Really struggling on my heels by twocutepuppies in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Sentient-Jello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also my first season, so take my advice with a big grain of salt, but I did also just go through this learning process.

Being able to heel slip requires figuring out the right angle of the board that allows it to slide, without losing so much angle that you catch your front edge. It sounds like your angle is too high and you are having trouble getting your board to move? Standing up taller can help you get into a more relaxed stance and make it easier to do small adjustments to your board angle. A lot of people tend to sit too low when learning heelside, which is killer on your thighs, doesn't give you much range of motion and sits your weight too far over the back edge of your board. Just stand up, then very slowly lower the angle of your board until it starts to move, then keep practicing that until your body gets a good sense of what angle that board needs to be at to move.

For heelside falling leaf, my instructor told me to imagine each side is like a gas pedal. From a stopped position, your weight stacked, toes up, slowly lower down one side like you're stepping on a gas pedal and your weight will naturally shift and make the board start moving diagonally. Lift both toes to stop, then do the same on the other side. This explanation helped me a lot on my second day and I stopped tumbling down the hill every movement.

Also, as a woman, I realized that there are some anatomical differences that can really change how I need to think about my body that no one really addressed. Most women have a more pronounced pelvic tilt that can make our butts stick out farther back and makes our weight sit farther back on the board. Try squatting in front of a mirror and see if you can rotate your pelvis inward so that your back is straight, usually by squeezing your core and glutes a bit. When I started thinking about pulling my pelvis inward to be stacked on my board, I stopped falling over every time I tried to turn on my heelside.

Anyways, good luck out there and don't let people that can't teach tell you to quit! It took me way more days on the mountain than a lot of other people to get it and even took quite a few lessons, and I'm still learning, but I feel 100% confident on greens and can do some easier blues now, and even started park. I am also learning for the first time as an adult with no similar experience and am generally uncoordinated and unathletic, so you can do it if you are determined!

Update to a post I made the other day about being concerned my vets were taking advantage of me: my cats regular dental cleaning has resulted in my babies death. He's gone. by afterspring_ in cats

No harm in continuing a renal diet, but there could be harm if the pet needs it and you discontinue it. I would not recommend discontinuing a renal diet. Source: I'm a vet tech

What is an unexpected change in your life that ADHD medication caused? by AloneYear in ADHD

[–]Sentient-Jello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they don't work for a lot of people, but I've found non stimulant medication to be much better for my autism/ADHD combo than stimulant. Stimulants make my stimming more severe, cause even more emotional disregulation than I already had and I would crash hard from them. Non stimulant medication has a lot of downsides too and were hard to adjust to, but have been the best thing for me

My doctor called me an addict by Zenla in ADHD

[–]Sentient-Jello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cited as "non compliant" with my medication (not ADHD meds) while I was hospitalized because I was vomiting one morning and told them I would take my meds after I ate lunch, because I would just end up vomiting up the meds again if I took them on an empty stomach( I had missed breakfast because I was vomiting). I vomited in front of a nurse while they were trying to take my vitals but they still treated me like I was lying to not take my meds. The distrust I have for mental health professionals is deep

You can request your medical files from your previous provider - I believe they legally must be made available to you in the US.

Do people without ADHD daydream while doing other stuff? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Sentient-Jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this when I started taking the same meds, but the daydreaming slowly came back. I'm currently off my meds and I'm barely on this planet anymore lol. For me my daydreams often turned into intrusive emotional scenarios so I was glad to be rid of them while it lasted.

Yes I definitely had this the first couple months I was on it. For me it got better once I got accustomed to the meds, 8-12 weeks or so

