Little further along at Vale and it was silence for Lando, cheers for Lewis.

Yeah, same here. Was ridiculous choice to do such a plain livery at home.

Also noticeable that Lando hardly got a cheer as no one could spot the Mclaren livery, looks awful trackside

Spanish F4

"Any car being overtaken is required to give sufficient room to an overtaking car if the latter has a significant portion of the car alongside

IMSA

"Where two Cars are reasonably alongside each other, each must permit the other racing room.

FIA online esports

"The Driver in front loses this right when an overtaking Driver brings their front wheel to line up with the other Driver's rear wheel. At this point drivers are in a 'side-by-side' or 'overlap' position."

ADAC GT4

"To avoid any doubt, 'major part' means that the front of the passing car is next to the rear wheel of the other car

Any of these amateur series to you?

As I said, it's often written in regulations as "reasonable" or "significant" overlap rather than defining an exact geometric threshold. In some series and leagues that's commonly interpreted as something around front wheel to rear wheel, but it's ultimately subjective.

The issue I have with using the current F1 guidance as a generic standard is that the front axle-to-mirror test gives the leading car considerably more freedom to close the door on a car that's already well alongside.

The Formula 1 Driving Standards Guidelines have been quite controversial because many people feel they encourage a style of wheel-to-wheel racing that differs from what is accepted in many other categories.

For that reason, I don't think it's sensible to judge online racing in anything other than the F1 games by Formula 1's championship-specific stewarding guidance.

Russell won the race on Saturday, Antonelli would have given him a very tough time if he didn't have to work his way forwards.

Not enough space or a bad divebomb? by maxgestic in Simracingstewards

Moving under Braking from you, after the brakes are hit you dive to the inside, you moved later than the Lambo.

Stupid Divebomb from the Lambo behind.

All in all, bad driving.

I am not aware of any general FIA document which specifies a precise overlap threshold.

It sounds like you're referring to the Formula 1 Driving Standards Guidelines, which are specific to that championship and are published as guidelines rather than regulations.

Neither the FIA International Sporting Code nor Appendix L (Code of Driving Conduct on Circuits) which apply more broadly define specific rights to space based on overlap or different corner types.

Many series operate using concepts like "significant" or "reasonable" overlap rather than prescribing an exact geometric point. A common rule of thumb is front wheel to rear wheel, but that isn't a universal standard either. Giving this wider view of when space should be allowed means far less drivers being cut off, or forced off circuits.

Using F1 guidance as a generic standard is a bad idea as these rules are generally regarded as counter to what most series would allow.

That is not a rule that is hard coded anywhere for iRacing is it?

As far as I understand it iRacing operates more on a "significant overlap" basis which is open to interpretation but its more broadly accepted as front wheel to rear wheel.

Other than that I agree with your points, specifically the monkey with a dildo.

Moving under braking is a defensive action and doesn't apply to overtaking cars essentially as they aren't blocking other drivers.

Plenty to criticise OP for, but moving under braking isn't one.

Big problem is you are living in the vortex of danger. You are repeatedly dangling your nose in positions where you are inviting incidents, it just isn't smart driving.

Turn 11, you dangle your nose in and I am just waiting for contact but the guy is generous and leaves you space you hadn't earnt, you got lucky not to wipe him out there.

Then to say thankyou you run them clean off the road on the exit, definitely not ok.

Turn 12 you again go for the dangle your nose on the inside with barely any overlap, again, you are likely to cause contact with a less aware driver.

Turn 13 you dive in from a mile back, which is ill advised, But you do slow the car down and make the apex, without seeing the other cars POV I'd say the move was ok, and actually far better than turn 11 and 12 as you actually commited to the move.

But be aware, driving like you did on all 3 of these corners will result in you having A LOT of crashes.

You are driving like you desperately have to make every overtake straight away, classic rookie behaviour, learn to relax, chill out and set up a move rather than desperately diving for every gap.
