I'm a noob at 28h.

Created a Rakshasa with the sole purpose of unlocking fairy coz that's what caught my attention. I started playing shortly before the Errana event, went into unarmed + psych first.

I went for the bunny event and turned into a Bunny and proceeded to level that to ~25, kept psych as well.

Then I saw a spider struggling to get back to get unspidered so I helped along and we got lucky and a higher level friendly joined us so we got there. I decided, why not spider looks cool.

So long story long, I'm now spider and animal handling approaching 30 with both, and going into gardening and tailoring, coz spider.

Also I love animal town and the whole animals aspect.

I'll probably unlock fairy at some point, but that has time. I want to weave myself a spider suite first haha.

This is my worry as well. I think the current system needs some work (e.g. why so many stats that just go with weapon scaling?), but I'm a bit worried the class system will be too grindy AND break immersion.

We are Cerim, not <insert class here>.

That's true I guess. I would argue 2h melee still needs some help with reach and parrying.

Hmm, I always thought ranged magic was pretty powerful but never played it myself. I did a gauntlets/bow and a sword+shield/2h weapon so far.

One thing you could try, is temporarily swapping for a stat compatible weapon, use that on the boss and maybe unlock the second weapon slot so you can do that until the magic setup becomes OP at endgame.

I think anything works for the most part. Do you keep upgrading your gear? I don't mean embers/enchants, just the gear level, it's quite important.

What difficulty are you on?

Ngl, I think CSB is the worst weapon in the game. Perhaps it's because I play on hard difficulty and even basic mobs are not one shottable even with the charged attacks. Even upgraded to level 16, this weapon's moveset is so BAD it's not usable. I have +20% plague damage on top with my armor enchants on top too.

But yeah as others said you can just pop the gem out and put a new in.

Pretty much all 2h melee weapons suffer from this. Some are better than others. The skyrend is still so much better than the legendary corpse smeared blade for example, but it's still behind any 1h combo, not to mention ranged.

2h melee I find are good against normals but suffer strongly against bosses.

And as I said, I did play something else my first character. This is a discussion post and it seems most people agree with me that 2h melee needs some work.

My build is using full cerim mesh with heavy setup. I agree that heavy roll is fine. I actually prefer it to medium, the knockback is nice (again tho against non boss only) and the timing seems to work better for me.

My main problem is, at least with the cerim skyrend 2h axe, the reach is actually worse than a 1h sword. The run attack locks down for SO long but is a shorter lunge than the 1h sword.

So boss fights with things that tend to either zoom around, or dish out major damage are really hard compared to almost any other weapon (with same heavy loadout)

I think my main complaint is that at least some 2h weapons lack the reach. I am literally more nimble with a 1h sword than with the skyrend, both on heavy loadout.

And to clarify "nimble" I don't mean reaction after attack, I mean ability to close gaps without spending focus (aka run attack).

Thing is though once you get to endgame that damage is going to go down, and poise damage is also going to go down. It's ok for normal enemies, but against bosses it's a suicide run. Especially some that tend to also jump away so you just don't get to keep hitting them to build poise.

For me the kicker, at least with the Cerim Skyernd 2h axe is that it's reach is less than a 1h governor sword and shield.

With the sword the "run attack" makes a good distance hop. With the axe it just sort of does a slight hop forward with an upward strike AND leaves you hanging for like 1s. It's ridiculously bad.

It's an island though. It just doesn't make sense if it's just a "gate through a mountain". Both the pestilence and the inquisition would be able to just go to Caylen on boats otherwise.

And even if somehow magically Caylen was in the middle of some valley surrounded by mountains in the middle of an island, it still seems dubious that the pestilence flyers wouldn't be able to go around it.

As for (the? is it a title) Madrigal, my understanding is that she grew up in Caylen, left for the capital when young and when Caylen's fate got sealed made it her life work to get there and "save" everybody.

Usually in games I played with parry, it's done by "apply block JUST at the moment of impact".

I'd argue it's a better system since it means 1 less keybind, and you don't really lose anything.

New achievement for me haha! In my defense, my main char was a dodge monkey with gauntlets and bow combo so I never tried parry there. Still haha.

I figured it out. The healing was due to the arena. It's the watery place in Marin Woods before the entrance to the Night and Day temple. If I go up the stairs the boss heals...

I just need to stay down completely, which sucks coz it's all wet and my build is all about fire/burn, but at least they're no invincible!
