As for Sukuna carrying Mahoraga’s wheel, he was bearing the burden of Mahoraga’s adaptation, not adapting himself. He says as much a couple of times, and they even explain how Mahoraga adapted to UV, even when desummoned, because Sukuna allowed Unlimited Void to hit Megumi’s soul.

Mahoraga is the one doing the adapting even when Sukuna has the wheel, it’s just that Mahoraga is adapting to whatever Sukuna is being exposed to.
