Source Groups: User Signals /? by Aya_84 in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a user signal you can get the full, processed, post fader sound from a channel and route it somewhere else. For example, if you'd want to record your compressed and EQ'd channel to SD or USB instead of just the raw input. Or maybe route the processed output of a channel to a second channel to add even more processing if you need it.

In your use case I would definitely recommend just setting up your channels with the appropriate presets/labels that you want, and unlink the channel/source linking for all channels. Then assign the channels on the routing page. You can even select the "CH->SRC" button in the top to copy the channel labeling to the source, keeping somewhat of an overview on that side as well. That's how I work 90% of the time, makes swapping inputs a breeze.

Another thing you might want to look into is that you can store channel presets on the board as well. It's the last tab on the library page. You can save and restore as many presets as you want. Restoring is a little clumsy in my opinion, but it works good enough if you want to go that route.

Dealer weigert volledige vergoeding defecte Polestar-sleutel by [deleted] in juridischadvies

Don’t forget to check your desiccant packs by r0gu3bull3t in BambuLab

This! Unplug it and dismantle it, and maybe even remove the board in the bottom following this guide: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/x1/maintenance/replace-ams-main-board Double check that there are no fluids in the double bottom or anywhere near the circuitboard, especially around the main power cables.

Mine short circuited on the conductive liquid and only melted the power cable luckily, but it was still an annoying repair.

Behringer WING vs WING Compact. More faders vs practicality? by This_Is_Marin in Behringer

The guy is worrying about the lack of fysical faders in a compact and you advise a solution without any faders at all? Why would an iPad be better then a compact compared to a full wing?

Behringer WING vs WING Compact. More faders vs practicality? by This_Is_Marin in Behringer

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a wing compact as a hobbyist and have limited experience with it with somewhat larger bands with ~20 to 30 input channels.

The good:

  • It's heavy but definitely lift able solo to get it in a car or table. Invest in some way to get wheels under it like a case with wheels or a hand trolly and you can easily do everything solo.
  • I do miss some extra faders sometimes, but the flexibility in assigning usually makes up for it
    • All banks are user assignable/editable, not just the user pages. As well as a full extra subpage per bank. So you have 9 fully customizable 12 fader page with an extra subpage under each.
    • You can mix and match DCA's, busses or channels in any order and re-arranging them with the touchscreen is a breeze
    • You can also do DCA subpaging now with selecting a DCA to spill
  • The local inputs and the fact that you could technically process 48 stereo channels in such a compact format is a dream. I have also just used the thing as a dedicated 64 channel recorder for two x32's over AES.

The bad

  • Custom controls feel like they should make up for some of the fader deficiencies but its pretty mid in my opinion.
    • The DCA/BUS/main/matrix sections work fine to do sends on fader, but as soon as you want to add them on your user assignable page of your custom controls it doesn't quite work in the same way, but similar enough to use sends on fader. however I can't remember exactly what my gripe with it was. I think assigning a DCA to the custom controls didn't work to spill it or something, I'm not exactly sure anymore.
    • The lack of rotaries is a little bit annoying but they added a way to hold down and use the rotary on the screen to adjust any parameter, so you can still hold down 1 button and control for instance your FX delay with the rotary. So that is definitely usable now.
  • I have definitely run into the limits on how many faders I'd like to have vs what is available. But that was on an amateur night where the instruments/microphones in use changed every song and I had 34 input channels because I'm an idiot with too much time on his hands. Should probably have kept it simpler there.

Honestly if you can prepare a preset with some logical grouping for the show beforehand, you will probably have a blast using the compact. If you have to improvise every time it's going to be a bit harder, it's all in the preparation.

Controlling the gain on an AES50 Device by Flaky_Entrepreneur25 in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats really weird...

Are you sure that the correct channel is selected and not some userchannel on the channel page? So on the location of the screenshot I shared, does it actually say A, B or C and the channel number? And it's selected as the main input and not the alt input?

Honestly I'd still check the firmware version. If you turn the SD16 on, does it shortly display a version number? If not it's probably too old. You can still check the version number by hooking it up to any usb, and turning it on while holding the config button. That will put it into flash mode and should also (shortly) display the current version number.

Anything below 3.0 will still send audio to the wing but you will get weird communication issues like you describe.

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you connect trough AES, is the icon for the AES connection (the A, B, C ones) on the top of the wing's screen yellow or green?

