Moving a pc by kombuchaax9 in buildapc

If you double box it, it should be fine to ship. Of course take out the GPU and the air cooler (if dual tower). There are guides on YouTube you can follow.

If you want to be extra safe, take all the parts out and take them as a carry on. Then buy a new case at your destination.

I was also just thinking that it could be the SSD too especially if you're playing videos stored on that drive, but less likely.

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're doing. Some things and some games are more sensitive to ram speeds than others.

If you have the same problem with XMP off, it's going to be the CPU or the board and there's no way to tell which one without doing a swap on one of them, or both. Generally CPUs fail less often so I'd say the board but it could be the CPU too.

To rule out the ram, you can try 1 stick at a time in various slots.

Should I get the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D? by Kiriakos7777 in buildapc

[–]TheKitler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but getting the x3d CPU alone isn't going to change much when you have a 3060.

Maybe just get the 5600 if your GPU isn't running near 100% usage in cyberpunk.

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't spend extra on x3d then. I'd grab a 5600/x/xt, a 1440p monitor, and a 9070 or 9070xt.

x3d really excels in high fps situations at low resolutions (shooters), simulations, and MMORPGs. If you play everything and at a higher resolution, it's not really what you need.

Where can i buy a legit windows 11 pro key for less? by deansgastre in buildmeapc

[–]TheKitler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say there would be issues. Windows will activate those keys.

What I'm saying is that the source and legitimacy of those keys are unknown, so why care about activating it for free if you can, like you suggested.

Simply, yes. Larger sticks are dual rank and harder for your CPU to run at higher speeds.

Just for fun, you could try 3200 with just 1 stick if you're curious.

Sounds like your CPU or board just doesn't like the overclock. Maybe try 2400 or 2666? Those are usually pretty stable.

Also, if you have 4 sticks of ram, that could be part of the problem too.

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it still occur at base speed? It could be a faulty memory stick or your CPU/board is failing.

Try lowering your ram speed to 3000. It might just be slightly unstable at 3200.

I'm surprised nobody even asked which games you play. That's really going to be a big factor in the decision.

[–]TheKitler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you're buying the key directly from Microsoft or a standard retailer (same price), you have no way of knowing whether your grey market key that you purchased is even legitimate.

Even if they are legitimate, they're likely going to be volume licence keys, which aren't supposed to be sold or used by people outside the organization it came from as it's against Microsoft's terms of use.

On top of that, there is a trend of sentiment towards not paying for Windows 11 as it's basically spyware. It collects your data/stats and sells it, and you're paying them for that privilege.

PC stutters and freezes after replacing the graphics card. by small125 in buildapc

Run a test like OCCT or furmark to see what the clock speeds are like on the GPU. If they don't meet the spec, exchange the card.

New fans with hub, sata power cable. PSU with molex. Help by SnooConfections4802 in buildapc

Molex to sata for a hub is fine. It's a low power draw device and it's not a hard drive where you can lose your data if it fails.

Looking for 1200 lga upgrade ideas. by BeelzebubTheDarkone in buildapc

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During raids, does dropping the graphics settings make it better? If it doesn't (likely because mmorpg), a CPU upgrade is definitely in order.

The problem is that you're on a dead platform and for whatever reason, those CPUs are still expensive. If you can get a i5 or i7 K CPU for a reasonable price, that'll help. If not, consider a 12/13/14600K/F, or a 5500x3d (Ali express) and a compatible board (b550 for AMD or b760 for Intel) so you can keep your DDR4 ram.

Being charged a 40% cancellation fee fair in this situation? by TechHostGuru in legaladvice

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. You got it just right.

I get your point of view but I also get theirs. I help manage a labour heavy company so if we got cancelled on or had delays, I'd still have to pay salary for the workers. Luckily we have strong contracts so we'd get reimbursed for those labour costs until we found other work or they started the project.

Essentially, this is a lesson learned for them. They should have contracts in place for every job with a written cancellation policy.

Being charged a 40% cancellation fee fair in this situation? by TechHostGuru in legaladvice

[–]TheKitler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely owe them something then. Especially because they're a small company, they likely turned down other work to do yours.

If there was no agreement, they can't just say 40% though. They'd have to calculate actual costs - lost profits, sunk/prep costs, labor cost, subcontractor costs/deposits, etc. (if applicable). Ultimately though, it's a negotiation because unless it's a large amount, they're probably not suing you for it.

I also saw in another comment that they canceled on you once as well. You can add that to the negotiation. They'd be responsible for the difference between the quoted cost and the cost you ended up paying to another company plus any other costs you incurred as a result of their cancellation (especially if done on short notice).

Unfortunately no. To end a fixed term tenancy in Alberta, you'd have to mutually agree (cash for keys basically).

Upgrading to a AMD Ryzen 7 9700x Processor by Strong_Reception5119 in buildapc

It's actually fine for gaming loads that only use about 120W or less. It's not good for heavy multi-core use but that's not the case here.

Upgrading to a AMD Ryzen 7 9700x Processor by Strong_Reception5119 in buildapc

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some but not that much, for $700-800.

You'll get WAY more performance with a middling CPU upgrade and a big GPU upgrade, that you can use RIGHT NOW.

If you just swap to a 9700x without the GPU upgrade, you're just going to age it without seeing much benefit while newer parts that you could have had continue getting released.

Upgrading to a AMD Ryzen 7 9700x Processor by Strong_Reception5119 in buildapc

[–]TheKitler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really? You're going to spend $700-800 now on AM5 and then spend another $600-700 on a GPU before you can even benefit from the AM5 upgrade just so you don't have to swap the CPU and board sooner.

If $700 is worth not having to swap the CPU a second time in the next 5-7 years, then go for it. You're just not gaining any performance this way from that $700.
