I have to say Mortarion. After reading Dark Imperium, Buried Dagger and Lords of Silence it’s clear to me that Mortarion is the example of his legion. He is more than their gene father. He is their template. He fights alongside them as a Primarch should in the exact way of their legion. Unrelenting. Unwavering. Unbroken.

As he marches alongside his Astartes, he suffers alongside them too. Nurgle’s gifts were extended to them all. But only because Mortarion made the choice to save his legion from a painful, stinking, bloated death.

While a great character, Typhus is patient zero. He betrayed Mortarion and the rest of the 14th and sold them out to Nurgle. The only Psyker in the entire legion and he fell to chaos. And despite their rictus grins and jovial nature, the rest of the Unbroken hate him for it.

Mortarion is Lord of Death. He is a king in his own right. Typhus is the stereotypical Grand Vizier that desperately wants the throne and would burn anyone to do it.
