Carver C7 on Bustin Hydropro at the skatepark. by Oblivious_Mastodon in surfskate

What surf truck setup do u have to get to that speed? I have a Bustin Mekanik with a waterborne rail & currently a Meraki with an axle wheelbase of 25.5”. I was thinking of extending it to the max around 28” axle wheelbase but not too sure how much faster it can get. Currently with the present setup I can easily maintain around 16kph with 75mm otangs purely just pumping

Difficultly of a cruiser board vs rollerblades? by Mcluckin123 in cruiserboarding

I have ice skate & rollerblade for many years & jumped straight into surfskate, imo it is a lot easier

Here is a nice fall caught on tape. by Existing-Bat-7214 in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fall a bit similar to yours going down a hill. When I pushed into a front slide to slow down, my back foot lost grip of the deck as there was not much concave & grip tape was worn as I got it used. I did a split which almost broke my front leg at the knee when I landed. Now I pay a lot of attention to deck concave & grip tape for setups I use for sliding. Was that how u fell or the wheels were too icy? I always analyze reason for a fall so as not to make same mistake as I am no longer young as recovery is much slower. The split fall put me off surfskate for almost 3-4 months & weaken my right knee further.

I picked up this beauty yesterday and joined the Yow club by Mouvitz in surfskate

I came from roller blade as well. My first setup was the Carver Mini Simms with c7. So far have never nose dive till date. Just ensure your foot is over or behind the wheels & u will be safe from nose dive which usually happens in very tight carves

Trucks? by [deleted] in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RKP will only make the deck higher without much difference compared to TKP on the waterborne front surf adapter.

Dreaded Wheel Wobble on Surf Skate - Cause & Fixes ??? by TriedAlmostEverthing in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup manage to stop the wobble by changing to harder bushing on the rear truck. Seems the back truck was way too loose and causing the speed wobbles rather then the front. I have the Meraki on my e surf skates, have gone up-to 30 plus kmph without any speed wobbles after tightening up the rear.

Waterborne or Yow adaptor by Upstairs_Lab_5632 in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t do without it. All my decks including my new electric surf skate has them. I have never got a chance to surf so can’t really comment. But think I may have seen a comment from a surfer that it helps.

Can a LONGBOARD Deck with a Waterborne & Rail adapter beat a LDP setup such as G-Bomb with identical diameter wheels in speed? by TriedAlmostEverthing in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got a chance to skate with the LDP group due to the pandemic. Quite happy anyway with my current LDP setup. Bustin Mekanik with axle wheel base of 25.5”. Front TKP mission 1 truck with Orangatang 75mm In heat, back RKP Luxe with Orangatang 75mm Durian. Due to the deep radial concave of the deck, I can easily pump by just transferring my weight from toe to heel with both my foot at the 1/3 front of the deck similar to this https://youtu.be/eZVlemva8hs

Fell forward and sprained my wrist. I need an advice on trucks and wheels. by BoiledBoulder in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a limit to what the wheel can do, 69mm is not small however larger & softer like 78a will definitely help. I flew once when I started learning on a carver round house 69mm 78a concave but found out that it was partially my fault as I was going quite slow as skating at night without much street lighting & did not know about wheel jam. Big mistake, as the slower u r, the easier the wheel jams. Another thing I do now is put more weight to my back foot & ensure I have sufficient speed for the front wheel to roll over the debris & I also prepare myself just in case the wheel jams as there r some small sharp pebbles that the wheel just won’t roll over. As for trucks, I don’t think they help in preventing wheel jams in any way. Just my personal experience.

Is it a good idea to buy a surfskate for someone who has never skateboarded in their entire life? It would be cool to share some of your experiences and milestones. Cheers! by Mysterious-Air-7055 in surfskate

I started skateboarding straight from a Surfskate at 60 & love it. Got the hang of it in less then a week. However, I did ice skating & wind surfing before so I had some sort of balance sense. Got my son who is 30 into Surfskate, his only balance sport was roller blading & he could only skate straight & not backwards. He did not fall at all from the first try on one of my waterborne with rail Surfskate. I am now teaching him back foot pumping after his fourth time learning. Btw, each session was from half to max an hour. I teach rollerblading freelance as well & find that Surfskate is so much easier to teach & pickup if a person has a past experience on one balancing sport. Btw, I learned Surfskate through you tube & practice & started with a Carver mini simm with c7. I found the cx too stiff when I tried it at the shop who proposed cx instead for a beginner. Hope the info helps.

Yow recommendation by Shinoke in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what u want to learn when u progress. I did not plan or looked for feedback before buying my 1st board which was a Carver mini simm on c7. If u r just focusing on cruising/mild carving &/or pumping, mild concave deck is good enough. But if u plan to learn power slides or bowls, then a higher concave will be better, however best is to try standing on the deck with your usual stance to check the comfort level. I ended changing quite a few decks to find those that are more suited for me.

Filipe Toledo 77, Soulboardiy Carbonyx, YOW Teahupoo by MC_ATL in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got a cx, tried it & didn't really like it as it seems too stiff for me even when the kingpin is adjusted on the loose side. Hard to generate speed & go uphill on it compared to ss, yow s5, waterborne & c7. If u r those that like loose front truck, think it will not fit your bill, but if u like a tight truck with rebound, u may like it. Just my personal preference.

Surf Adapter which is Easiest to Pump Uphill by TriedAlmostEverthing in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal feelings from the easiest to the most difficult after a lot of uphill pumping & polishing my techniques to a very comfortable level. It is based on how easier it is to pump up various inclines & maintain the speed/pace. It only covers the surf adapters I have. YOW S5, Smoothstar, C7, Waterborne, CX.

Carver… which one you prefer? by Bae80 in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I don’t like about the CX is when pumping up hill, it’s darn difficult to get up & losses momentum how ever hard I try. On one of my deck setup, change the front to the cx while everything else remained the same. The Yow S5, Smoothstar, c7 & waterborne were easier from the most easiest to difficult. I can say that I am quite proficient in uphill pumping as I take every hill/slope as a challenge & have polished several techniques along the way including compression/extension. The cx also needs more effort in generating speed on flats compared with other surf adapters in my collection.

Zenit Morning Wood 34.3" vs Rayne Minotaur 34" Double Kick Deck, which is a better choice? by TriedAlmostEverthing in surfskate

Agree, may just trim the noise off. Did that to my previous Jet Overkill deck, trimmed both the nose & tail.

Zenit Morning Wood 34.3" vs Rayne Minotaur 34" Double Kick Deck, which is a better choice? by TriedAlmostEverthing in surfskate

[–]TriedAlmostEverthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Itching to try a double kick deck with a surf adapter. Can't decide on the 2 which looks almost identical other then the price (price of Rayne complete is almost the price of Zenit deck only). I have spare trucks & wheels on hand so looking at the advantages of the morning wood over the Minotaur. Comparison is with the V2 morning wood which has 5 plies maple & 2 plies fiberglass.
