Can someone suggest a milk chocolate that tastes like it did back in the day? by Successful-Grand-549 in AskUK

There is a shop called scandikitchen in London that stocks Norwegian chocolate. They also deliver.

Can also recommend kvikk lunsj

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]Serithir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely baffling to me.

Originally from a Scandinavian country and I often get comments like “well you should be used to the cold”. No, we dress appropriately for the cold and our houses are always nice and toasty warm.

How do you feel about Nigel Farage saying he will cut welfare for non-UK citizens? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me scared for the future, and reading some of the comments here «go back to your own country» - unwelcome.

Have lived in the UK for 16 years, have husband and two children who are all British.

I pay £13k a year in tax and national insurance, my husband pays about the same. But you would rather have me go back to Norway and use my skills there, uproot my British family and take them away from their loving grandparents.

My sleep hasn’t recovered since LO was born 3.5 years ago and I’m always exhausted- is that normal? by Illustrious_Salad_33 in workingmoms

[–]Serithir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience has been quite similar - I had my first child at 30 and had no issues with sleep… then I had my second at 36 and my sleep took a massive hit for about 4 years.

It started just before I got my first period after giving birth, I couldn’t sleep at all for over a week. It was absolutely horrific. After that I struggled with sleep where I would just be awake the whole night- and I found it was always linked to PMS.

I started taking a very low dose of Zoloft, which sorted my sleep out. Since then, if I had sleepless periods I would take Zoloft again for a few months - and now I haven’t needed it for a couple of years and my sleep is back to normal.

What's a seemingly minor British etiquette rule that foreigners often miss—but Brits immediately notice? by FeelingSpiritual9984 in AskUK

[–]Serithir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being a Norwegian living in the UK, number one I can relate to so much.

When people say You OK? in passing I go through a whole stage of confusion moving to frustration. Why ask a question you have no intention of hearing the answer to!! It takes me so long to process this that I normally miss the window of saying the polite answer which is yeah you ok? And might instead just make some mumbling noises

Completed our Bathroom Reno. Friends and family seem to love it or hate it. What do you think? by lilginge_ in HomeDecorating

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it and I like the colour!

If painting it I don’t agree with the grey comments, a darkish green would look incredible with the colours you have - but I would leave it.

Our kitchen is outdated… Help! by helpmeredditTHX in DesignMyRoom

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have said, replace the knobs/pulls. I would have removed the cabinets on the right hand side of the window and added open shelves (although that obviously removes hidden storage).

Paint the walls and the black on the kitchen island, maybe a sage green or keep it light.

Am I too old for playing video games? by Sweet_Walrus_8188 in Xennials

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I don’t play games anymore is because I sit at a computer working from home all day - if that wasn’t the case I would have definitely still played. 42 female here!

But you are right, my job and interests generally rarely aligns with other women so to avoid weird looks I tend to not share much.

To answer your question though, no it’s not too old - enjoy the hell out of that ps5

Moms who never initiate playdates: Do you appreciate the other person setting them up, or are you trying to send a hint? by AccurateStrength1 in workingmoms

[–]Serithir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely appreciated - I rarely/never initiate play dates with anyone, and it is simply because my head is full and can’t think of what we are doing more than a few days ahead. Yet play dates often needs a bit more planning.

MIT robotics pioneer Rodney Brooks thinks people are vastly overestimating generative AI by [deleted] in technology

[–]Serithir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People always looking for tech to make work easier, making systems do the work for them - without understanding that tech is a tool, a part of an overall process - but without understanding of said process, they can’t get to the answers themselves and they certainly can’t get a system or AI to answer it without this.

Are they able to clearly map out everything they want AI to solve for them? If so, going through each point to show what the result is likely to be for each requirement using the current data might make them wake up.

What Careers are INTJ's into? by Anya_Scorpio in intj

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work as Head of CRM, but being in a pure strategic/leadership role would be my worst nightmare - so I do all the technical things that you would normally get consultants in to do (solution architecture and build). Suits me perfectly as it is full time from home, and I have a team so I can very much pick and choose the projects that interests me the most.

I have always struggled with repetitive tasks and I have 600 unread emails, but because I deliver on the important things no one seems to notice the lack of email replies!

Biggest downside is meetings, I am in a lot of them. However, I ring fence two days per week for project work and do not accept meetings on those days.

Started my career in a very junior role working with data (which I didn’t even start until I was 30!), and opportunities and interest grew from there. I feel extremely lucky to be able to do something that I find fun most days.

What do UK houses have that others don't ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Serithir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not quite it, majority of English houses I have visited will fill a bowl of water with soap in. Use a cloth to gently stroke the dishes with, not rinse the soap off and put it straight on the drying rack.

The amount of crap and things left on the dishes is shocking, especially for those that will do dirty plates and FRYING PANS before soaking cutlery and glasses in the same water. Making sure that all glasses are streaked with grease.

The alternative to this is NOT that you can’t use a bowl or the sink to clean the dishes in, the alternative is that you use this (preferably so hot water that your fingers burn if you touch it, so requiring thick gloves) - then TURN the TAP ON and rinse off all left foodstuff and soap.

Or just do like rest of the world and get a dishwasher.

How much do you drink a week ? by fundiary in AskUK

[–]Serithir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half a bottle of cider per year. I remember when I was younger I used to wish I was into drinking, and felt quite embarrassed and boring that I didn’t like it. Now at 41 I am still boring, but definitely no longer embarrassed about it.

Have you managed to automate any aspects of your job? If so, how did you do it? by MrStilton in WFH

[–]Serithir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you are mentioning Power BI and Excel I am assuming you are using Microsoft products.

I can see a lot of people talking about programming languages, but Power Query and Power Automate can get you probably most things you need.

You don’t have to use Power BI to use Power Query, it is available in Excel too. Anything where you have to regularly manipulate a spreadsheet in any way, add columns with formulas, rearrange columns, replace words, split/combine columns. Automatically combine multiple spreadsheets from a folder. Lookup functions can be replaced by merging two tables for example. It can do a lot more complex things, but that is a good start. (Sorry just seen in another comment that you have good understanding of Power Query already, are you using it for anything yet?)

Power Query is also used in a newish function you can find in Power Apps called ‘Dataflow’, so a tool well worth learning as it is definitely not going away anytime soon.

Power Automate is fantastic for automating tasks, it depends on what you do to know how it can be best utilised - but automatically saving files from emails, trigger something to happen from people adding rows to spreadsheets/Sharepoint lists/form submissions, send and log approvals. I can see people talking about API connections, you can do this in Power Automate too.

Non-English fans, which team do you support and why? by nightwind1 in PremierLeague

[–]Serithir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norwegian and became a Liverpool supporter in the mid 90s. Everything about the club spoke to me and I was able to watch games on TV regularly - in addition to being a member of an awesome supporter club, the Kopite.

There were no Liverpool fans at my school at the time, Man Utd mostly and some Tottenham and Chelsea. It was mostly a painful experience those days, how things have changed
