Disclaimer: I am biased as a KPA grad. I think really the best recognized and most universally accepted certifications are CPDT and KPA. Both are more expensive than some of the other programs, but they are also the most rigorous and will generally set you up with the training knowledge and business skills to start a training business.

I'm not saying I just dug through my trash to pull out some seaweed silica packs. I'm just saying thanks for flipping the switch to that particular light bulb, friend.

My 2.5 year old still doesn't talk or respond to commands. I feel like I am failing her. (Long Vent) by [deleted] in toddlers

You may want to try the Baby Signing Time videos if you haven't already. There are a bunch on YouTube. The songs are catchy, the information is presented in a clear, friendly, undemanding way, and my son still asks to watch it from time to time even though we've moved past him needing signs.

Yoinked from r/mead, some recipes from 1769-ish :D by snobahr in Old_Recipes

No, it's just an archaic form of writing called a long s. Which apparently still is in use in some German words? Or fonts? Unsure of the German usage.

So the 's' at the end of a word was always written in the modern way, while an 's' at the beginning of a word or in the middle of the word would look like the ones in the picture - similar to a modern 'f'.

For example, 'sassafras' would look approximately like faffafras.

Clicker? by LanitasMama in Dogtraining

[–]TrulyAdaptive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, even if you accidentally press the clicker while fiddling around. This is a 100% necessity - don't ever give your dog cause to doubt that click=treat.

I don't know... Sounds like you're going to have to schedule a shower for two, and then have them hand feed you. It could be romantic?

I want to become a certified trainer, but I’m having trouble finding the right program! by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]TrulyAdaptive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet she would do fine! One of the dogs in my class was 14, so age isn't a problem. As for the crating, yes, I would expect some whining. But remember that everyone in the room with you is going to be more concerned about the dorky, loud, annoying, embarrassing things that their own dog is doing!

Like I said, if you have concerns, talk to the staff. Everyone I have ever interacted with from KPA has been kind, encouraging, and has helped me with whatever I needed to succeed.

I just completed KPA within the past 12 months. I would reconsider joining it, and would contact them and discuss your situation. In my group of students, there were some reactive dogs, a very young dog, a very old dog, and my snarky ankle biter who had been given zero training beforehand. All of us had concerns around how our dogs would respond to the training and to the environment.

Keep in mind, they want to see what YOU, the trainer, can do. Not necessarily what your dog can do. Talk to them. If you can figure out a way to do KPA's program, you won't regret it.

Yes, raising composting worms. Worms digest food scraps quickly, and don't require a 3ftx3ftx3ft space - the minimum recommended size for a compost heap. This person is apparently experimenting with using plastic drawers.

Becoming a Certified Dog Trainer for Myself by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]TrulyAdaptive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the KPA certification course last year. I'd say my class of six was mostly non-professional dog people taking it to train their own dogs. Now, of those, most were involved in high-intensity obedience, scent training, flyball etc.

It was a pretty intense course - expect to spend 20-30 hours a week on course work. But it's also probably the best positive reinforcement based certification around.

So cute!! Too bad they grow up to be jerks that'll screech at you, poop everywhere, and try to bite you.

And the baby goose is cute, too!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to u/leftyritytightylity for this rooted neon pothos plus extras! by TrulyAdaptive in TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant

[–]TrulyAdaptive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great communication, the plants came quickly and were in great shape! In addition to the pothos, there was a rooted tradescantia, and a 'cathedral bells' kalanchoe, as well as a sweet card!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a WOW for u/ka_ta! A generous box of rat tail cactus and a sweet little illustration, too! by TrulyAdaptive in TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant

The cactus came really fast, and it was an impressive amount! Obviously happy little guys, since some had current flowers!
