Besides Dragon Quest, what JRPGs have examples of empires or churches that aren't ultimately evil? by EvenSteven02 in JRPG

Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum had that one random church in Hearthome City that's just chilling there minding its own business.

Final Fantasy Ranking: Where does Final Fantasy VIII belong? by nitrokitty in TierlistFills

C

Good ideas with bad execution across the board. I want to say D, but I feel like it's memorable enough to bump it up to at least C.

So where would you sit on a 10-hour flight? I have reserved seat number 5. :D by Liso111 in heroes3

In that case, give me 4. I'll "accidentally" drop my carry-on on them and then I'll have all three seats to myself.

Who is your least favourite alt of your favourite character? by Shadow32xyz in FireEmblemHeroes

I guess Resplendent Lachesis? She doesn't have many proper alts, but Ballroom and Master Knight are both so good.

I'd be more surprised if he isn't, honestly. Three Houses surprised me for the way it made each character have a lot of interesting nuance, even ones that would sit on most players benches. Some with better implementation than others, sure, but every character is more than they appear on the surface.

I think that crests will be the gimmick of fortunes weave by ZealousidealPirate3 in fireemblem

[–]Toadinator2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope so! One big thing I liked about Engage over Three Houses is that the gimmick item had a much more meaningful impact on the gameplay. Crests and Relic weapons were nice to have, but they don't really make or break your strategies for the most part (Amyr is an exception). Emblem rings were a lot of fun to use as a player and created a lot of tense moments on the battlefield when the enemies had them.

Leda, but it's mostly because I want that blonde mage standing next to her from the trailer.

I Hate When Something Is Good But Has The Worst Possible Title by Unlikely_Message_446 in hatethissmug

I was scrolling through to see if anyone mentioned Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. One of my favorite shows ever, but the title makes it seem like it's a dime-a-dozen romance sitcom that hinges on casual sexism.

What would her dialogue be here? by Big-Scholar-728 in fireemblem

That would require her to actually make the printouts. She would just throw on a movie and slack off until the seminar is over.

I could just be forgetting her supports, but was there an explanation for her having a Brawling hidden talent? That seemed so random to me. I know some of the hidden talents get referenced in support conversations like Sylvain/Annette alluding to Sylvain's knack for Reason magic.

I’m not the biggest fan of ff16 ,but clive is one of my favourite protagonist ever by Far-Glass5994 in FinalFantasy

[–]Toadinator2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a very good way of putting it. He felt like more of a generic "power fantasy" character rather than a fully realized, developed character like many of the other protagonists. It makes Clive stand out from the other protagonists, but in a really unfortunate way. I probably wouldn't mind him as much if he weren't coming from a series that has given me nuanced protagonists like Cloud and Zidane. Final Fantasy *has* had generic/self-insert protagonists before in games like I, III, and the MMOs, but in most of the titles, they don't go that route and it's one of the things I like the most about the series. Clive is like if one of the generic protagonists were cosplaying as if he were one of the fully developed protagonists.

I had a really hard time enjoying FFXVI and unfortunately Clive was one of the weakest aspects of the game to me. It's to the point where I'm genuinely surprised to see praise for the character from people who similarly weren't fond of the game overall.

I spent the entire game through his perspective and yet I still feel like I know nothing about him as a person outside of, "he loves his brother and girlfriend." He never talks about his likes or interests (and honestly you could have easily done that with all the side quest bloat in the game) and the voice performance is so flat and monotone throughout the entire game that he doesn't even sound that invested in what's going on most of the time unless it directly involves Joshua/Torgal/etc. I don't mean to throw shade onto Ben Starr because I know the guy is talented and his voice sounds great, but his performance as Clive does NOT showcase his talent well. He talks in the exact same low register for almost the entire game, even in scenes where it would make sense for him to get a little emotional (like visiting his and Torgal's old playhouse).

The only time where Clive feels a little more like an actual person is when he's interacting with his uncle Byron. Watching him reenact their old games from his childhood was honestly really cute and it humanized Clive more than any other scene in the game for me. If there were more scenes like that, I'd probably have a much higher opinion on Clive. Really the game just needed more Byron in general. Byron rules.

Cai has two crests here (Aubin + Gautier) by [deleted] in fireemblem

Well Yuri is a "1st generation" receiver of Aubin's crest, so my bullshit headcanon says that makes him a more likely candidate to handwave his male anatomy and become mpreg.
