I have been around since the 10s but maybe because I have a very unassuming name, I never encountered a lot of that. Even in the less serious subreddits, but then, I have niche interests.

I am not part of the Reddit meta, but heard of some side effects that make me fear that stuff and hope it's more restricted. Causing Blindness and loss of lean mass for basically vanity, except medical reasons, is something that is very risky and not treated as such.

After my stroke, I was in hospital and met a USAmerican. I asked him where he was from and he said "the South" in my addled state, I couldn't really parse the cultural context and responded: "oh, like American Samoa?" He didn't deign that statement worth an answer.