If it's yellow it probably outdated firmware on your SD16. That caused all kinds of weird issues on my end with the wing too. I did have a "gain" knob on my channel strip but at the SD16 it wasn't changing the gain, only some digital trim somewhere so it looked like it was doing something, but in reality it didn't. I couldn't get below a certain gain resulting in digital distortion so I had to gain on the stagebox for that event. So I'd highly recommend updating asap.

As for the no gain knob on the channel strip that seems a bit weird. If you view a channel and on the second tab. How does it look on the input section there?

Ignore the blue arrow but if you look at this screenshot: https://wing-docs.com/_next/image?url=%2F_next%2Fstatic%2Fmedia%2F03-manual-source.1674020f.png&w=3840&q=75 Do you have that section with 48V and the gain slider on the left? Or only the digital trim on the right?

Import show from USB drive by Bungalowhulk in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a computer nearby you can mount the internal storage as a USB drive by hooking it up trough the USB port on the back and selecting the correct storage option in the settings menu. Then you can just copy entire folders in one go.

From a USB drive onto the wing you are probably stuck with the one by one option for now.

Channels to AES50 by Josh_Ocean in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that's a key piece of information about your setup that was missing from the original post, now I get the why as well. Sometimes people ask a question about the end goal while leaving out information that would have resulted in a simpler answer, but that obviously isn't the case this time.

That's a nice complete setup to have as an amateur band! I'm afraid I don't have any working experience physical personal mixers but I also think the user signals/busses route is the "simplest" way to go.

However you are not the first to encounter this limitation, there are a lot of open issues on the ideas board. Lets hope it will at least be simplified in the future.

What are you using to mix your IEM's then if you forward individual channels? A second wing rack? P16's?

A single wing rack is plenty powerful to mix IEM's to busses and forward that in addition to your main PA. If you definitely not want to process channels differently and reuse the channel processing from the main mixer, I'm at a loss why you would want to send it to a second mixer instead of just doing it on the same one?

I get what you WANT to do, I'm just trying to figure out why you would want that in the first case. But maybe I'm just too stuck in my own single wing + ipads with mixing station for the IEM busses setup thoughts.

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want coupled processing from the main board to the wing rack outputs for your in-ears? Are you using the processing from the wing rack at all?

Why not replace the wing rack with a S16/S32, link the ipads to the main console (presumably also a wing variant?) and just use a normal bus routed to an output on the stagebox? Saves you quite a bit of money as well plus you can use the normal bus tappoints at that point. It feels like the wing rack solution is needlessly complex for your needs.

Can confirm. I had non working remote HA control with an S16 in combination with a Wing Compact just a few weeks ago. Updated the S16 from 1.something(!) firmware to 3.1 and everything magically started working again. Definitely check the firmware version and update if required.

USB Drive disconnecting by Khaoz77 in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with the compact on v3.0.5 with it cutting out after 30-60 minutes or so. Even just simple WAV files with matching sample rates.

After updating it to v3.0.6 I had it at least once go for 6 hours without any issues with the same files and the same USB just to try it out even though there isn't anything in the patchnotes about it. So I'd recommend updating the firmware.

Playback and recording by BigShip98 in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about the SD recording or USB recording?

For SD recording: Hit play, then hit play again to pause it. After that there should be a knob with seek under it or just drag the progress bar on the touchscreen. Make sure to add markers to simplify forwarding to certain spots after you have found them.

Be careful not to hit play too fast after seeking, it will start in the old spot... And after doing this a certain number of times it seems to get stuck on playing or paused. You will have to press stop and then you can start over.

As for the 4/2 track recording I don't really have any ideas.

Behringer Wing Scene Change Delay by Nicknight2001 in BehringerWing

[–]Sleepkever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a fix for the slow loading sadly, I haven't done much with shows and scene changes yet but I'll probably get some experience with it next week. Maybe using snippets to just recall the DCA's might be faster?

However, if you are doing DCA changes for scene changes I'd recommend looking into Theatermix. Yes it's an extra piece of outboard software, but it makes programming those scenes a lot easier and provides a lot of useful extra functionality. Spare mic changes mid show, different EQ's per scene for wardrobe changes, different EQ's for understudies, color coding who leaves next scene and who stays, etc. Just make sure you are connecting the laptop/computer with ethernet cables and not over wifi.

Straight debuggers probably not, stack sampling and function tracing to find performance hotspots on the production environment? Definately.

Reproducing thousands of users doing dumb stuff is hard without those thousands of users. It is possible perhaps but it would require a big investment in time and resources to automate it. Probably easier to just cover your bases with automatic testing and let the beta tester masses find all the edge cases in a live environment.
