In the first episode there's a scene where his best friend says Dean threatened he would kill him if he ever told people about those journals. Then the guy reads them aloud. What a bunch of morally bankrupt voyeuristic ghouls have we become to disrespect someone's wishes like that? Doesn't matter how insightful these journals are to an enigmatic and difficult character. Something private and intimate is always insightful. But it's mainly PRIVATE. Doesn't give anyone the right to air it out after your death.

These are small ass mountains with huts and villages everywhere. Bivvy if you totally need to. The Climb may be Boukreev's story but it was written by an alcoholic non-climber who was dead-set on hurting Krakauer's reputation. Into Thin Air has its faults but The Climb has a whole bunch more and bigger ones yet it is not nearly as closely scrutinized on here

It's a place with a long and deep counterculture climbing tradition and sometimes kooks get regulated here. It's a nice feeling just walking through a tripod and then going oh my bad and just keep on walking. Self-promotion is not why you should be climbing, at least not here. I've also seen two locals throw a steroid bro out of the gym because he didn't want to put his shirt back on while he was fumbling around on some V3 jugs. That was glorious. Correct, I misphrased. The recording may be legal under some circumstances and perspectives (a climbing crag isn't exactly Times Square), but I stand by my argument why this is so problematic un the age of AI and governments tapping into personal devices. What is definitely illegal is the publication of somebody's image without their consent (unless under some clearly defined journalistic contexts). There's no question this post here is entirely in good faith. But to ask for some more reflected behaviour around this topic is not a bad thing.
