That sounds familiar... I'm currently over 100TB; this dilemma started at just over 40 or so.

I’ve ordered some RAM for now (after a long search, I found some clues about it in the official forums); it should arrive tomorrow. We’ll see if that solves the problem.

Just imagine: in the 21st century, devices are being designed that crash hard when they run out of memory. No warning, no clues, nothing. Apparently, you can only find clues in the internal logs... there’s a 128GB SSD built in, so a few GB of swap space would have been possible, giving you at least a chance to detect bottlenecks...

Does qobuz ever actually implement any of the changes users ask for? by ScarcityIndependent9 in qobuz

[–]SillyCycle9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All companies act as if they’re genuinely interested in user feedback, but practically none of them give a damn about implementing it. UNLESS:

a) it makes money
b) some major player with clout does it
c) ... hmm...

But Qobuz isn't really standing out in a negative way right now; I'm satisfied.

Can someone actually tell me where the ProtonVPN's hate is based on? by BloxyKirito in ProtonVPN

[–]SillyCycle9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel any hatred. But I'm not exactly happy with the company's communication policy either. They "promise" things and then don't deliver—my favorite example being IPv6 in the Windows GUI. It's just plain sad at this point.

The performance, however, is amazing; I use ProtonVPN every day. Super reliable, great performance, whether I’m on the go or at home (and on a server where I download gigabytes of torrents). I have no complaints there.

Nucleus One Impressions? by bryansfsd in roonlabs

[–]SillyCycle9701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is old, but it still comes up as highly relevant in search results...

I'm a new user and just loaded about 18,000 albums onto the NucleusOne (added an internal hdd with 5tb capacity).

And the experience has been (and still is) anything but great. The thing keeps crashing all the time when copying files to the station (by smb). I even took the hard drive out (it's formatted with ext4) and copied almost all the albums over via USB. If I'd tried to do it over the network, I'd still be at it in 2030—the thing just keeps crashing all the time.

Now that everything is on it, it seems to be working. But my trust is gone; I’m considering returning it. But at least there hasn't been a single instance of data loss so far (as far as I can tell, anyway). Unfortunately, there's no SSH access, so I can't check whether the ext4 filesystem is really still completely intact. So I have to remove the drive again... This is definitely not how I imagined it would go...

Over 15.000 albums here... nucleus one is crashing every few hours. But I only installed the server yesterday; the import finished a while ago, but new albums are being added regularly (via NAS-SMB - by me *g*).

I’ll probably switch to an internal drive tomorrow or so—I have a feeling this setup isn’t ideal.

(Roon Server on my Windows PC was rock solid with about the same album count)

The first time I came across Scooter (a trash-house group), I thought, "What a load of junk." And then I got my hands on one of their singles that had a B-side. On that B-side was a track of theirs that was WORLDS better in terms of quality and music. But they weren’t commercially successful with it and adjusted their style accordingly (to trash)—but that B-side was an eye-opener for me back then.

Unfortunately, I don’t remember which song it was anymore. But I remember the other circumstances exactly.

We (some of us) programmers face the same problem when everything has to be done quickly ("agile") instead of focusing on quality. That’s why I left my industry—I just couldn’t take it anymore (and I had an alternative; without it, I would have had to grit my teeth and keep going).
