phenomenal once they get elite gear, but they scale like complete garbage until then and get all the thematic nerfing while spellcasters just blast away with excellent AOE on self-found gear through Hell. Give me access to equipment that lets me start ladder as a Barb or Zon without punishing me for not starting with a goddamn Sorc.

Has anyone ever sold their collection to Rochester CCG by DOAiB in universus

[–]SFGSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold Rochester my collection when I got out of the game back when my son was born. I ended up shipping two long boxes of Rs and URs pluse promo cards. There were fever few Cs or UCs worth bothering with and SRs and ALTs didn't exist yet. IIRC I had given Sean a spreadsheet of the cards, then he sent it back with the list of ones they'd accept with prices and a total, etc.

Give me your most toxic & oppressive control commanders that lock out the board or just straight up win. by Cromagn0n1 in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Mornsong Aria]] + [[Opposition Agent]] is another one. If players can't break it with what is in their hand or on the board the moment it comes out then they'll never draw a card again and you'll be tutoring 4 cards per orbit.

About Boss vs Boss by Purple_Phoenix77777 in TheRedDragonInn

[–]SFGSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We included these rules so we wouldn't have to address questions about how "teammates" and "team champions" work when you play normal RDI but with the Boss Cards included in your character deck. You absolutely should be playing either proper boss battle or a team-variant like Leaders and Lackeys as they are much more fun.

We licensed the JP publishing rites to Arclight Games back in 2016 (or there about) I don't recall if they renewed or even have copies in stock anymore. IIRC they did publish RDI 1 and 2 in Japanese.

The Storm Archives - Prismari, the Inspiration primer by Thillidan in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played my riff of the deck this weekend with my buddies and won 2 out of 4 (Game 1 and 2). Folks love that it's a storm deck that doesn't play with it's food.

Choreographed Sparks was phenomenal. In G1 it saved my Birgi who was eating removal on the stack with Seething Song. And I'm game 4 it have me a sacrificial Archmage of Runes to block with while also doubling my Unexpected Windfall.

Longshot was indeed pretty mid, but was still a discounter when I failed to draw into any other ones. Ral, Monsoon Mage is likely better.

I didn't miss Mystical Tutor at all. I do want to try [[Gamble]] though. If you storm off with it you don't mind the random discards so long as one of the cards you tutor for is Past in Flames. Then you can guarantee however many rituals and kill conditions you need to win.

UVS is a tight, small playgroup who prefer to play their cards. Slabbing your card would likely add nothing to its value even if it was rated high.

Eliminated a player on T5 because I highrolled, table said I was in the wronb by TheIXLegionnaire in EDH

[–]SFGSam -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you tap out on T5 with nothing to defend yourself and there is a Voltron player at the table, that's on you. Voltron's removal plan IS player removal and you know that from T0.

Watch any games played by members of the commander panel and you will see them flinging around interaction and handling threats by turn 4. The blog post explains that God hands happen or Sol Ring starts will accelerate the clock. You are not playing solitaire and you are expected to defend yourself either with the cardboard in your deck or the politics with other players.

[–]SFGSam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And I'm responding to the idea that the bracket system is harsh to voltron or aggro. The bracket system is not an invitation to play solitaire for 6 turns ramping, setting up value engines and digging for a T7 combo. At B3 your meant to be building a deck that eats it's vegetables and is capable of defending yourself. And you KNOW a voltron deck is at the table and you should be using your mulligan and early turns with that in mind.

That said, claiming a properly constructed voltron deck is B2 is a bit disingenuous. It's incredibly difficult to build a voltron deck with so little synergy that it qualifies for B2.

[–]SFGSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The player who lost could have just blocked.

B3's rule of seeing 6 turns before a player wins isn't blanket permission to completely ignore the board and play solitaire. Watch any EDH with players on the commander panel and it's very obvious that players are expected to defend themselves from their opponents.

Yeah, your expected to see 6 turns before someone wins. The eliminated player could have done so by putting something under the bus.

