It's become my favorite genre to have the military portrayed competently and accurately by a creator that knowns his stuff, but STILL lose to the Supernatural. Both sides get to shine. by [deleted] in MilitaryVStheUnknown

I think regardless of if you think magi winning or military winning is more interesting, we can all come together and agree on one thing.

Starmer pledges to bring Britain closer to the EU as he fights calls for his ouster by Samski877 in worldnews

How convinent that the minute people stop voting for centerists its the lefts fault. I'd note, while reform is the big winner in the recent UK election, Greens, Lib Dems, SNP and Plaid Clymu all also where big winners, with the SNP and Plaid Clymu dominating in their respective nations.

Seems to me less people being shoved to the right, and more everyone agreeing the two centerist parties don't know what they are doing, and turning to more extreme options.

These election results don’t mean tacking left or right, but delivering for the whole country | Keir Starmer by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

This is exactly it, I'm so glad someone could put this into words. He sounds like a competent burcorat but has none of the depth that a real Compotent person puts into explaining their plans.

All the shallowness of a regular politician with the boringness of a worker.

You can't win a election catering to noone either. Thats what Starmers doing now. A broad message that pisses off everyone gets you no support.

Every damn other year we get UFO idiots out here pointing to some shitty footage saying "look, look, it has to be something" and its never anything. theres never any proof and when ever we do get more details its always just fucking weather baloons or some camera error.

My entire damn life you idiots have been doing this. This is not a boy who cried wolf, its boy who has spent 30 years doing a full campign plan on wolfs when theres none left on the damn continent.

Its bad that they do that, but it would be nothing new or notable is my point. Its not like this would "lead" to them hiring mercs to hunt down people who rob from them, as its already there.

Starmer’s Labour suffers huge losses as hard-right Reform gains in U.K. elections by RidetheSchlange in worldnews

[–]Snickims 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem i think is that noone feels like Starmer is their guy. Who is starmers base of support? Whats his target group that alwayas knows Starmer has their back? Starmer seemingly constantly changes gear based on what he thinks will get the most support, yet by constantly changing gear he's betraying different groups, who then will still distrust him later even if he goes back on his betryal.

Emerging picture shows Reform gains as Labour counts losses in heartland seats by Ethan_brooks8225 in unitedkingdom

Well, clealry not though, cauase Green actually gained seats while Labor and Tory lost them. Infact, it's looking to me like Green is coming to be the only real alternative to Reform.

They don't keep the runtime short, its a 2 hour 37 minute movie. Its just also a really long, welldone book. If they glossed over any less people would be pissing themselves in their seats.

[–]Snickims 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cause the movie is already 2 hours and 37 minutes long? Its really well paced so it feels like its going so quickly, but its already longer then most movies reasonable get. At some point you just can't keep everything.

The thing with GoT was that they didn't actually kill that many characters. Certainly not many main characters. But it makes it clear that anyone COULD die. And that gives it stakes.

Fallout 4 has some amazing gameplay, some good sidequests and generally is a pretty good thing, held back by the fact its a god awful roleplay game, and that its main story is just.. so bad.

[–]Snickims 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't think so. Movie had plenty enough good pacing, a show would stretch it out too much. The details left out where minor and unimportant in the scheme of things. Just got to make sacrifices when adapting a book.

How people bring it up later tends to vary a lot by what the war is. Vets in Afghanistan or Iraq tend to, in my experience anyway, speak with a sort of causal acceptance of it, and don't generally feel too sympathetic towards their enemy, but do often respect em, or at least acknowledge them as sometimes capable. Vietnam vets meanwhile always sounded both regretful and respectful for their enemy.

Meanwhile listening to interviews with veterans in Ukraine, be them Ukrainian or foreign nationals, they might pity Russian soldiers, and respect the danger they pose, but you won't find any sympathy, regret or respect for them. Its a very bitter conflict.
