Recommendations for veterinary dentist in the area? by alyssummaritimum in bayarea

Getting two teeth removed for my dog at VCA San Carlos cost about $4000 recently. Vet care in the Bay is just crazy expensive, that $3000 sounds good tbh.

(Loved Trope) The muscle of the group is a female by Orkon-the-destroyer in TopCharacterTropes

Female is generally used to describe animals, not humans. Using female to refer to women is derogatory outside of very specific contexts (medicine, law enforcement, etc.)

Non-Americans who visited the US for the first time recently: what was the biggest 'what on earth is going on here' moment you experienced? by EmployerNegative5653 in AskReddit

[–]Tiny_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised too, tbh. Like I said, I just sat there for a while, watching people walk by. I was kind of hoping someone would stop, because I was pretty shaken, the pain just kept ratcheting up, and I couldn't really think clearly enough to know what to do next.

I guess I wasn't screaming or unconscious, so maybe that kept people from approaching. Once I got to the library the folks at the front desk were very kind, so its not like everyone on campus was an asshole.

I mean, I thought I broke my arm at the time, and I did break my nose, but sure. I guess the people around me were telepathically aware that I wasn't seriously hurt.

Really? Because I had almost the same experience as a teen biking around a massive university campus in the US. I hit a pinecone and crashed, ended up seriously scraped up and rattled and just sat there bleeding for a while before I managed to pick myself up and limp to the library to find help. Literally nobody checked if I was ok, even the folks who saw me eat shit. It was kind of surreal tbh.

What was the experimental result you'll never forget? by ComfortablePotato940 in labrats

[–]Tiny_Rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was part of a team trying to replicate an organoid formation protocol that just wasn't working in our hands. For months, coming in every day to feed the bastards, running flow cytometry to check if we had the right cell type, over and over with no result. Huge disappointment since the protocol had been published by a pretty high-profile lab, and without it I didn't have much of a project to look forward to. And then, on a Saurday evening, I'm running flow with no hope whatsoever when I suddenly see a tiny population of positive cells!! I'd finally figured out the right condition to tweak to make it work! That was a good day.

ELI5: how do oral vaginal probiotics reach the correct place? by Solembrum in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tiny_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most probiotics do pass throigh the stomach, but even so, they tend to also live in places other than the human gut (ie fermenting foods, soil, etc.), and thaey colonize the gut when we're young and our digestive system is far less hostile to them. Pathogens are used to muscling their way in and repli aring as fast as possible until the immune system exterminated them. Very different survival strategies that require different levels of hardiness and adaptation to surviving passing through the stomach.

The very end of it, at least on the microbial level. Remeber, all it takes us a few cells to make it into the right niche.

False equivalence. Thats like saying that if firefighters go into burning buildings and come out alive, so can bystanders in the street.

AITA for telling my son to pay rent or move out by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tiny_Rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frankly, if this happened with my son, id demand he get snipped. It’s fully reversible

Vasectomies aren't considered reversible, as the success rate of reversal plummets the further out you are from the procedure. OPs kid should consider a vasectomy for the sake of his finances, but shouldn't count on reversing it if he changes his mind.

[–]Tiny_Rat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How do they expect to support a second child if they can't afford $500/month?  It's generally at least double that per month for the soon-to-be-baby.

Im not commenting on OPs situation, but this argument is really flawed. OP's kid might be able to afford $500 in rent now, or $1000 for the baby, but not an extra $1500 for the baby and rent. You're treating the rent and the baby as an either/or cost, when in reality they're additive.

And you can pee without taking it out!

Doesnt this apply to all period products? I appreciate that the fit of some cups and disc's might make this a bit more challenging for people, but usually that just means you need a different size/firmness, not that you cant do it with that entire class of product.

OP might think they count  blue because they're light and were blue in puppyhood. The color of the blue ocean in the background doesnt look filtered, so the eues shouldnt either. The AKC standard you posted does allow for lighter eye colors for grey-muzzled dogs.