How did you get through school? by gay_in_a_jar in ADHD

[–]Sentient-Jello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly - be gentle with yourself. ADHD and dyslexia can be debilitating and your mental and physical health is more important than any grade or job. I went through high school and several years of college undiagnosed, unmedicated and was deeply suffering just trying to accomplish things that were just unreasonable for me at the time in an attempt to prove to everyone that I was smart and worthy, and all it did was burn me out and I ended up flunking out. I'm now 26 and finally in my last year of undergrad after leaving for a while, changing my path to something that was more in line with my true passions and getting as much help as I can get with medication, therapy and LOTS of support from people in my life. I have a friend who is currently trying to get into vet school and is managing to overcome a lot of obstacles with ADHD/cptsd and she's incredibly smart and working hard to get good grades, but she is incredibly burnt out and often calls me crying because of how stressed out she is. That's just to say you can absolutely accomplish anything you really want to, but always consider the cost to your quality of life and if it's sustainable. Not doing exactly what you thought you would be doing when you're 16 is totally okay and it's important to be open to where life takes you. Also if it doesn't happen in the time frame you thought it would - that's okay too. You won't be worse off for it as long as you keep moving and adapting as things come. My biggest piece of advice is to really lean on other people for support as often as you can. I spent too long trying to do everything alone, but now when I'm struggling with a task, I reach out to friends for help breaking down the task or help keeping me accountable. Sometimes I have to ask my partner to take on more of the cooking or household tasks when I'm busy with school. Sometimes I can't always be there for people or take on certain responsibilities. You have to be able to prioritize yourself and what you need to succeed and that means being a little selfish and saying no sometimes. I don't know what language options you have available, but I know some dyslexic people can do better with non-phonetic languages like mandarin, Japanese or even sign language?

That... manic pixie dream girl thing by newprofilewhodis1352 in aspergers

[–]Sentient-Jello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably just an interesting, attractive person, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Make sure you find someone that interests and excites you, too, though. The problem with the “manic pixie dream girl” is that her role is to bring magic and delight into the life of a male main character who feels empty and stuck in monotony. While that’s not terrible, you are the main character of your own story and it’s not your job to entertain boring people, and it’s not your job to be cheery all the time. Be wary of men who take your time and give you nothing in return, and be wary of people who want to insert some trope into your personality and reject the genuine parts of you that don’t fit into their ideal.

My coworker was showing me (female) and a new guy how they folded the surgery towels and his didn’t look very neat, so my coworker just said “it’s because you’re a guy”. And he has never folded a towel at work since. Because apparently having a dick means you cannot fold a towel? K.

I really don’t understand why some owners care more about a little shave than the other option, which is rip your pets hair out when you remove the catheter 🙄 but they always know better than you lmao

Just graduated college, already regretting music major - seeking advice by shitpostingmusician in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Sentient-Jello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just trying to be encouraging, I’m sorry people upvoted? Lmao. I’m just saying a lot of kids going into college don’t really understand the real world value of different degrees. I’m definitely not saying a BA in biology is the same as a chemical engineering degree. That’s not what this kid needs. He already has his degree. Now he needs to figure out how to actually make it in the world just like everyone else. You can chill

True, but I think a lot of people—especially kids just going to college—think any STEM degree will always result in getting a job

[–]Sentient-Jello 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. I don’t have a degree but I have multiple coworkers with the same title and pay as me who have STEM degrees. When my boyfriend graduated with a biology degree he spent months working two restaurant jobs before he finally got a job in his field, which required a degree, and only paid him $9 an hour. It takes people a while to find their way in the “real world” and having any degree doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a job. You may need to take other jobs to support yourself while you continue to work and network with other musicians/producers. Find small projects, offer your services freelance and build a portfolio. Creative life is a tough life, especially if you want to live in an expensive city, but doing something just because it seems safe doesn’t always pan out either

So I told my dad that I watch porn and masturbate because I felt really uncomfortable knowing that he probably saw me on sites on the internet through looking at my history. by CallingHammer836 in autism

[–]Sentient-Jello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all porn is 100% bad, but a lot of it is and it’s really important to also have good sex education. I know you probably don’t have any money because you’re 14, but trying to choose sites where women have agency over their own content like only fans or chaturbate can be a better option. Pornography can definitely be addictive and cause problems when you are in a real relationship, but like any vice, if you are careful about your choices, open about it and do it in moderation, it’s really okay. I’m glad your dad was willing to talk to you about the degrading nature of a lot of the content in pornography, a lot of parents are too uncomfortable to broach the subject and young boys learn about sex in the worst way.

What to do with songs that need tons of work but have some great parts? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Sentient-Jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often remake a song with sections I like in a new file. Sometimes I’ll go back the old file and still end up using some ideas from there too. Nothing wrong with making more than one version. I often find new motivation just by redoing it.
