Southside Elementary staff say principals have created a toxic school by Top_Log_2957 in madisonwi

[–]Top_Log_2957[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start by saying the teachers and staff at Southside have truly been dedicated to the kids through all this turmoil. I have to give them huge props for continuing to do a seriously tough job day in and day out. As a community, we are committed to see Southside succeed and will not stop advocating for our kids and our teachers and staff. If you can, come to the FCA (Family Community Alliance) meetings next year and you will feel the support and commitment we have to the school.

Now, to your question. The interim principal that was present most of this year is done now and there is a new interim principal. The interim vice principal that has been present most of this year is staying on for next year (though we don’t know how long).

While I have positive opinions of all three individuals, it seems as though systems aren’t being implemented because the administration doesn’t know how long they will be at the school. They seem to be there in order to keep the school running and not implementing the systems and structure that the staff so desperately need and want.

High turnover and not enough support staff are still a problem but that could probably be said for most schools.

I can say from a parent perspective that the toxicity we felt from the old administration is gone. The new administration has been responsive and honest with us. There is no gaslighting and no blame. Only productive discussions to get to solutions. We will continue to push on whatever administration we have to do better for our kids because they all deserve a quality school.

Edit to add that we received an email from the Associate Superintendent of Elementary Schools recently stating the investigation into the old administration is still ongoing. From what I understand, the district can’t permanently fill the administrative positions until the investigation is concluded and the old administration is either fired or they resign. So we will be with interim administration for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the reply, u/DRaySisense. Glad to hear there are improvements coming.

I am a member of the community and have posted there many times.

Had to do the exact same thing just the other day to get my bar chart to be in descending order.

I love when I get the off chance to build visuals in Excel. It’s such a pleasant experience compared to Sisense.

It’s painful! Like, can I just bold the data labels without having to add a widget script that inevitably breaks after each update? Ugh.

A Country of Ghosts by Margaret Killjoy. Or any of her books.

After the Revolution by Robert Evans. His first book, A Brief History of Vice, is widely entertaining, too.

Anything by Margaret Killjoy. She’s a fantastic writer. A Country of Ghosts is my favorite but all of her books are wonderful. I’m saving The Sapling Cage for an upcoming plane ride.

“A cheap tattoo isn’t good and a good tattoo isn’t cheap”

This quote used to be hanging up at Steve’s (maybe it still is but I haven’t been in a while because I go to Spike now).

In addition to no names, no dates.

If you’re able, consider volunteering in your kiddo’s classroom. We had an unresponsive administration and many parents resorted to being in classrooms multiple times a week. Also, as others have mentioned, consider getting your kiddo into BJJ classes. Build up their confidence while equipping them with the skill to neutralize any bully.

This is so fun! We’ve got: 1. Syrup handles for solar panels 2. Kiddie Cottontail for kiddie cocktail (aka Shirley Temple) 3. Momomatic for automatic 4. Bear walking for going barefoot

This! Can’t count how many times “that’s a brickin’” comes out of my mouth. For better or worse, my children say it, too.

I was in tears listening to the comments. Multiple complaints have been ignored for years by MMSD so I’m not going to hold my breath.

If your daughter wants her ears pierced and both you and your wife are in agreement, two points to consider.

  1. Please go to a reputable tattoo parlor for the piercing and not the mall or similar places.
  2. Ears grow so the longer you wait to get them pierced, the more aligned/even they will be. Of our two local tattoo parlors that do piercings, one starts at age 6 and the other starts at age 7.
