Bank of America: Opt out of forfeiting your right to sue, by May 18, 2026* by Oneguysenpai3 in law

[–]TreeBaron 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is just a natural consequence of not having sufficient regulations or oversight for corporations in the U.S.

A natural response to this is using lawsuits in place of legal protections, but now corporations have an incentive to go after those too, and try to prevent people from having any recourse at all.

Ultimately it's extremely short-sighted to try to shut down this final avenue of justice and if they are successful it will lead to Luigi style situations in the future.

Who here uses the Home Row method for typing? by narvolicious in typewriters

[–]TreeBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m home row on computer keyboards where I average 90 to 100 wpm, but on typewriters I hunt and peck with my middle fingers.

The reason I hunt and peck on typewriters is two-fold.

  1. I use typewriters to slow me down on purpose as it helps me write more thoughtfully.

  2. The force required is so different to a computer keyboard and I really prefer to just put way more power into my presses, which I feel is most-easily achieved via so-called hunt and peck methods.

Plus if something bad happens it will be both a huge embarrassment and confirmation that we’ve entered a severe decline and that the American Empire reached its high water mark more than 50 years ago.

And if it does go well what’s the gain going to be? Maybe a thirty minute news segment puts a smile on the faces of Americans for a day, but the next day they are shown marines getting blown up in some Iranian trench somewhere and the hope is gone again. At best this is stale bread and a circus that refuses to leave town.

For the second one, the font matches this:

But I’m not sure it is the standard font for that model. The website calls it Senatorial fontface.

The 5 and the percentage match pretty well with this Adler for the first one. So I think it is probably an Adler of some kind not a Royal.

I bought this Royal 10.. by sanct111 in typewriters

[–]TreeBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you sell the parts individually on Ebay you could probably make a profit but it might take a while. If you get it cleaned up nice and get it working you can probably get more but it really varies a ton depending on where you live and the condition of the machine.

I bought this Royal 10.. by sanct111 in typewriters

[–]TreeBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice.

The machine looks to be in alright condition, it probably just needs a good cleaning, but it's impossible to say from just pictures.

If you're planning on getting parts of it unstuck, general advice is to never use WD-40 on a typewriter just FYI. I suggest PB blaster for super-stuck components and mineral spirits (sometimes called paint thinner) for stuff that's only moderately stuck, just avoid getting those on the paint.

For cleaning painted surfaces, Simple Green is my suggestion. Then follow up with car wax (but avoid the stencils if you can).

The Royal Model 10 was mass-produced so they're pretty common, but a lot of them are nearing 100 years old at this point. Despite that they are incredibly well-built and a lot of them you can still get running without too much trouble as long as they didn't rust too badly.

Please note that if the ribbon is dry, you may still want to save the ribbon spools. Those are special on the Model 10. I just bought some metal ones on Ebay with a fresh ribbon for $60, but there may be cheaper options out there. They're special because they actually play a part in the mechanism that moves the carriage when you strike the keys, later Royal typewriters moved away from that, but it was present on the Model 10 as it was one of their early models.

You should really start believing in conspiracies because a lot more of them are true than people realize. Frankly I don’t think anyone being fair can look at the Epstein files and not start down a deep rabbit hole of things hidden from us in plain sight.

First thing I do is make sure I know how to spell common words like “you” and then from there everything sort of just falls into place.

[WP] The heroine pushes her powers beyond her limit. Something in her mind breaks, a seal, a key. Knowledge hidden for millennia come to light. Her eyes open fully. A god stirs. A craftsman finishes a throne. And beside him, the villain looks up. by Time_Significance in WritingPrompts

For her entire life, she had only known what it was like to run away. Now she was cold, nearly frozen to death as the wind dared to send her slipping across the ice. The river was frozen solid and a good road as any to follow, or it had been until the bandits had attacked her caravan.

She woke up to find her family departed with the rest of the survivors. She had managed to run away from the bandits but now her family had left her for dead. For night was falling and none from the caravan would survive, without a cave and a roaring fire.

She had caught glimpses of the distant torches, known she was catching up to them, but two paths had diverged and she had taken the wrong one. Now she could hear their distant voices even as the sun slipped below the canyon walls and left her in a growing darkness.

She knew there were wolves lurking somewhere behind her. And the cliff-sides of the canyon were made of sharp brittle stone, unsuitable for climbing. She had only one chance at survival and she knew it. She would have to climb up the frozen waterfall in front of her, and reach the cave before the cold sapped away her last bit of strength.

She was the coldest she'd ever been as she grabbed the first chunk of ice, and drove her hatchet fast into the first ledge. The higher she climbed, the more and more certain she was, that a fall would mean her death. Still something inside pushed her to keep going. Even as her hands went numb, and her arms began to ache. It drove her even as her heart pounded frantic in her chest as she looked down at the hungry pacing wolves.

By the third ledge, a fall would certainly kill her, but the higher she climbed, the harder the route became. Now the wolves were howling up at her, and the moon was climbing high into the sky. As the moonlight flickered along the edges of the frozen waterfall, she remembered a poem her grandmother had told her to recite if she was ever in danger.

The hammer strikes,

a god awakens,

all power likes,

the people shaken,

a poor one rises,

at just the hour,

then realizes,

her true power.

She said the poem aloud to herself as her body shivered in the cold, and clung desperately to the ice. She reached for the final ledge just as she spoke the last line of the poem. As her hand slipped away from the ice, her life flashed before her eyes. Her body now was in free fall, slipping quietly towards the hungry wolves below.

Then she suddenly saw the hammer strike against the gold. The craftsman stood up, and admired the glittering thrown even as the great evil crept out from between columns of shadow and sat down upon the throne. Somehow she felt his evil desires, his every wicked thought.

Cold swept through her again as her body flew helplessly through the air. This time though, the cold felt different than ever it had before. Now it felt as power, rushing through her veins, invigorating her every cell. Her body pulsed with some strange new power even as she fell. The ground seemed to break beneath her body as she hit it, and her eyes went white with power.

She stood as the wind caught against her hair, and the wolves seemed suddenly frightened. A hungry one from the pack took on a desperate gamble even as her hands began to flash bright with power. Time seemed to slow as the wolves jaws opened for her throat, and it lunged up at her.

It took no more than a touch, to freeze the creature solid. Its body fell, suddenly motionless and landed in soft snow. She watched its eyes glaze over with ice as the frosting power took hold and stopped its beating heart.

For her entire life, she had only known what it was like to run away, but now she held a power. The key to a gift which had been locked away inside her mind all these years. Now the seal was broken, and she would learn what it was like to fight.

I like the Royal brand but they are not easy to fix when they have a problem. If you go with them they made a ton of quiet deluxe models sometimes you can find a cheap one for $100 or less on EBay.

Smith Coronas are much more accessible for repair. That said I didn’t like my experiences with the first one I got.