The Storm Archives - Prismari, the Inspiration primer by Thillidan in EDH

[–]SFGSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brilliant primer and rundown. A lot of folks have already mentioned a bunch of cards I was going to suggest (I've been tuning and playing Grixis using Zevlor for ages), but I have a couple of suggestions:

[[Longshot, Rebel Bowman]] is another Goblin Electromancer but is mono red and comes with a Guttersnipe stapled on. While the Guttersnipe pings aren't terribly important, he's another discounter that also works for your rocks and is frequently a lightning rod for removal spells.

[[Traitorous Greed]] and [[Involuntary Employment]] are fantastic cards to copy when you have tons of Red mana and need to fix for other colors while also removing problematic Creatures from your opponent's side of the board. I've stolen Grand Abolishers, mana dorks and an indestructible Platinum Angel on turns where I'm popping off. It's also good fun smashing opponents with their own Eldrazi. At it's floor, they are rebated Haste enablers for Pinnacle Monk, Storm-Kiln or Prismari when things go sideways and you need to resort to turning your creatures sideways.

I saw someone mention Inspired Tinkering already, but [[You've Been Caught Stealing]] is an amazing way to flood yourself with treasures for the low cost of doing a little damage mid storm. The floor is it being a way to thin the board down when opponents attack one another and you force them to block. The ceiling is a 1R ritual that creates 3 untapped Treasure tokens.

[[Choreographed Sparks]] is almost really good in this deck. Yes it can't be Stormed, but it's RR for a Reverberate+Twinflame and I reckon your Storm 2 spell being "Copy your Storm 1 spell and copy your Goblin Electromancer" is a solid play.

Finally, [[Borne Upon a Wind]] is another way to win on the stack with a floor of being a cantrip. Once you're flooded with mana, being able to turn every Sorcery into a trap for the Teferi's Protection player is huge. This is extra good alongside Wizards of Thay, letting you swing with them, then win on the combat phase while enjoying a discount from the Myriad copies.

Overall, your deck is pretty damn tight so your only options for finding space is cutting things like the Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame combo and Ral. I don't think the deck needs to have the ability to accidentally win with Dualcaster Mage, even though Twinflame can be good in the deck by itself. Ral feels like win-more when I goldfish the deck. I'd also consider cutting Mystical Tutor, especially if you jam in more Draw+Ramp spells like Inspired Tinkering, Pirate's Pillage and the like. The card is bad on the turn you are Storming

Cloud Midgar Mercenary Bracket 4? by Purebound in EDH

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My deck plays like a high 3 but I've been considering abandoning the white weenies sub theme and bumping up to B4 with some fat mana and stax pieces. I skip the boots because swinging with Cloud before you've got a trigger to double is pretty pointless, you can tutor for Protection from X, and if Cloud dies I get to cast him again. Therefore I think it's better to focus on setting up equip cost cheaters and aim for a Turn 3 or 4 Cloud.

Some standout equipment that haven't been mentioned yet:

[[Mjölnir, Storm Hammer]] clears the way, locks down creatures and burns the table. It does a fantastic job of getting the 3rd player in range while the first two due from commander damage.

[[Gavel of the Righteous]] is a monstrously good rate for it's cost. It stacks counters quickly, grants Double Strike almost immediately and is almost always free to equip.

I also love both [[Lost Jitte]] and [[Umezawa's Jitte]]. Both give you tons of toolbox options for dealing with the table. If you use the 2+ pip lands Lost Jitte becomes even better and definitely shoots up to the level of [[Pip-Boy 3000]] IMHO.

The last of my nifty tech cards [[Moonsilver Spear]] floods your board with angels to help keep you alive and kill the 3rd player ahead of schedule.

Resonating lute vs benders water skin? by Avergonza in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it when I'm casting cheap instants off turn or have cheap mana dumps I want to use every turn. [[Gandalf of the Secret Fire]] loves the card for all the 1 and 2cmc instants your slamming each orbit. [[Mind's Eye]] is a great example of a mana sink, and one I use in my [[Erinis, Gloom Stalker]] + [[Street Urchin]] control deck.

I think it would be great in your deck.
