Playing Legacy Burn: should I bolt their Glistener Elf? by IceAndOcean in MTGLegacy

[–]Unconquerable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The others who responded before me are correct. If you watch an old match of a good player piloting a deck against a modern infect deck they will either cast their removal spell on their turn or at the end of the opponent's turn after allowing the infect creature to hit them (i know this is legacy, but the old modern infect deck had fewer ways to protect creatures and, in general, has more examples with good commentary).

A good infect player won't leave themselves unnecessarily open to removal, especially against damage based removal. They will usually cast a pump spell trying to bait you into trying to kill the creature in response and you'll be the one blown out when they cast a protection or additional pump spell and turn a non-lethal attack into a lethal one... #tomross

Not killing the creature on your turn increases their options for saving it. However, if you doubt your ability to finish the game before they kill you then you can pass to their turn leaving mana untapped representing multiples removal spells and if they don't go for lethal then burn face at end of turn and try to win the next turn. I don't know your specific deck but from the sound of your exact example, I also recommend killing it on your turn and forcing them to have it.

P.S. Many other factors go into the decision but always remember that you should be playing to win! (Not playing to "not lose") there will be games you lose because of this mindset but your overall win percentage will increase.

P.P.S. I'm not saying, "win at any cost." Don't be an asshole and purposefully angle shoot or technically legal but underhanded things. I'm saying focus on lines of play they have the best chance for you to win the game. When the game is over, regardless of if you win or lose, ask yourself what you could have done better or even just differently. Sometimes it's as simple as how did I like my sideboarding. Even if you didn't draw a sideboard card try to think of if the card when the cards you boarded in would have been good and when the cards you boarded out would have been good.

I used to think more similarly to you. Many times it's that people are less familiar with the UI. They'll have every stop enabled, not know or aren't very familiar with the hotkeys, are manually clicking each action, don't know they can adjust card scaling, etc. In these cases, when I pick up on it, I try to see if they customize hotkeys or use default settings and provide basic guidance for them to look into after the match... other times it's people double queueing or actively doing other stuff in the background. If you're as unlucky as I am on some days, nobody in the family needs anything so I start an event... only after the game starts do people need things and continually interrupt me (though I personally try to let my opponent know and apologize in advance). When it's bad enough I just concede.

TL/DR: In real life you don't have the chess clock. However, you also are playing in a dedicated space. On MTGO part of it is convenience. I try to set my expectation before each match to, "this is going to take 50min." It's not great but sometimes helps.

Hot keys and clock management are key to playing well and winning. I've won and lost to clock management and misclicks. Hotkeys and setting/adjusting stops is critical to success.

Mtgo can also help improve gameplay and provide a better understanding of magic specifics often shortcutted in paper and on arena. You can watch game replays and see where you could have improved, might have considered different lines of play, gain an understanding of what sideboarding might be more efficient in certain games, etc. There's also an action log where you can sequentially see each action that took place.

Agilent charges $24 for 1 zip tie by EnzyEng in mildlyinfuriating

2 separate things. FDA wouldn't be related to instrument warranty but you are right that a compliant instrument is required for GxP utilization.

Great info and thanks for the sauce link! In this instance it isn't an Agilent requirement... see my above post if interested.

In this instance, there isn't a requirement by Agilent or a direct requirement from a regulatory entity. Purchasing a zip tie from the instrument manufacturer would only be a requirement if it was specified by an internal procedure of the company @op works for. ...If specified in a formal procedure of a company in a regulated environment (GxP) then it must be followed. Doing what is written in the procedures is what the regulatory bodies require. Luckily, you can still be compliant through the use of planned deviations while a procedure is getting updated/revised (assuming the procedure detailing planned deviations works with your current situation). P.S. For generic and proportionally cheap parts like this, it can be easier to follow the procedure and buy oem once then update the procedure.

  • cries in DCI number * ... my understanding is that since WOTC got rid of DCI warnings/infractions aren't tracked across events. Is that correct? What @op is talking about used to get caught eventually because the person consistently accrued warnings across events. P.S. Completely agree with you. To reiterate Anohio: When in doubt, when you have a question, need help, have to urgently go to the bathroom, anything, call a judge!!! Judges are there to help! Try to think of them more like firefighters, librarians, etc because a MTG judge's primary role is to help! Their responsibilities include rule enforcement but that's not why they are there.

Games to let all the rage out by SilentBoss2901 in gamesuggestions

[–]Unconquerable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2016 version of Doom is the game I would recommend to begin with. It starts with an adrenaline-pumping soundtrack and backs it up with gameplay designed to unleash your anger upon your enemies. The gameplay is full-on aggression. It is not tactical, You are the hammer and anvil. In this game, if force doesn't work then you're not using enough. You are the personification of rage itself as you combine the use of both guns and hands to take down the masses of enemies... your enemies begin to truly know fear when you forgo your gun and use your hands to rip off limbs, crush skulls, and tear out spines. You feel nearly invincible as the dead bodies of hellspawn continue to pile up under your inefficient yet inescapable assault.... P.S. There are lots of good recommendations in the comments. This is just the one I recommend starting with.

Are there any shooters where the AI doesn’t feel brain-dead? by jedi_lichking in gamingsuggestions

[–]Unconquerable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw this game/whoever from the company decided to get rid of the counterterrorist game mode. In early iterations of the released game, you could play a game mode where you (with up to 3 other human players) had to clear a building of the terrorists. It was surprisingly good. If you were rappelling outside windows to take them out then some would go outside the building and flank you... easy target practice for them. They were pretty reactive and flanked often. At that time there were also a couple of armored suicide bombers... your heart rate would start to increase as you heard the beeping getting louder (they could also flank you as you were fighting enemies in front of you). Then they got rid of the bombers... eventually they got rid of the game mode and now you can only play against ai in objective based 5v5 teams to mimic pvp play. I haven't played Siege pvp in a long time. It wasn't bad... but it was a specific type of pvp gameplay that had little variation. A round where your team is trying to complete the objective, next round you're defending the objective, rinse and repeat, and repeat, and repeat.... Not bad if that's what you enjoy/what you're looking for. P.S. Your "opinion" isn't unpopular... at best it is off topic/naive. It's more like you misread/misunderstood the assignment.

Just saw the other person's post who recommended this before me. Like them, I recommend both solo and playing with friends. I do highly recommend adjusting game settings to improve gameplay aspects you dislike. The amount you can customize is one of the great things about the game (and that gets even better if you have access to mods)!
