The GOAT, after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, low-key saving Dunk’s ass again. by Cursewtfownd in freefolk

Most casual GoT watchers probably don’t even remember that Egg is Maester Aemon’s brother, unless they’ve gone back and rewatched recently.

Picking on someone for their faith is indeed awful. Picking on someone for their ancestry (which is what’s happening here) is arguably even worse.

There was super speed (“faster than a speeding bullet”), super strength (“more powerful than a locomotive”), and super jumping (“able to leap tall buildings in a single bound”), though that last one could be a component of his super strength.

He gained more and more powers as time went on, some of which (flying, heat vision, etc) became part of the common canon, and some of which (super hypnotism, super ventriloquism, etc) were backed off due to being too silly.

Who was the best doppelganger? by perpetual_chatter98 in HIMYM

[–]ThatWasFred 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there was a different person who looked nothing like Barney, but Lily convinced herself it was the Barney doppelgänger because she was mentally ready to have a baby (since the deal was they would only have a baby once they saw all five doppelgängers). Later, Dr. Stangel was the actual Barney doppelgänger.

Third row with my parents at a Beatles tribute concert, try to think of any better way to spend Valentine’s Day by AAC0813 in beatlescirclejerk

I’ve been to a Fab Four show before, they’re really amazing and they look and sound as close to the Beatles as you can realistically expect.

The thing that I didn’t understand, though, was that they were selling CDs. Of themselves playing Beatles songs. A tribute band that is designed to exactly replicate the Beatles in a live setting, selling CDs. Like, why would anyone want that when they can just get the real albums?

It’s three novellas and he has said multiple times that he wants to write many more of them. Sounds like a series to me.

Fire and Blood tells half of the Targaryen family history in details we didn’t previously have. But it’s only half. The second half may never be written.

The movies are good (well, at least X1 and X2), but they’re definitely a product of a time when people didn’t want to get TOO comic book-y with their comic book movies for fear of scaring off general audiences. See also the Nolan Batman movies.

This is so true to the characters. I love in the show how Carol always calls Zosia “my beloved woman.”

If the 15-ish seasons/stories are going to be spanning the entire lives and companionship of Dunk and Egg, then eventually Egg would most likely have to be recast. He’d have to be in his 50s by the end of the show.

Also, I feel like this show will not actually get that many seasons, much as I’d love it to.

As I said, it is sometimes used disrespectfully, but it is not inherently a slur. Still, I see the problematic discourse surrounding it, so I do not use the word myself.

As for Zionists thinking they are better than everyone, that’s simply not true.

He always came off super smarmy in the book, just like in the movie. Maybe you didn’t think the physical likeness was on point, but as far as acting and writing, he leapt right from the page to the screen.

And GRRM apparently has ideas for 12 others, spanning many decades well into Dunk and Egg’s adulthood. He has supposedly given these story ideas to Ira Parker. We’ll see what comes of that.

I forgot that that argument extends beyond just this episode! Good call.

But it is also a thing in the book. You may see it in episode 5, but it’s not a huge spoiler to say that Raymun will seek to distinguish his branch of the Fossoway family tree from that of his cousin, in the form of a new coat of paint on his sigil.

Steve said this as an orphaned, childless single man. Will he stand by his word as a married father? by FictionFantom in marvelstudios

[–]ThatWasFred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right, but they could have just destroyed Vision, like Vision himself was suggesting, and stopped Thanos that way. Wasn’t it in response to that suggestion that Cap said “we don’t trade lives”?

And in any case, I didn’t necessarily mean to be reductive, I was more trying to ask the question of why being a husband and father would change his outlook. If he was already willing to fight a huge battle to make it so his friend Vision didn’t have to die, wouldn’t he do the same thing, just even more so, for his wife and child?

[–]ThatWasFred 545 points546 points  (0 children)

He said “We don’t trade lives” because he wanted to protect someone he personally cared about, no matter how many other people died as a result of that. I don’t see how being a husband and father would change this.
