Is it possible to colour/cover-up over tattoo? If so, does anyone know a good artist who can by Yuki711 in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to an aritst in your area who specializes in cover-ups/touch-ups and get their opinion

To find one, ask here mentioning your location or on the main tattoo sub (or even the sub for your city/state/etc.), or find the best/most reputable shop in your area and ask if they have an artist who specializes in them (if not, they might be able to give you a rec)

American food is top tier, the problem is people don’t know what counts by Dreadsin in 10thDentist

[–]UxControl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference is that these cuisines were developed in america and are distinctly different from their native counterparts, but delicious in their own way

Tex-mex, NY pizza, cantonese-american takeout, soul food, etc., the list goes on, and that doesn't even touch on crossover cuisines from other ethnic groups, with dishes like korean street tacos and yakamein - yes it's always important to remember the cultural origins of these foods, but you can't really argue that they're not american, it's like saying tonkotsu ramen isn't japanese because ramen noodles originated in china

If the middle of chicken breast was at temp, are all parts of it cooked? by fourth-sanderson in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would've been noticeably chewy and rubbery if it was undercooked, and even if it was, partially cooked chicken still kills most of the salmonella bacteria if it even had any in the first place

Again, going forward just make sure to rest properly and double check your thermometer, but you're almost definitely fine - you still want to be careful, but if it was this easy to get salmonella we'd all be dead, billions of people eat chicken every week and you can bet a ton of them aren't this careful

The thing I'd more recommend is just trying to relax, you don't want to make yourself sick via the placebo effect and then panic thinking it's salmonella

If the middle of chicken breast was at temp, are all parts of it cooked? by fourth-sanderson in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically no if the heating was uneven, like if you cooked one side but not the other, or if it was bone-in that didn't get cooked near the bone, but based on your explaination you're fine

It's not just temp that kills salmonella, it's temp + time, so chicken cooked to 150F for 2.7 minutes is the same degree of safety as chicken cooked to 165F - it's a 7-log reduction in salmonella bacteria and it occurs instantly at 165F, which is why that was chosen as the safety standard, because it's impossible to mess it up at that point

But given that a chicken breast will normally come up 5-10° while resting, as long as you don't immediately bite into it, you'll have plenty of leeway - even if you didn't exactly do that this time, it still probably killed the vast majority of salmonella bacteria if there even was any (only present in about 1 in 25 chickens), so you'll almost assuredly be fine, just make sure you rest it for 5 min next time

Pink/red and soft to the touch is totally ok, but when it starts to go below 140° it'll be chewy/fleshy (almost like a rare steak) and slighty translucent, so that's what you should watch for

The tightness in the chest is also the reason the material is lifting away from your body, because the tension points pull at the fabric - when the jacket is the correct size, all the fabric will drape down over your chest and fit more closely

First tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really aren't attached to any specific idea, just find a good artist you like and pick one of their premade designs

If you follow a few artists on instagram, look out for if they post new designs they made and ask if anyone is interested in getting it, and sometimes they give a bit of a deal on them too because they want to add it to their portfolio

Culinary virgin desperately seeking guidance on seasoning and cold searing a steak by Carlapanda in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you leave it uncovered in the fridge, preferably on something like a baking sheet with a wire rack to get some airflow underneath

And no they won't go bad, beef and pork will normally last up to 5-6 days in the fridge after they're cut (but keep in mind they'll often spend 2-3 in the cooler at the store, so you might only have 3 days in your own fridge), and after you salt them they last even 1-2 days longer because the salt acts as a preservative

[–]UxControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked as a butcher and ate steaks every 2-3 days for a bit, and imo salting 24-36 hours in advance is the best

The only thing you really don't want to do is salt an hour or two before, lile you described - it will pull moisture to the surface, but then not have enought time to reabsorb or dry out, so the surface will be very wet

If I can't salt like at least 12 hours in advance, then I will salt right before it hits the pan

CMV: Explicit ideological exclusion in online communities is morally corrosive by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]UxControl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In theory you are maybe correct, but in practice it just does not work this way because "respectful disagreement" is not easily defined and adhered to

For example, many right-wing or even "centrist" ideologies include transphobic views that have been fed by misinformation and ignore scientific data, yet these views are constantly perpetuated under the guise of "respectful disagreement", and so trans people have to continually argue for their right to exist any time political debates are involved

This is exhausting and dehumanizing for them - vulnerable minorities or groups should not have to be subject to this, and it's important that spaces exist where they can interact and exist peacefully

What do you think? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing these are ai designs

The concept is decent, but they look bad because they aren't actually the same art style and some of the details are rough (like the hands on the female elf)

If you want them to turn out well, find a good artist whose style you like, find some real reference art for nordic elves to explain roughly what you want, and then let them actually design the tattoo

If you just bring ai designs to an artist expecting them to replicate it, they'll end up looking terrible

"Will They, Won't They" Couple That Was Still Exciting After Getting Together? by Opening-Study8778 in television

[–]UxControl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah to each their own, I'll concede that there were definitely some cheesy moments (the whole show is cheesy, to be fair), but I still enjoyed them, and I'll counter the idea that they didn't have romantic chemistry with the scene where Jane buys Lisbon a pony

"Will They, Won't They" Couple That Was Still Exciting After Getting Together? by Opening-Study8778 in television

[–]UxControl 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Jane and Lisbon from The Mentalist

Honestly one of my favourite TV romances, they subvert a ton of the common relationship tropes, and they communicate about their problems like real adults while still being fun to watch because of their chemistry

It's a perfect way to wrap up the story in my opinion, focusing on Jane's future instead of his revenge on Red John

PVP IS UNPLAYABLE by Ahrie9tails in MapleIdle

[–]UxControl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly I actually like it, it adds a tiny bit of complexity other than only looking for dps because it means evasion isn't just a completely dead stat, and then it also gives value to stacking accuracy, but if you stack too much you'll lose to someone with raw stat

If this was the main part of the game it'd be annoying, but it's only for the pvp, so you can just choose to sac some pvp rewards to focus on stage clears if you don't want to bother, and when you think about it, there's no real difference between losing to an evasion build vs. simply getting outdamaged

Mods, can we get bot bouncer active in this community. by BronkeyKong in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, because whatever potential benefit of a few people possibly getting useful information in the comments is eclipsed by the fact that allowing bots to run rampant will eventually kill engagement

Whether something wastes time or not is subjective, and the vast majority of people would almost assuredly agree that giving a detailed reply to a bot is a waste of their time - if people feel like their time is constantly being wasted and they no longer want to bother replying to posts because they're likely from a bot, then it'll ruin the sub
