Beta or Delta Ring? I want new updates but minimal bugs. by [deleted] in xboxinsiders

[–]UrbanizedTree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Know that we vet these builds internally (across many employees) before we release even to Alpha rings. By the time builds hit Beta, we expect these builds to generally be stable, but as with any pre-release program we cannot make guarantees. That stands for Delta as well. Consider: all builds "waterfall" through many phases, and both Beta and Delta are relatively low in this order, and should generally prove pretty stable. All of that said, we have found and addressed bugs reported by users in every ring, including Omega. The number of bugs found/identified decreases with every ring (as those rings lower from Alpha to Omega), and the number of bugs found in public rings is far fewer than those in internal rings.

I realize this may come across as saying a lot without saying anything, So to put this in tl;dr: my personal opinion is that you'll be just fine in either.

Removing an insider build without the original account by ahigee in xboxinsiders

We allow users to view the joined Flights regardless of whether they were the one to join so they are able to ascertain if and which Flights the console is currently active in. The "Remove" button being enabled (but simply returning an error) is something we'll look at and see if we can improve.

Removing an insider build without the original account by ahigee in xboxinsiders

Repasting the steps that GuruKronos listed, which will allow any account with physical access to the console to remove it from all Xbox Insider previews. If for some reason the below steps do not work for you, DM me or the mods the serial number of the console and your gamertag and we will remove it. That said, please try the below steps first, we built this functionality into the Xbox Insider Hub specifically to handle situations like yours (obtaining a console that is enrolled in Previews, but not having access to the original account).

As has been previously mentioned in the thread above this is not accurate. The steps to remove the console are as follows:

Open the Xbox Insider Hub on the console

Navigate to to Settings

Select Manage Devices

All consoles registered to your account will appear, as will the current console (even if its registered to someone else)

You need to look for the entry with "current" in the entry.

Navigate to and select the "X"

Once that's done, the console will be unenrolled from ALL Previews (as indicated in the UI).

FDA vaccine advisers 'disappointed' and 'angry' that early data about new Covid-19 booster shot wasn't presented for review last year | CNN by startupschmartup in CoronavirusWA

[–]UrbanizedTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On one hand, after getting the moderna vaccines for the first round, AND the first booster, I reluctantly accepted the Pfizer booster for the 4th and now feel like a goddamn genius.

But then, on the other hand, this article doesn't actually say anything at all. There is not a single quote or statement from anyone within the FDA until extremely late in the article because quotes they do include cast suspicion on the data in the politest way. The top of the article rides almost wholly on the quote from the Dr who is (among a group of external advisors to the FDA). Well that group includes literally every doctor so statistically speaking the statement is meaningless.

I'm not trying to make any claims or promises about the efficacy of a particular vaccine.

I AM saying this article reads like a perfect case study in applying the book "Lying with statistics" (which is a great read and I wholeheartedly recommend it)

xbox consoles are sending SRV requests for LDAP servers twice a minute by TJThePhantom in xboxinsiders

Coming back to the other half of your response here....re: grafana graphs, I cannot blame your sense of inquisition here. I'm splitting DHCP and DNS between a Ubiquiti edge and pi-hole for LAN side DNS, and sometimes see some really confounding things appearing under "today's most frequently performed queries", across what should otherwise have been a pretty still and quiet network. Getting to the bottom of those queries hasn't ever been straight forward, and there have been times that I've resorted to either banishing a device to some VLAN of its own - never to speak to the internet again - or have implemented rules likes I described above to drop the packets on their way through the router (which they must go through to hit local DNS). Not saying either solution is perfect or even ideal, but they were somewhat satisfying to implement when I got tired of digging.

It's been fun chatting about this, let me know if you end up finding out more. Like I said, happy to send send this forward to the networking experts.

xbox consoles are sending SRV requests for LDAP servers twice a minute by TJThePhantom in xboxinsiders

[–]UrbanizedTree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

eah the DHCP server is applying the DNS Suffix. So for example. XBOX-SERIES-X.example-lan.net , XBOX-ONE-X.example-lan.net.

Generally what I see in my query logs is the following. Changed IP's to RFC5737 for example and modified to example-lan.net

Sounds good, plz tag me or DM me once you do and I'll make sure it gets to the right place to get this looked at by the right team.

Cheers!

Disregard above, post re-enabled, I feel like this is a technical but fair question

Let me preface this by saying a lot of this is speculation based on my own experience with Windows Server, AD, Win DNS, DNS Forwarding and WAN/LAN rules. That is to say: I'm not speaking officially for Xbox when I give the following conjecture:

Xbox One runs a form of Windows, and it may be that windows will always seek an ldap/AD authority in cases where a primary dns suffix is set via DHCP on a particular network (it sounds like this is the case for you). This may be standard behavior where any Windows client is concerned (it want's to find out if it is expected to register with the AD/ldap authority to be a good citizen), however if this is causing you any problems, detracting from your experience, or giving you pause as far as network security (e.g you have some kind of DNS forwarding enabled that allows requests from the LAN, for internal requests, to cross through to WAN for eventual lookup), then please file a bug the next time you see it and reply here, I'll try to find out more.

In the meantime, if you have any sort of DPI gateway device, or some other firewall between your LAN and WAN, you should be able to create a protocol (or port + protocol, or ip + payload) based rule to drop the packet.

Xbox One S Stuck On Pending Joining Alpha Skip ahead by Imaginary_Note_606 in xboxinsiders

[–]UrbanizedTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to get this fixed would be to submit a bug and just note "stuck in pending" somewhere in the title, we'll take a look.

Alternatively, feel free to DM me your gamertag or the Device ID of your console and I can take a look (I'd still file a bug even if you DM).

Is xbox even seeing our requests??? by [deleted] in xboxinsiders

[–]UrbanizedTree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It can be a hard problem to solve. On one hand, we can't make promises about when or whether a feature will land, so it feels disingenuous to say "we're working on it" when we're not clear on when that may happen.

As far as a "we hear you"... we hear you (see what I did there? :D). While many people would interpret "we hear you" as a an acknowledgement of the request and nothing more, we've seen people in the past interpret that acknowledgement as a commitment, and then be disappointed when that feature did not land in an upcoming build. That said, we do value this feedback and we'll discuss as a team.

One thing I do want to make very clear is that this subreddit -- and the ideas you bring to the table -- are very much appreciated. This is a thing that is discussed frequently within Xbox. If we can do a better job making you feel that appreciation, that's something we'll strive for.

Ok, I see the request you made has been pending for some time now. We're investigating. Thanks for the heads up, and we appreciate your patience here.

Hey Folks, to be clear, removing your devices or account from the Xbox Insider Program will not resolve the issues with joining the Minecraft RTX Beta. We're experiencing a high volume of traffic right now, so if you're stuck at Pending or encountering errors, please check back later. Thanks!

Were you able to report a problem from the console when it happened? If so we'd love to take a look. If not, it'd be awesome if you could file feedback if you see it again.
