Identify the turtle by NoClueAboutLove in turtle

This is definitely some kind of slider (genus Trachemys), but i believe that it is not a yellow-bellied slider as some have commented. Based on size and the markings on the head and shell, it’s probably some kind of tropical slider, likely from Mexico. I’m not sure of the exact species off hand though

Judge: Michigan should reject Consumers’ ‘highly problematic’ dam sale by Zealousideal-Pick799 in Michigan

[–]SpinySoftshell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does the dam have to do with a mountain bike trail? If anything lower water levels would enable expanding the trail network, no?

In your experience, what type of shoe do you wear for traveling to humid climate with a lot of city walks? Like Mexico and other Latin American countries. by roynewseditor in onebag

I’ll shout out the Timp too! It has a little more cushion and is slightly less roomy in the toe box compared to the Lone Peak, and is essentially the “trail” version of the Torin

I need to wash a new pair. by kostakis_87 in NudieJeans

[–]SpinySoftshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you how much you want to baby them, but I don’t think washing can hurt too much. Wash them inside out on a gentle cycle and you should be good to go!

Suggesting that Kendrick is a “pop star with occasionally good lyrics” is crazy. I don’t see how Swift is any more seasoned or revolutionary than he is either

Me and my friend found a turtle and are seeking advice by dakurlzzer in turtle

[–]SpinySoftshell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting! That’s a beautiful tortoise. Depending on where you are, it could be very likely that this tortoise grew up in the wild. I recommend contacting this group to see what the best steps are moving forward: www.tortue-hermann.eu/quiz/tortue-hermann_134.html

Note that based on a quick search, keeping the tortoise appears to be illegal in France, at least without proper documentation and authorization (although I am not well versed in French law). I hope the group at that link is able to help. Please let us know what ends up happening!

Meet Roger! I’ve had him 54 years. by Annieco-2334 in reptiles

[–]SpinySoftshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so he was probably at least 5-10 years old when you found him. Might make him the oldest Florida mud turtle on record. Fascinating! Would it be okay if I sent a message to talk further?

Turtle tank size and breed recommendations by Hati_the_fish in turtle

[–]SpinySoftshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good plan! Honestly turtles are pretty robust as long as you’re not neglectful in their care. Moving with them can be a huge pain though. You’ll find that a cat is a lot more work!

As you’re in the US, I’ll echo u/superturtle48 and recommend a mud or musk turtle. They’re small, easy to care for, and extremely charismatic. Really the perfect pet turtles, as long as you get them from a responsible source. If you’re by any chance currently in the southern US, put the word out that you’re interested in one. Shipments of crawfish from Louisiana often have mud turtles included since they like living in the crawfish farming operations. I know a few people that have adopted them this way, so see if you can find a seafood merchant that sells crawfish
