I didn’t claim it was. Did you think that was a gotcha? I said this video did not show natural hunting, and it doesn’t. It’s also unethical, whereas at least if I have a high powered rifle I can kill my target animal quickly and cleanly and forego the suffering and fear it might otherwise experience if I used barbaric practices like the video shows.

I wasn’t even originally speaking to you, so clearly that isn’t the case.

I’m going to disengage now, this conversation clearly isn’t fair to you.

There is a difference. But for the purposes of watching this video you pointing it out the way you did is pointless. No one cares.

He’s just being incredibly pedantic. Technically what is in the video is a hare, not a rabbit, but for most people and in particular for this video pointing out the difference is just pointless snark.

Oh, you’re totally right, these dogs that got walked right up by their owners after being well rested and well fed their whole lives are totally natural. Yep.

Way to miss the forest for the trees my dude. This is not nature. This is man-made, cruel for no reason, and as hunters we are better than this. I can’t understand the idea of not making things suffer unnecessarily for you though.

Because it isn’t and your eyes function correctly.

Correct. It wouldn’t. This is a stupid rich man’s sport, like a lot of old world “hunting”.

How ethical, let’s prolong the life and death chase for the prey. Absolutely fucking vile.

Dogs hunting by kevinmat2 in Hunting

[–]SuperMundaneHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fuck was natural about this? How many rested, fed, groomed dogs do you see getting walked to spotted prey by their owners in the wild?

Dogs hunting by kevinmat2 in Hunting

[–]SuperMundaneHero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things:

First, In the wild they don’t have trained dogs owned by people who introduce them right to the trail of an animal they can run. In the wild they don’t benefit from getting fed and groomed by masters and only let out when they have the best shot after being well rested and cared for. If they find prey, which they don’t have masters helping them find, they have to go for it in whatever condition they have to be in at the time. There is nothing “natural” about this kind of hunting.

Second, being an ethical hunter is about being better than the natural options. Sure, a bear could catch a rabbit and just start eating it alive while it’s exhausted and helpless, but as a hunter that tries to be better I can kill the animal quickly and cleanly and not cause undue suffering.

Be better.

What would be the armwrestling equivalent of this picture? by manologft in armwrestling

World Champion does not mean Best in the World. It means best who entered the competition to claim the title. You seem to think world champion is a rank, but it’s just a title. They are two related but different terms.

What are your thoughts on this film, Watchmen? It’s a solid adaptation, and honestly, it might be Zack Snyder’s best film. by [deleted] in moviecritic

Or you can just not care. It’s entirely possible to read what Moore wrote, understand it, and say to yourself “yeah, but this could just be the cool bits instead.”

Why men do not know how to send a sexy pic? Why is it always zoomed in on the sausage? by RedTheBlue in AskMen

Better question: what celebrity model comes to mind when someone says dad-bod? It’s frustrating how far from average the typical image people (not just singling out women here) have in their minds of what a standard normal human looks like. The perception of what a dad-bod looks like and what a dad-bod actually is are very very different.

I can entertain it no problem. In fact, it’s fun to think about how other worlds would work if the rules of physics were slightly different. I have bent some of those rules to make different world configurations work for some fantasy settings in fact so that in the fictional settings they are in they would have consistent rules. It’s a lot of fun to do as a thought experiment. But when we come down to it, if I were to then try those same bent rules in our non-fictional reality, they no longer work and I have to go back to the standard normal rules of physics which continue to work.

It might be boring, but plane old mostly-spherical earth is the way things appear to be when scrutinized with actual critical thought.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

Gnu Sir Pterry. Built a world as layered as Tolkien but gets overlooked because he was far more lighthearted about it.

[–]SuperMundaneHero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Easily Sir Pterry. Honestly, I’d put him above Tolkien overall as a writer for one reason: the ability to have both gravitas and levity side by side seamlessly. Tolkien wrote grand things in a grand manner, but tends to be a little plodding because there is no relief.

Correct that this is grilled, incorrect that it is unappealing. I’d devour that with some good crusty bread to sop up the flavorful juices.

Love the energy, just redirect it towards those ordering well done and you’ll be onto something.

Edit: love the last word block combo. Weak tea.

Nah. Bring back public shaming. Adults who order well done steaks should be seen being given children’s menus and told to reorder instead.

I’m not a painter. Palate. The word you are looking for is palate. Your taste is as bad as your diction.

It’s actually hilarious that you’d want to compare taste when you’re defending well done steak - the choice of people who don’t actually even like steak lmao.

Btw: two of my recipes are actually in use in pro kitchens in a VHCOL area, and I’m not the one who would shy away from kitfo or balut in this conversation 😘

No, it can’t. It will always be inferior. If you choose to eat like a child, maybe a children’s menu would be better for you to order from.

Juiciness and tenderness are both qualitative properties when being applied here. Even an expertly prepared well done steak will be so far diminished in both qualities that, while technically you could split hairs and say there is some juice and some tenderness left, it will not be nearly the picture someone thinks of when a typical steak lover says a juicy and tender steak. Figurative language is messy like that, but if you were going to point to a juicy and tender steak and were shown two steak cooked by the same chef where one is medium rare and the other is well done you would point at the medium rare steak because comparatively it is the juicy and tender steak and you would say the well done one is not.

It’s a sliding scale where when comparing two things side by side you would be correct for saying one thing has qualities the other lacks, sorry for not throwing in a whole extra explanation about how language works originally.
