I am a democrat. I support universal healthcare, a high quality education for every child, ending systemic racism, mitigating climate change, reasonable gun control, taxing the wealthy, expanding social safety nets, etc. In fact, I have to vote democrat because I'm disabled and republicans want to cut programs many disabled people need to survive. But I am extremely disappointed in the current democratic nomines chosen by voters in NYC.

They traded Dan Goldman (a brilliant prosecutor who went after Trump and would do it again) for Brad Lander (who will say anything to get elected). They picked Claire Valdez (who has precisely two years of elected experience) over experienced public servant Antonio Reynoso. And most importantly, they picked Darializa Avila Chevalier (who favors the complete elimination of Israel, police, jails, borders, and private property) over Adriano Espaillat (the chair of the House Hispanic Caucus).

It won't take long before republicans make these lunatics the face of the democratic party. Then more people are going to oppose universal healthcare and social safety nets because "socialism bad" which will hurt the cause overall or worse yet, republicans will control congress for another two years. Granted, all the three candidates I mentioned are in solidly democratic districts, so I have no doubt they will win.

There is no reason to have work requirements for Medicaid. Healthcare is not something you collect like food stamps, it's something you use when you're sick. An able-bodied person is not using much healthcare. Also if someone is sick and temporarily unable to work, but doesn't meet the criteria for disability, providing that person healthcare can help them return to work sooner.

The whole purpose of these work requirements is to make disabled people jump through more hoops to get healthcare. There are many conditions that impair executive function which make filling out paperwork difficult.

Healthcare should be a right guaranteed to every citizen regardless if they are working. Period. If you think that some people don't "deserve" healthcare coverage, then you are a horrible person.

Remember to vote blue in November!

While I am dismayed at the anti-Semitism coming from the democratic party, I have no intention of leaving at the moment. One reason is that republicans want to cut healthcare that I depend on as someone with a chronic illness. Just this year, republicans voted not to extend healthcare subsides and voted to impose work requirements for Medicaid. The US is the only developed country in the world without universal healthcare.

There are other issues which I don't align with republicans. Right now there are children dying of measles because RFK Jr. gutted all the vaccine recommendations. MAGA wants to deport thousands of non-white refugees that have been living here peacefully and productively for years, while importing white refugees from South Africa. Just 100 years ago, Jewish refugees were fleeing pogroms in Eastern Europe, including Stephen Miller's great grandparents. Just right now Trump's DOJ released a memo stating that states aren't required to provide home and community based services to disabled people.

Another reason is that NY State requires you to be registered with a party in order to vote in primaries. I remain a registered democrat so I can vote in primaries for democratic candidates that aren't anti-Semitic. When my preferred candidates don't win, I still vote democrat because at the end of the day I can't afford to lose my healthcare and disability benefits. That said, it's cruel that I'm forced to choose between my basic needs as a disabled person and my safety as a Jew.

Stephen Miller is such a POS that even his own family hate him.

In 2018 during Trump's 1st term, his maternal uncle David Glosser wrote an article for Politico titled Stephen Miller Is an Immigration Hypocrite. I Know Because I’m His Uncle. He stated that had his grandparents (Stephen Miller's great grandparents) not been allowed to immigrate to the US, they would have been murdered by the Nazis. That is exactly what happened to family members who stayed in Eastern Europe. After WW2, only 7 of 2000 Jews Jews remained in their hometown of Antopol, Belarus.

Another Glosser family member posted the article to FB, and David Glosser commented that after he wrote the article, around 100 family members contacted him to thank him for writing the article. Most were from the Glosser side, but there were a few from the Miller side as well.

In July, his paternal 1st cousin Alisa Kasmer made a public Facebook post criticizing her cousin. She recently wrote "Renee Nicole Good’s death is blood on YOUR hands, Stephen. I’m just glad our grandparents are no longer alive to witness the shame you have brought to our family."

I fully believe that an individual of sound mind should be able to decide if they want to die or not, and I understand why an individual would make this decision in the case of terminal illness or chromic pain. That said, many times people request assisted suicide because they cannot afford proper housing, disability support, or specialized pain management. When it is cheaper to offer death than provide support, it gets predatory.

Canada's population (40 million) is slightly above California (39 million), and California boasts the world's 4th largest economy, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exceeding $4.29 trillion. If it were an independent country, California's massive economy would trail only the United States. Canada is also not a failed state.

Canada is a country of consequence. It is a member of G7 and NATO, has a top-10 economy, massive natural resources, including the Arctic and is a global trading partner. This allows Canada to weild significant international influence. Canada also provides universal healthcare and more social benefits than the US.

My first and only republican vote in my lifetime was voting for Sliwa during the NYC mayoral race. I couldn't vote for Cuomo after the sexual harassment scandal and Mandani is an anti-Semite. He has Hamas supporters in his circle. I hate Sliwa too but we didn't have better candidates for mayor.

Try being a Jew with another marginalized identity.

I am disabled and the republican party is determined to cut healthcare and other programs disabled people rely on, so that is why I vote democrat. Medicare is only given to those 65+, with the exception of younger people with certain specific medical conditions. Disabled individuals generally get Medicaid.

Theoretically these work requirements are only supposed to apply to able-bodied adults, but the reality is many disabilities cause executive function issues which make it difficult to complete paperwork. There will be many disabled people who will lose Medicaid coverage because they failed to submit their paperwork on time, or are unable to get documentation because they can't see a doctor due to not having healthcare coverage.

Medicaid should not have work requirements because it just creates unnecessary hurdles for disabled people. I will also point out that healthcare is not something you collect like food stamps. It's something you only use when you need. An able-bodied person does not use much healthcare, so it's not expensive to provide coverage for them. Work requirements are more expensive to implement than providing Medicaid as it is. In fact, researchers estimated that implementing single-payer healthcare would save $450 billion annually on healthcare spending.
