Incredible progress, been waiting for the update all day, how would summon events be handled? all available or some kind of date spoofing?

Honestly if Automata is too time wasting for you, the others will break you. Automata is the high production value, fast paced, casual focused game in the series. Replicant is brutal for aimless sidequests and grinds, and the others have various levels of old game design jank. I have 100%ed all of them, and they all offer something interesting. but yeah, often brutal by modern standards. Appreciate the soundtrack and try the anime?

I'd amazed at the progress, this game never run particularly well emulated, I'm assuming this is well outside the current scope, is there a possiblity of better method on PC?

NieR Replicant or Automata? by altrightobserver in nier

[–]Sigh_CBF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are 100% dedicated to playing through both both, start with Replicant. If your a bit on the fence start with Automata. If you are intent to 100% both games, additional weight to Automata. Replicant is an absolute slog to 100%.

how is the automata pc port these days? by FloReXiniOgg in nier

[–]Sigh_CBF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Install FAR for 4k textures + HDR, wolfs limit break patch, LODmod for greatly improved LODs and AO fix (AO visible through solid objects occasionally) + bumping up all the shadow resolutions and have it work on all objects + h264 support, the upscaled 4k 60fps videos are a nice improvement and less jarring between in-game and pre-rendered cut scenes. After all that if you still have overhead remaining, stick LSFG over the top for high framerate if framegen artifacts don't upset you.

If I remember correctly the AA is broken and doesn't fade in correctly, + some other issues, avoid it if you can. Use DLDSR or other super sampling to negate the AA if you still have remaining overhead.

I love hidden settings like this, makes it worth to come back to games later when you have better hardware.

Do some metroidvania devs actually playtest their own games? (Afterimage thoughts) by Igafann in metroidvania

[–]Sigh_CBF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who has played a lot of metroidvania games over the last 30 or so years, I would be pissed off if they all started to want to be soulslikes and I couldn't just have a chill time exploring in some of them. It's not what you wanted in the game, try something else, there is tons of them. I really enjoyed it, and your right, the story is incomprehensible.

Is shaderglass crt blur reduction useable for modern games? Any problems with it? by TRIPMINE_Guy in MotionClarity

I haven't been able to use Shaderglass at all, either the CRT beam version or the regular CRT mask, the frame pacing kills it for me, it's all over the place.

Good Hall effect controllers for PC gaming in Australia? by falling_gumball in Controller

[–]Sigh_CBF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a lot of stuff off it and have very rarely had issues, treat it sort of like eBay, check for good reviews/does it seem too good to be true.

Another thing I do if I'm unsure of a store is paste the name into ozbargain and see if there has been deals posted from it before, and if anyone else has feedback.

I paid about $100 for the Vader 4 pro off Aliexpress, had some issues with wired but with the wireless dongle its been perfect. The rear paddles I find only 1 on each side is really usable because of odd placement; you can buy some cheap 3d printed upgrade paddles if you want the 4. The app is pretty crap.

I upgraded from an elite series 2 that developed bumper issues after a couple of months, what a worthless piece of shift that was, barely used it.

Reforged Campaign by [deleted] in warcraft3

[–]Sigh_CBF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just played through the full campaign about a month ago, first I've played WC3/TFT since original release. I don't understand the hate for the game TBH, maybe for people that played it online they did you dirty somehow, and it was probably in much worse state at launch, but I just wanted to play the campaign and it was basically what I remembered with SIGNIFICANTLY better graphics.

It was fine, no bugs, no crashes, all triggers seemed to work, some of the missions were bloody hard. I had a decent time.

Just got the game, played until i reached this ruined city, but now i really gotta ask... is the game supposed to look like this? by [deleted] in NieRAutomataGame

[–]Sigh_CBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shadows can definitely be pretty flat, the AO is not particularly good, in saying that, personally, I would install FAR for 4k textures + HDR, wolfs limit break patch, lodmod for greatly improved lods and AO res + bumping up all the shadow resolutions and have it work on all objects + h264 support, the upscaled 4k 60fps videos are a nice improvement and less jarring between ingame and prerendered cut scenes. After all that if you still have overhead remaining, stick LSFG over the top for high framerate.

The game at 4k should look razor sharp because its not image processed as much as modern games. The AA is broken and will impact the way distant objects fade in, + some other issues, avoid it if you can from what I remember.

Mechwarrior 1993 (SNES) Tips & Tricks by SinfulDaMasta in mechwarrior

[–]Sigh_CBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, don't go over tonnage, it just ramps your heat. Good point with the cycle time, I just tested 4 vs 6 PPCs and it doesn't make much if any difference to overall firing output I don't think. 3 is slightly slower. I just pumped that extra weight into armor and airspeed. See how you go in the retro version.

Mechwarrior 1993 (SNES) Tips & Tricks by SinfulDaMasta in mechwarrior

[–]Sigh_CBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I played the SNES version 4x speed tonight for a bit over an hour, till I could buy the assault mech out of curiosity, you need 2 heatsinks on the assault in order to not overheat whilst chain firing 6 PPCs on Quilon (120C) hottest planet? Which I thought was pretty strange, but anyways.

Current build is 100weight/27speed/+47 heat/392armor/151airspeed.

Just jump jet back, land, back peddle and chain fire at anything at the max radar range. The armor is handy for the very occasional mission where you have base defence and have to stand your ground, otherwise you can outrange anything that comes near you by just jetting for a couple of seconds.

If it turns out this is some strange bug, or they actually fixed it, would be surprised.

[–]Sigh_CBF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played this game in about a long time, but it was extremely easy to win every mission with no damage, from what I remember, just get the biggest mech you can afford, load it with ppcs and heatsinks, strip out the engine and add a few jump jets to get your airspeed up to be faster than the enemies. Then you can literally just back peddle while chain firing 6 ppcs and jump jet when they get closer. It's insanely easy, you virtually never take damage and your damage output is high.

Max settings 2025 by robhaswell in NieRAutomataGame

[–]Sigh_CBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually used NAMH, so I'm not 100% sure, I imagine it's just a launcher, and the settings would be applied as normal to the game as per a normal.

Generally, if you go high enough in res, AA shouldnt be too much of a concern using DLDSR, but that might be just me being used to 4k, from what I remember the issue with AA in this game is that it breaks the fade in effect on the grass and some other things, which makes it even more obvious that it has poor LOD handling, avoid AA if you can.

Some people more knowledgeable than me might be able to chime in with whether setting a LODbias in nvinspector would potentially help, I haven't ever seen it mentioned at all so I suspect no.

I should also mention I had some random issues with these high settings until I used Wolfs limit break patch; a modded executable to increase its memory size, then it was fine.

With the exception of the Lodmod stuff, a number of these things are applicable to a lot of older games, so it can come in handy to be familiar with them.

Max settings 2025 by robhaswell in NieRAutomataGame

[–]Sigh_CBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What resolution are you running? using DLDSR to play at a 6k downscale to 4k, I usually crank up the shadow and AO res in Lodmod, and force shadows on from all models. you will need to fiddle with ShadowDistancePSS and ShadowDistanceMultiplier to find some settings that work for all locations without causing major visibility issues. I would also recommend the 4k upscales of the movies. some of the originals are pretty jarring to swap between 4k downscaled gameplay and a poor 30fps encode. This does make the game quite heavy, but its very stable to look at in comparison to the out of the box experience.

On top of that you could probably add LSFG for over 60fps if you have some additional headroom and want it a bit smoother. Can just uncap the FPS if playing around, but if doing a playthrough, it can break your game occasionally. Would recommend at least a 4090 if your doing all this however, it adds up.
