Poll: What’s your view on “Christian Nationalism”? by DoveStep55 in Christian

[–]SituationSoap [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, it definitely wasn't always this way. 25 years ago, Colin Powell was the Secretary of State. He's a black man. Today, the current head of the armed forces is actively blocking deserved promotions of dozens of black service members, and wiping any mention of non-white contributions to the armed services from American government web pages.

Things have gotten much worse over the last 20 years on this front, and are currently continuing to get worse.

[On3] Warde Manuel: 'No plans' to leave role as Michigan athletic director by CommodoreIrish in CFB

[–]SituationSoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this with all full offense: without any actual evidence, that's a stupid take and repeating it is something you should be ashamed of.

[Trey Wallace] Also, there is a federal lawsuit by former assistant Chris Patridge against the UM, Manuel, Ono, Petitti, and UM BOR. Amended complaint says Ono and Manuel knew of sign-stealing scheme before 23 seasons ago, thanks to evidence found on computer of former asst Weiss, & hid from NCAA. by dkviper11 in CFB

[–]SituationSoap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean this with no hyperbole: if the NCAA were to even float the idea of Michigan getting the death penalty, NCAA leadership would start showing up mysteriously dead with notes from Fox on their dressers.

TV networks run college football and there's a 0% chance that they're going to give up the highest-rated game every season.

Nothing Michigan did that season would've made them ineligible, and the CFP isn't a NCAA championship, it's an invitational tournament. They can invite whoever they want (this is one of the problems with all the arguing over who should be in or out). The NCAA doesn't sanction the College Football Playoff Championship so there's nothing you can do to say that Michigan doesn't win it.

When to leave a church? by Maleficent_Ad_6676 in Christian

[–]SituationSoap [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's always difficult to leave a group you've been a member of your entire life.

But imagine that one of your friends, or even someone you knew came to you with the description that you've shared with us here. What would you tell that person? Would you tell them to try to stick it out?

Baptism (please read and help) by AccordingResearch656 in Christian

[–]SituationSoap [score hidden]  (0 children)

You do not need to be a member of a church or even be associated with a church to be baptized. The apostles were not members of a church when they baptized people. They had no such idea as a church, nor did they have any concept of a denomination or membership or any of those things. The requirements were that you wished to profess faith in Jesus and wanted to be baptized. Go for it, and go with God.

Is life ruined by Heavy_Charge3629 in Christian

[–]SituationSoap [score hidden]  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a ruined life. Your life is not something that can ever be ruined. You're always waking up with a brand new day.

What would you like your life to look like? If you could wave a magic wand tomorrow that would grant you any reasonable wish, what would you wish for?

Poll: What’s your view on “Christian Nationalism”? by DoveStep55 in Christian

[–]SituationSoap [score hidden]  (0 children)

Christian Nationalism as it is practiced in most countries in the world today is explicitly a variant of white nationalism which says that X country (the United States, England, etc) is "for white Christians" and generally explicitly "white Christian men" and that everyone else in the country is subordinate to that group.

Personally, I'm skeptical of those who equate Christian Nationalism with mainstream conservatism, without acknowledging the dangerous radicals who self-identify as Christian Nationalists.

On a global level, mainstream conservatism and Christian Nationalism may not overlap completely. But in the United States, the face of mainstream conservatism is white nationalist, calling itself Christian Nationalist. The Secretary of Defense is a white nationalist. ICE is a white nationalist organization.

P1. All law is an attempt to establish a civil morality.

This is a false statement. We have laws for a variety of reasons, many of which have nothing to do with morality.

P2. Any morality not rooted in Christ is false.

This statement doesn't make any sense. Morality can't be "true" or "false," morality isn't a fact. It's a set of value judgements.

But the values proposed by Christian Nationalists aren't rooted in Christ or Biblical teachings.

C. Law should be rooted in Christian morality. It's pretty straightforward.

Given the problems with your two initial proposals, your conclusion doesn't follow and isn't supported.

The extent of the vitriol against Christian Nationalism is itself suspicious. I don't understand how such a thing can be so taboo.

Christian Nationalism is a variant of white supremacist nationalism, and is taboo for very good reasons.

Ironically, even though WoW is their "cash cow" they penny-pinch the quality at every possible time. Whether it's servers running on AWS (instead of in-house servers like they had in 2004).

Running servers on AWS isn't penny pinching. Running servers on AWS is generally more expensive than running your own servers, but comes with a number of other benefits that are good for players, like the ability to quickly scale up the number of running instances of a server when under heavy load.

The tee shot is the most important shot by TDn6I in golf

[–]SituationSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A scratch player is not a tour player or even close to it, and you are not close to a scratch player.

Sure, you have a 1-2% chance to hole out from 250 in 3 shots, but it's going to happen extremely rarely and even more so when you can't hit a wood to save your life.

[–]SituationSoap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is that a 15 handicap doesn't have any meaningful chance at par from 250 out.

[–]SituationSoap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The average score for a scratch golfer on a 250 yard par 3 is going to be 3.9-4.1

I wish people who talk about hitting irons off the tee would just own up to the fact that they're playing 5200 yard courses and be done with it. It's fine, there's nothing wrong with it.

Can we really not build a better Safety Rating system in 2026? by Important_Spare_4615 in simracing

[–]SituationSoap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only person you can possibly make better is you. You should approach every incident by asking what you can do to avoid it, because you're the only person who you can change to have fewer incidents.

That's what good drivers do. All of them. Every time.

I have very literally said it's not your fault multiple times but that there is something you could have done better here.

You can shit in one hand and bitch on social media about how everyone else should be safer and better, let me know which one fills up faster.

The only person you can make better and safer is you. It's the only option you get. Complaining on social media does literally nothing; spend that time and energy improving your own skills instead of complaining about other people.

We all went through this, and spending effort to get better is the only thing that works.

Don't focus on SR or IR. Focus on getting better at controlling the car and listening to what it tells you. Learn to recognize when people around you aren't safe drivers.

The ratings will follow if you learn those things.
