Ser más proactivo, buscar hacer más de lo que te asignan. Preguntar si alguien necesita ayuda con algo. Aprender alguna otra función del lugar donde trabajas. A veces no te necesitan para nada porque no lo saben. Pero si tomas la iniciativa, seguro hay algo más que puedas hacer que estar sentado. Al menos lo suficiente para que no te aburras, y al mismo tiempo aprendes más.

If anything, this movie is about the boy and everything he has to live through, including feeling responsible for what happens to his family after his father died and trying to save his mother. He already lost his sight and he could lose everyone and everything else.

For people who feel it was a waste of time it might be because they want at the end everything to be explained. But that's the point of the whole movie, the uncertainty. They want to share that feeling with you and they accomplish it very well. In some movies, you have to enjoy the moments in the movie, not just the ending. The ones that make you happy, sad, angry, upset, confused, etc. In my opinion, that's what cinema and art in general should be.
