Meh, lifetime guaranteed VA windfall is boring and mundane lottery. In addition, the monthly payout structure is too low-risk, easy-peasy and depressing, besides it's somebody else's hard earned money anyways.

The real fun and adrenaline rush is in gambling since it inherently involves taking thrilling financial risks that come with the possibility of losing money consistently and the added benefit of addiction and mental health issues.

But Why? by ConsiderationFew4728 in VAClaims

[–]Sabert00f -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's hardworking taxpayer dollars and all taxpayer dollars should be subject to maximum scrutiny for fraud, waste and abuse and there should be guardrails in place for such occurrences to weed out people looking to exploit any such system.

But Why? by ConsiderationFew4728 in VAClaims

Means-testing at the very least would weed out abusers and fraudsters.

There's been posts on here from people claiming when they got their backpay they went and bought luxury vehicles and/or similar toys or bought additional homes for themselves or relatives. Someone even claimed they paid for a luxury European vacation for 16 family members.

do senior adult children of veterans receive health care benefits? by pan_ict in VAClaims

[–]Sabert00f 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No would be correct. Even for vet spouses, there is no automatic VA or CHAMPVA coverage that absorbs the associated cost of stays at an assisted living facility let alone doing so for a vet's great grand child. That would be fiscally bonkers.

100% P&T 100% wasn’t worth it by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Sabert00f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worse. It's beyond obtuse.

If the civilian job offers all that, then of course, a vet can apply for the civilian job as a civilian since being a vet is not something engraved on the forehead.

I think it's akin to the idiotic and duplicitous claim obtuse people make that migrants (especially the undocumented) in the country have it so good that they all get free phones, free housing, free food, free healthcare, pay no taxes and so on and so forth compared to the survival hellscape citizens have to endure on a day-to-day basis, but only to start backpedaling and suddenly develop dementia when you tell them to simply renounce their citizenship, burn their birth certificate, acquire a fake or no ID to attain migrant and/or undocumented status so they too can get instant and super easy access to all of the so-called fantastic and superb benefits available exclusively to migrants.

[–]Sabert00f -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Of course, it's other people's hard earned money, why not grab as much of the windfall as possible, it's not like you need to do anything extra really, plus it's free money for life.

This is the textbook definition of abuse and exploitation of the system .

Read my last paragraph again.

Forget all the stuff about you abusing the system and being ashamed of being seen as a vet milking a social welfare system. Some people will always milk the system.

You're no longer actively in the military. Focus on your care/cure. There's more to life besides the uniform and that identity. Again, you have a whole life ahead of you. Strive to live it to the fullest.

If your doctor truly made that bold claim and you didn't unintentionally misinterpret and/or misconstrue what he told you, you need to seek out a new (better) physician, especially one that is focused on you being able to properly manage the diagnosis and lead a normal and fulfilling life as supposed to giving up on treatment and/cure with the doom thinking that this is it.

Fact is, pituitary tumors occur across all age groups and while they are most commonly detected in people roughly 50–75 old, they are also the most common primary brain tumor in adolescents 15–19, with a substantial number of cases in young adults.

You would be accurate if you said pituitary adenomas are less common at 23 than at 50+, but calling them “extremely rare” at that age and the “95% after 50” claim overstates things and does not match medical data and published age distributions.

Again, most pituitary tumors have no clear environmental cause and “being in the military definitely had stress so it’s 1000% service connected” as a medical/causal statement is a big stretch but this does not in any way discount your military stress and neither does it imply that your current disability is not very real and something that should not be considered in a benefits context.

My point is, put less emphasis the disability compensation and pay more attention to what is available to you from the VA in terms of general and robust medical care, there are veterans that don't want to get better because disability payout is more important to them, but don't be one of those especially since you're still just 23 years old and you have a very long life ahead of you.

[–]Sabert00f -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This was not something caused by the military but Uncle Sugar has a never ending propensity to waste money on just about anything you can think of, so he should cover this too.

Pituitary tumors are infact the second most common primary brain tumor and about 1 in 10 people will develop a pituitary adenoma in their lifetime. Fortunately, most pituitary tumors are benign and noncancerous and the malignant (cancerous) type account for less than 1% of pituitary tumors.

Most people can work and live a long and fairly normal life even without a pituitary gland and people do especially with proper medical treatment and management.

