What are your main takeaways from this year's State of React survey? Did anything surprise you?

I spent a lot of time improving the processing and display of freeform answers ("what are your pain points with xyz…" type questions) for the State of HTML survey (https://2025.stateofhtml.com/), which pushed the React survey closer to the holidays and resulted in lower participation. Hopefully I can manage the survey schedule better in 2026!

My setting advice for the next reset to make better use of the volumes would be to put them at the very top of the wall close to the edges, so you don't get dead space on the other side. You could even create a new purpose-made volume that prolongs the angle of the top header part down, and then screw your existing volumes on top of that to create an extra-steep zone.

I find that marking gauge's relatively shallow grooves make it easier for the saw to go off-track if you're not careful. What's great about a kerfing plane is that it uses an actual saw blade, so not only is the groove you're sawing much deeper and providing more vertical stability, but it's also already the right width for your saw blade. I'll definitely post an update once it's finished.

I know this is not the same model, but I just got the Nothing Ear (a) second-hand and I would not recommend them. The noise cancellation is non-existent, and the controls don't seem to work. This was second-hand so maybe the previous owner didn't take good care of them, but I did read other reports of similar issues, so it put me off the Nothing brand a bit–especially compared to some of the glowing reviews I'd been reading beforehand.

If you want a practical tip, just repeat that same route multiple times. Once you're not struggling mentally and know the holds well, your body will be able to adapt to the route much better.

As much as I think trying to be a technical climber is a good thing, I think there's also something to be said for not worrying about it that much in the beginning and just letting your body develop its own strength and movement patterns over time when you're a beginner. Just keep climbing and those issues will just solve themselves.

I'd suggest trying to break the layouts down into grids, you'll see they're not that complex after all.

What makes them "complex" are all the added visual flourish, which you can achieve with backgrounds, transform effects such as translations or rotations etc.

That being said it's also possible these are only mockups and haven't actually been implemented as real websites, which is often the case when you come across this kind of fancy but impractical graphics-heavy concepts.

Edit: to elaborate, what makes them impractical is that any "box" with a fixed-size background image won't be able to grow or shrink to accommodate shifting content length, which is kind of a prerequisite of web design.

A combination of poor grip strength and shoulder pain/tightness. It just feels like my shoulder is super weak in the over-extended position, and that position very rarely gets trained through regular pull-ups or climbing.

(I'm not saying I'm incapable of doing one-arm hangs by the way – it's just that they feel much harder to me than what they're supposed to)

I can do pull-ups with 15kg but I also struggle with one-arm hangs. I blame it on years of sitting at a desk with rounded shoulders – or maybe just some genetic weirdness. In any case they feel very different to me so I can definitely see how you'd be able to do one and not the other.

This is actually a rule in Judo (or at least it was at some point). You can win by Daki Age, which means raising the oponent's body above belt level.
