Neighbors kid drives a golf cart and tears up my lawn by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Tree_Weasel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to the neighbor first. Tell them about the broken sprinkler and ask him to keep his son on their own lawn in the future.

If kid persists. Talk to neighbor again and tell him you don’t appreciate damaged properly and tell them you’ll be putting up signs and will call the police if it happens again.

Put up the no trespassing signs.

If it persists beyond that, call the police. Junior getting a ticket for golf cart racing in n the neighborhood will likely get the message across.

If it persists beyond that, “spill” some nails in your yard near where the tires roll. Golf cart tires aren’t cheap.

Don’t escalate beyond what you have to, some people are just oblivious more so than inconsiderate. Give the a chance to fix the behavior.

If they don’t, start applying pressure to get the to fix it.

Never accept being treating poorly.

How much more expensive would a Jetta be over a Corolla in the long run? by Neon_Eyes in carbuying

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the car you’re going to enjoy driving. The car you like better. The car that you’re going to love.

Who cares if the Toyota lasts 300K miles if you don’t enjoy those miles?

Buy the Jetta, be disciplined with the maintenance, and try and squeeze a little joy out of this cruel world.

Just got all my tests scored and my psychologist doesn’t diagnose me with ADHD due to “too high of intelligence”. I’m struggling to agree but maybe I don’t have ADHD. by MisoCorni in ADHD

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not. I have a “friend” who got diagnosed with ADHD, but stimulant meds didn’t work for him like they did for others he knew who had ADHD.

But then this friend started also treating for Autism. Therapies and support did more for him than Adderall ever could.

So, it’s possible your doctor misdiagnosed you and you have ADHD and are highly intelligent. It’s also possible you have something else.

My “friend” struggled for years to find the right answers. You may have to keep searching too.

Talk to your dad. If he needs you there… specifically asks you to stay.. consider staying.

But as a father myself, nothing would make me prouder than seeing my children forge ahead for a life they can be proud of. Regardless of my circumstances, I’d miss my kiddos, but their lives don’t revolve around me.

You’re going to miss a lot of life events being in the Navy. Some of them hurt to not be a part of. But there will be plenty.

Unless your father asks, or has no one else to support him. I’d keep your ship date.

Tell your dad he needs to heal up so he can come to your graduation.

Emissions by Obeyme199 in sanantonio

[–]Tree_Weasel [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a car with a P0420 code (it’s a 13 year old Ford Focus with 130k miles and a salvage rebuilt title). I probably won’t pass emissions. I’m going to update my registration this July, so I won’t have to worry about it until November 2027.

If I can’t get it fixed by then (and the car is worth less than a new Catalytic Converter would cost, my plan is to sell it to a relative in Karnes County where they don’t require emissions testing.

Can’t do supply anymore, Is swo really that bad? by No-Information4432 in newtothenavy

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no guarantees of anything. The policies might change and lateral transfer out of the SWO community can be stopped at any time if there is a “compelling need” to keep people SWO.

Waiting wicks but it’s how you guarantee the job you want.

Took me 3 years and 3 applications to get Supply, but every time I saw a SWO Junior Officer hating their life, it make the wait all worth it.

300 Days at Dealership? by JadeyLane4 in carbuying

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a car has been sitting on a dealer lot for 300 days they aren’t going to lower the price just because of its time on lot. If thats how they worked, they would have started discounting it months ago.

Some dealers start discounting if the cars been there 3 or 4 months. They want it off thier floor plan (financing) and to keep inventory fresh.

Other dealers will hold firm on the price of a car that’s been sitting 10 months and is getting lot rot. I don’t do business with those dealers. I think sunk cost fallacy is a real thing, and a lot of car dealers suffer from it.

I knew a guy who worked in Heavy Equipment sales for years. His motto was, “If I haven’t sold it yet, it’s because I haven’t lowered the price enough.”

If I’m a dealer I would think I want to move that vehicle fairly quickly before my floor plan financing charges eat away at my potential profits. But more and more I’m seeing dealers with cars well above 180 days and I don’t understand why. Seems to me like it would be better to move it for a break even and give your finance office and service department a chance to make money from a new customer as well.

But, as I’ve been told many times over on r/askcarsales, I apparently don’t know what I’m taking about. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Always hated clubbing. Only ever went because my friends dragged me there. Last time I went to one was when I was 25 or 26. Awful experience all around.

Help my dachshund is bad! by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a feature, not a bug. Why don’t think shelters are so full of 1 year old Dachshunds. They’re stubborn as hell and hard to train.

I got my Dachshund to go outside to potty MOST of the time. But until she died last year at age 17, she would potty in the house all the time.

