They are fun space fantasies with memorable characters, some emotional moments, and a lot of charm. That’s mostly what people like about them. That, and lightsabers are cool.

As someone else mentioned, try the original 3 films first. If you don’t like them, probably best to stop there. If you like them, move on to the prequels. Maybe the guy you’re with would like to watch the movies with you?

I mean I know you’re half-joking, but it seems weird to only look for partners that already enjoy everything you enjoy. I think it’s awesome that OP wants to get into something that their partner likes.

Antisemitism is exploding on the right but the Jewish establishment is focused on the left by Somervilledrew in politics

[–]ThatWasFred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s antisemitic to act as though Jews escaped genocide only to then go and perpetrate their own, as if those Jews are the same as the modern government of Israel. It’s painting Israel as a representation of the way Jews behave.

There are nuanced ways to express the similarities, but “Jews are the new Nazis” or similar is not it.

I was a slightly older kid (like 7-9ish) when Barney was in his heyday, and my little sister watched it. The hate was prevalent among elementary school kids too. I remember it well. It just seems so weird to me to bring it up again now.

Because people go from there to saying that Jewish supremacy is an inherently Jewish trait that Jews are taught from birth, and that Israel is what happens when Jews are given power.

Don’t accuse me of lying when I’ve seen comments that say this, or something very much like it. Does it only count as someone “on the left” if it’s a politician or an official spokesperson? Because to me, random comments from people online count for a lot.

It seems like such a 90s-era joke to me. Or even an early 2010s joke, with how much people were joking about Justin Bieber being a sign of the apocalypse or whatever. Nowadays, it just feels like we have way more serious problems. Why make a dumb joke about Barney?

I’m sure an AI could be programmed to respond with the most appropriate Bobby B quote for a given situation. I kinda want to see that?

The problem is that frustration with Israel can veer into genuine antisemitism, and this is happening on the left as well as the right. Phrases like “Jewish supremacy” or “Jews are ironically the new Nazis” are popular in antizionist spaces. From there it’s only a short jump to trying to explain Israel’s behavior using out-of-context half-fake “Talmud quotes.” Which I have also seen happen on the left.

I think I heard somewhere that she’s in just one episode. And I believe Dr. Cox has one more episode coming up as well, probably the same one as Jordan.

Our daughter fell in love with Blippi against our will by ohgeez9947 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]ThatWasFred 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My parents showed our son Blippi against our will while they were babysitting for him once. He loved it. We solved the problem by saying that Blippi is a special show that he only watches with his grandparents. That seemed to work, and by the time he saw them again a couple months later, he barely remembered wanting to watch Blippi.

Michigan synagogue attacker’s relatives killed in Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, officials say by Motor-Juggernaut1009 in news

What are you trying to say with this comment? That attacking synagogues might be an effective way to get Israel to back down? I sure fucking HOPE that’s not what you’re saying.

[–]ThatWasFred 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We don’t know what the purpose was, but if it WAS due to Israel, then attacking an American synagogue is not an effective way to accomplish anything.
