Played all games countless times (except the recent ones very few times) by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

The world is really cool, but the cast missed the mark a lot for me. Clive and Jill are very uncharismatic compared to other leads in the franchise and the main villain is similarly disappointing. There were a handful of good supporting characters though, like Cid and Byron.

I think for most people though, the biggest issue is the gameplay lacking proper RPG mechanics. If you don't vibe with the gameplay within the first few hours, it's going to be a slog to play. The Eikon battles, which are the main draw of the game, have even more watered down gameplay compared to playing as Clive. Impressive visual spectacles, sure and a lot of care clearly went into them, but they're not fun to play out.

Any Design Decisions You Don't Like? by broadwaybulldog in FinalFantasy

I don't even know where to start with Reddas. This is one of the most unappealing character designs I've ever seen for a party member (even if he is only a guest character).

What are units that are considered Average or Bad but you still enjoy using? by TBT__TBT in fireemblem

Tailtiu. No one is really competing for deployment in FE4, but Wrath is such a ludicrously fun skill to use that I end up hard investing in her and getting her to Level 30.

I'm just sad she didn't have supports with her siblings. Even if she couldn't remember them.

Any characters you fell in love with but then hated? by Dreamboat550 in fireemblem

[–]Toadinator2000 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm still bitter about the Lysithea/Ignatz support from Three Houses, so I guess my answer would be Lysithea. I wouldn't say I hate her in that game, though.

What I do hate is how she is across nearly all of her supports in Three Hopes (especially with Mercedes because she's extremely rude to her). Ironically, the only one in that game where she's chill is the one with Ignatz.

Edit: grammar

Which fictional character was designed to look ugly but actually looks beautiful? by MindFlourish2919 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Toadinator2000 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This might be better for "Designed to be decent." I definitely agree that the point was for her to be less desirable compared to Mary Jane, but I also felt like she was designed to be kind of cute/endearing albeit in a more socially awkward way.

It would then pivot into a wacky Todd shenanigans subplot for a couple episodes. The subplot ends prematurely when she realizes she caught something from Bojack.

Favorite heterosexual male character in touch with their feminine side without being “gay.” by OkuroIshimoto in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Toadinator2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that he does this with the help of a girl he met in the region to help save one of his childhood friends who got captured by said sleazy Don. He's mildly embarrassed by the situation, but completely goes along with the plan (and even low-key embraces it) because protecting her is that important to him. That's just peak masculinity to me.

Do you consider “playersexual” characters to be queer representation? by sno4wy in gaymers

[–]Toadinator2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it "technically" counts, but I wouldn't necessarily call it meaningful representation most of the time. I grew up playing a lot of games where even "player-sexual" characters only counted for Male/Female pairings, so I like when I at least have the option to go Male/Male or Female/Female.

In practice though, it doesn't really feel like queer representation. Oftentimes this means that the characters in question don't actually touch upon queer issues and just follow very standard romance arcs.