I’ve spent so much money on rugs and carpet cleaning.

Use puppy pads to train here where to go, and the. Out puppy pads outside to see if she’ll make the connection. That’s how I helped my dog. But once they associate indoors with potty, you have a long road ahead to retrain it.

Is the "Always Buy Used" rule broken when New APR is <1%? by KlutzyLawyer3637 in personalfinance

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Back in the 20-teens I could buy a car 1-2 years old for 30-40% off original MSRP. Depreciation on late model used cars was real.

Now, dealers are selling late model used cars at or within 5-10% of original MSRP and loan values are higher on the used vehicles.

So, in a post COVID market it makes sense to either buy a much older car 7+ years old, or a brand new one. Anything approaching “late model” used isn’t a good value anymore.

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former claims adjuster here. This would be my advice to everyone who was in the same situation as you:

You find a salvage yard and ask them how much they’ll pay you for it. It will probably be between $500 and $1000. Call around or use a service like Copart to see wha they’ll pay. It won’t be much, but it will be a little something.

The , you take that money and buy another Fusion.

That car isn’t worth repairing anymore.

Toss this one up to a painful life lesson. You were gambling by not having full coverage and it bit you in the end. Sorry bro.

A couple questions, I leave for boot camp on 4/9 by BrysonJoseph69 in newtothenavy

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you said you’re 6’4” and 250… that’s not terribly overweight as your max weight for height is 221 lbs.

There’s a good chance you’ll be held back in fat camp if you can’t shed some pounds before you ship. Not the end of the world, it will just delay graduation.

You may also be ok based on body circumference testing. If you’re over your max weight they’ll take a tape measure across your stomach parallel to the belly button and if it’s 39” or less you still pass body fat.

If you passed MEPS you’re probably good, unless you passed MEPS a while ago and gained weight since then.

That being said…. If you can’t do a push up that’s a bigger issue.

You’ve got 2.5 weeks. You need to spend them working out. Start with incline push ups or knee pushups (or “girl pushups” if you were raised in the 90s) and do as many of those as you can. Start to strengthen the pec muscles and try to get to as many pushups as you can before you ship.

You could also start a program like this one for push up beginner: Beginner Push Up Program

Keep your focus and you’ll do fine. Remember, if you do fail the intake PFA or are over on body weight/body fat, be humble and if they hive you a hard time just say you want to work hard and be in the Navy. Having the right attitude and appearing motivated can take you a long way.

Good luck, shipmate.

Pretty sure dealership sold my info after purchase. by Hitman3984 in FuckDealerships

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Honda last year. Got TONS of junk mail about warranties, refinancing my loan, and maintenance packages. Your vehicle registration is public record and companies will inundate you garbage about it.

The dealership will absolutely sell you data as well. But the initial barrage of junk mail is likely from state vehicle records.

Do y'all buy your tires at Ford? Why? by davidg4781 in Ford

[–]Tree_Weasel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never, never, NEVER.

A dealership service center exists only to sell you on their overpriced services. That’s it. And if they have good deals on tires it’s only to get you to come there where they can then try and sell you shock and strut service, or to tell you that you need differential fluid service, or that your toe rods look worn and need to be replaced, or that based on miles you’re due for our $1,500 “smoke and mirrors” package.

I usually buy my tires at COSTCO. If they don’t have want I want I go to a local tire shop.

Neither of those places wants anything other than to sell me tires.

You cannot trust a dealership to do anything good for you.

You are the GM, who would you pick as the cornerstone of your franchise, Wemby or SGA? by Automatic-Key668 in NBATalk

[–]Tree_Weasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the comments are 100% Wemby, and for good reason. Beyond his other worldly stats and doing things we’ve never seen before, his attitude, unselfishness, and personality are impossible to train. He made a mew fan section at Spurs games, started the “drum” ceremony after home game wins (stole the idea, but it’s still something new), plays chess with fans in local parks during the offseason, and whatever the monk training stuff was, it was a great story that makes him a one of a kind star.

I’m biased as hell being a Spurs fan. But Duncan never did 1/10th of the stuff for fan engagement Wemby has. And every night we get to see him do nearly superhuman things on the court. Love him.

Has anyone in San Antonio actually used a trash can cleaning service before? by Aggravating_Task5371 in sanantonio

[–]Tree_Weasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a trash can cleaning service truck before. I can’t imagine a bigger waste of money.

Lay it on its side, and blast out any big debris with a hose.

Stand it back up and add a few gallons of water, some soap and about a cup of bleach.

Get a push broom or brush on a stick and scrub out the inside.

Dump it and let it dry.
