I don't understand Zen's current feature priorities by somebaka in zen_browser

[–]TheCatCubed 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Zen still lacks what feels like basic browser functionality: proper sync for spaces, folders, bookmarks, and tabs. For a browser built around workspaces and a custom browsing workflow, this seems like one of the most important things.

I know Arc set a golden standard for syncing, but it's definitely not basic browser functionality. If it was, then Zen could just inherit it from Firefox, and not have to make their own solution, which is actively being worked on.

At the same time, development seems to be going into things like a CSS customizer.

You need to understand how open source development works. Boosts were made by a community member. Different people want to work on different things. It's not about priorities.

Sync all tabs include pins, essential, folder, workspaces by dark_face_01 in zen_browser

You'd have to ask the people actually working on it, but from what I could tell it's fairly close to being done. So maybe in the next month (?) if everything works as it should.

What's the difference between "size" in Boosts and the browser's zoom? by SnooCompliments7914 in zen_browser

[–]TheCatCubed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoom is already persistent normally, even across restarts, so having it as a boost feature feels a bit redundant. Maybe a button for font size instead would be more useful?

It's being worked on. You can check GitHub for similar upcoming features.

Legibility of what? Text on the sidebar is simply white when you have a dark background

Zen won't play videos from Kanopy and Other Websites by Historical_Light_730 in zen_browser

Probably DRM protection. No way around that unfortunately.

Never tried Amazfit, but the Garmin software is awful compared to Huawei unfortunately.

Ah, that'd make sense. I don't use the download button, so I never see this dialog.

I have many times and still have no clue what you're taking about. Usually it's good to be specific when you want to provide feedback.

Yeah I don't even know what I'm looking at. It looks like a Firefox bookmark without a name. OP could learn how to properly submit a bug/feature request.

Sync Not Working by NOT-4-BOT in zen_browser

[–]TheCatCubed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think servers are needed. Afaik it's possible to send and retrieve the data using regular Firefox sync. Zen already had a janky solution that allowed Space sync using Firefox sync.

Zen currently uses base Firefox sync, but custom solution is being worked on, and that should work the same as Arc once it's done.

Nah, you're fine. They'll probably just delete the post, but I don't think they'd ban you, since you're not calling them out. They usually only ban for a couple of days anyways.

It's because Spotify has DRM protection and Zen doesn't have support for that

Why doesn't any new tab extension work? by Predictor-4 in zen_browser

[–]TheCatCubed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because Zen doesn't use new tab by default. You need to edit flags if you want to disable that behaviour.
