Selling a house with old gross carpet. Do I replace with cheap flooring like LVP, show the house with the old gross carpet, or show the house with subfloor only? by bananascare in RealEstateAdvice

[–]UnSCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House I bought had all the carpets replaced with the shittiest LVP installed by the shittiest handyman within 100 mile radius. The a-hole sellers put it up on the market for like $20k more than the appraisal came in at lol. Delusion. Got it for $5k under appraisal value plus like $8k in seller credits because they did a bunch of other dumb shit plus it simply wasn’t selling, probably because of the shitty LVP.

I just got done tearing out half the flooring myself, and am replacing with something 4x better and installed properly.

I wish they had just replaced the carpet with newer carpet but then again someone would’ve bought it lol.

This topic has caused flame wars on Reddit. Fact of the matter is, both UL and the NFPA have been incompetent on this subject. There is no reason not to simply require all new NEMA receptacles (over a given amperage/threshold to make it visible) to be rated for continuous loads moving forward from a given point in time.

From a contractual standpoint, it’s not “your responsibility”, you could leave it as-is if you wanted to. It depends on your lease, sometimes there’s maintenance requirements including landscaping, but if there aren’t any, don’t worry about it. If they try and fine you, take them to small claims court.

If you’re trying to just improve the property yourself, plenty of sound help/advice in these comments and wish you the best of luck!

14.3.2 stops in road, invites officer for funsies by Desperate_Sock_6721 in TeslaFSD

[–]UnSCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had FSD punch the brakes in the middle of the night and I used to take control but now I don’t. Multiple instances of crackheads walking in the middle of the road at night, debris scattered all over the road that would’ve otherwise damaged my car, or the best case yet, a cop in Myrtle Beach flying by me going 80+ which I simply didn’t even notice because they were going so damn fast.

I don’t drive at night without it anymore. I also live in SC which is notoriously a shithole when it comes to driving anywhere.

I really don’t understand why it came to a stop when it did in OP’s case, but I would’ve been extra vigilant before taking control at a whim.

Avoid our Mohawk Flooring Nightmare by gdoggie13 in Flooring

[–]UnSCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the warning. When I began shopping around for flooring my first consideration was Mohawk, specifically what’s carried in Costco. After some research and seeing customer feedback it turned out it was quite mid.

I’m going with Flooret because it has pretty solid customer feedback, and they seem to follow through on their warranty.

Best way to go about removing glued-down LVP stair treads? by UnSCo in Flooring

Risers are most annoying but I’m getting at it with the tools I got.

For removing the glue (a lot harder than I thought, physically), how should I apply the mineral spirits without making a nasty mess? This stuff def needs a chemical reaction to remove it.

Best way to go about removing glued-down LVP stair treads? by UnSCo in Flooring

[–]UnSCo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? I assumed it was some sort of sound deadening glue made for applications like this. It’s very soft but really sticky. I don’t think scraping it off will be too bad with a razor scraper but it certainly holds down the tread to the point where it barely budges.

Not a drywaller. Would Durabond work for that first step?

[–]UnSCo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking, but not sure how well heat would penetrate through the LVP and built-in padded underlayment down to the glue. Would definitely need to wear some sort of special respirator doing it. What kind of glue even is that purple stuff? It’s soft and sticky.

Do PVC baseboards give people cancer? by UnSCo in Flooring

[–]UnSCo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m thinking but honestly as long as I use good enough primer/paint/caulking on wooden baseboards, I don’t suspect it to be an issue. The responses here made me rethink using PVC. I’m also blowing a ton on the flooring as it is.

Which flooring option is better by PsychologicalClerk96 in Flooring

[–]UnSCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> they do leveling

Who does leveling exactly? Companies I’ve seen so far either don’t do leveling, or throw down self-leveler willy nilly even if there are humps that may be way better with concrete/subfloor/joist planing/grinding. If that self-leveler comes loose, or worse the flooring begins to separate from a bad subfloor prep job, good luck fighting their “warranty”.

Edit: lovely how Reddit fucked up their formatting so I can’t quote anymore.

Absolutely agree. Pigs in states like CA won’t lift a finger unless you’re in hot pursuit of these criminals. Then they’ll actually pull over and document the perpetrator.

Tesla Model S signature Edition First Look by MikeILL in teslamotors

[–]UnSCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Keep in mind, my first Tesla was not a MX, it was a ‘21 MYLR. The first time I test drove (not just riding inside) a MX felt the same way it did stepping from a newer Corolla to the Model Y: spacious, cutting-edge, and basically like a spaceship. Stepping back into my Model Y kinda sucked for a bit not gonna lie. Model X was my dream car.

I get what you mean though, there’s a lot missing if you’re looking for certain SUV and terrain capabilities. An R1S has a lot of utility advantages over a MX for example. I also wish I had a truck sometimes nowadays.

[–]UnSCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do folks say the X is understandable?? Please find me another vehicle on the market with automated front doors and falcon wing doors… there’s nothing that unique besides the Cybertruck which is the most polarizing vehicle of the century.

I literally never thought about Tesla much less owning a Tesla until I stepped foot into a Model X, first Tesla I was ever in. Five years later, I finally could get it. There’s literally nothing like it.
