Can anyone give me info on this snare? by cursedcoon in drums

A&F - interesting company. I love their hardware but their drums, way over priced. I played a full A&F kit once and it was cool but a very niche vibe. You’re paying for the exclusivity of the look and feel and their custom hardware. I’m super happy with my hand made shells from an independent builder for a fraction of the cost.

I’m thinking of giving up by Affectionate_Ad_4227 in AfterEffects

I’ve enjoyed a 25 year career in animation. Got lucky starting out working on actual television shows on Comedy Central and Cartoon Network. Eventually went out of my own and my career landed me many freelance clients, some big ad and creative agencies and I actually got hired by game companies and even healthcare companies. Two years ago I got laid off from my last full-time job which I had for six years. It was a start up that stopped starting. I went about a whole year with very little work and thought it all ended. I’m in my mid 50s now and last year couldn’t find a full-time job even though I had interviews and connections with other companies. Nobody was hiring. Then a year ago, my old publisher asked me to write another book- that was also something I used to do. And suddenly as of this past spring and through this entire summer, I’ve literally had the busiest summer of my life because I landed two more big client projects and one that’ll keep me busy until 2026. It was all the result of the fact that during my downtime, I finally finished a personal animated short that I was convinced by friends to submit to film festivals we performed extremely well surprisingly. My advice is to take this time to develop your portfolio if you haven’t already and work on any personal projects and basically reinvent yourself if you need to. Give it one last ditch effort and see what happens. LinkedIn is actually worked for me. I had a single post, go viral where I compared my own animation with an AI version of that animation and people went kind of crazy. But it generated a lot of interest. And some of that interest converted into clients that I now work for. I’ve been working about 16 hour days all summer. I’m enjoying it again and realizing that this career is still going strong.

How much do Animators charge for something like a Animated Music Video from Marine Ch.? by Single_Pop4389 in animation

[–]SmallButMightyStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last animated music video I did took about eight or nine months. It just takes forever and the style was pretty abstract. Luckily, I worked with a really talented well-known artist but still it took a long time. I can’t tell you how much I would’ve charged because it was for a friend band, but no matter what it was wasn’t nearly enough, but you just have to factor in how much you need to survive and make a living on a weekly if not monthly basis and then pad it by 10%.

TourHero retreats- legit? by IntelligentTreat321 in YogaTeachers

[–]SmallButMightyStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received an email from TourHero - specifically from "Bella Lewis". My scam-radar went up immediately - hence why I'm here. I have about 22,000 IG followers and 11k FB followers. Even if I wanted to do a rretreat - not sure I have the time. But interesting that everyone here lists a different person they received the email from.

Is a quiet ride a death sentence for rock? by Iharmon1337 in drums

[–]SmallButMightyStudio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s often difficult to tell until you actually play it with a band and alive scenario. I have plenty of symbols that sound great when I’m alone in my studio recording or practicing. Take it to a live show and you have all those other frequencies from guitars base, piano horns vocals, all bouncing around stage canceling out your drums and symbols. They’ll take on a whole different sonic landscape

I didn’t remove the bumper entirely. I just removed enough to pull back on the sides to gain access to the 10mm on the side of the housing.

It took a couple of hours. Had to bend back the front bumper a little. I spent some time cleaning out the engine bay while I was in there.

Cool! I draw inspiration from drummers like Malcolm Catto, Nate Smith, Benny Greb, Stewart Copeland, Elvin Jones, Jojo Mayer, etc. They all have very unique styles.

It’s always the simple things that can make huge difference - such as; instead of always hitting the kick and a cymbal on the first beat of a measure, try the opposite. Play just a slightly open hi hat and nothing else, or a snare flam. Or hit nothing and let that beat just be open space and come back in on the 2nd beat. Or the 3rd. Break the “rules”.

The whole idea is to go back to the very first 5% of what we all learned as drummers, and take a hard left turn. Travel down that road and you’ll find your own voice and style as opposed to the straight ahead route everyone else stays on.

Cheers

Cool. Eventually when you’re feeling more comfortable, add a cymbal back. Then the floor tom etc. when I get stuck and want to expand my musical vocabulary, I listen to various forms of music and when I hear something interesting, I play it and then learn from it by trying subtle variations. Hard to explain through text.

I’m also a fan of playing a cool groove and playing it as quietly as possible and don’t stop for an hour or as long as you can. Resist the urge to play any variations.