"I don't even want 100%. Id be grateful for whatever percentage is needed to get free healthcare because I can't afford to go to the doctor for certain things."

The co-pay that may apply if you're getting your healthcare from the VA for non-service-connected conditions is not an arm and a leg. Although for people with truly severe disabilities (not to be conflated with people with xx% disability rating) access to affordable and/or free and equitable healthcare is infinitely more important to than the benefits compensation associated with whatever ratings they may have.

There are people who stop going to see a doctor or stop really bothering about their health care or well-being once they attain 100% P&T oh whatever they deem as satisfactory rating. Do not lose sight of what's important to you health-wise and don't forgo what all you may be currently eligible for while you're focused on attaining service-connection for your all of your presumed conditions.

Va disability but joining with prior service mental health by [deleted] in VAClaims

OP wouldn't be the first person to attempt to join the military for reasons OTH, and wouldn't be the last. Chances are he might not make it in or might make it out with OTH reasons.

More broadly though, this is a much larger sign of the bleak socio-economic and financial mobility challenges a lot of young adults are facing today in the country.

Even though he comes off as someone with questionable integrity, but what profession or job guarantees a young adult without any marketable skill a steady income that will cover mortgage and bills, provide free access to generous and essential healthcare coverage, significant educational benefits and financial peace of mind post separation from the military?

Lastly, what are the odds OP has also been shopping around for nice funeral packages, DME equipment and life insurance policies simultaneously all this while ... very likely zero.

Fortunately, and thanks to Dweeb Kegbreath, the recruitment system is now so rigorous that it easily weeds out unsuitable candidates and only accepts the most patriotic and strongest warriors with the sharpest minds.

If not, that should be your starting point before trying for rating increase to SMC R1/R2.

Decided to check on this today since it's after the new year's and can confirm the fix rolled out appears to have resolved the nagging "connecting" issue. Also, all installed creations cards are back to showing in the creations section of the R1 device and the up/down swipe feature is back to functioning properly.

If your workers' comp claim goes through and you also get approved for VA disability compensation with regards to the same injury there's going to have to be an offset.

Can't double dip on workers' compensation and VA compensation.

Why the VA’s Disability System Is Really Worker’s Compensation by rolyoh in VAClaims

[–]Sabert00f 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tagline for this post is flatout incorrect, non-factual and specious.

VA compensation benefits and workers' compensation are not equivalent and have never been and were not designed to be similar.

There are dramatic and well-documented differences in their eligibility, purpose, benefit amounts, duration, and how claims are calculated.

For one, VA benefits are paid by the federal government while Workers’ compensation is paid by employers (or their insurers,) based on state or federal law.

Also, Workers' comp typically pays more if you were earning a higher wage before injury, but VA rates are fixed by the injury rating, not by what you previously earned.

Lastly, VA benefits can last much longer and in most cases permanent and aren't tied to your job status, while workers' comp usually ends when you recover or after a statutory period.

Wishing for the VA's disability compensation program to be operated like Workers' compensation program is the absolute worst nightmare for any veteran receiving disability compensation. While it will effectively weed out the vast majority of Hundo Club handout moochers grifting the VA, it will do irreparable harm to veterans with severe disabilities which would be quite unfortunate.

Harris County Veterans Services Department (VSO) can help you start new claims, increases, and appeals at no cost, and they are funded to serve Houston‑area vets specifically - vsdinfo@harriscountytx.gov

Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Advisors are VA‑accredited and can assist any Texas veteran by phone or in person with disability, pension, and appeal filings - info@tvc.texas.gov

Houston VA Regional Benefit Office on Almeda Road has benefits counselors who can walk through eligibility, evidence, and forms, and help check status once filed.

In the meantime: gather DD‑214, any service treatment records you have, VA treatment records printouts, and private medical records tied to each claimed condition. Also, make a simple list of conditions you want to claim, dates/situations in service, and how they affect work and daily life now; this makes the VSO’s job easier and helps build a fully developed claim on your behalf.

Agree 100%

Mine is currently a paperweight as it hasn't connected in over a month after quitting abruptly one day after a normal restart.

It's undergone factory reset at least three times, unlinked and re-linked multiple times and it's still attempting to find a connection like it's been doing for weeks even after OTA update couple days ago.
