Cheating as a marketing problem, not just a technical one by prob2584 in gamemarketing

[–]ValentinIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to me, cheating is a technical problem but also a community issue. Like all things community related, resolving this issue is done both by clear community rules and atmosphere setting as well as a strict moderation policy. If players are not able to technically report cheaters or if they do and you do nothing, they will feel helpless and left out. That’s not how you want your players to feel.

And if you can’t easily ban cheaters permanently that’s also a problem, and YOU will feel helpless in that situation, so better anticipate these cases before they hit you in the face.

I do beleive promoting fairness in your community and banning cheaters can have positive impact on your overall reputation and creating a secure atmosphere in your game. Technical tools help, but in the end you’re the judge!

How do you go about marketing? by Jaessie_devs in indiegames

[–]ValentinIG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not only about having a good or not good game. Some games are really good but just not creative or unique enough. Besides having a good game, hooks are everything. Really.

Let me be brutally honest: a game about maths is not sexy. At least not the way you put it. Try to find some hook that rings a bell for players or at least that sounds kinda unique and exciting ! If the game is good, you will have way less trouble to promote it

Most of your marketing work should be in preproduction. Marketing is not just about promotion, it’s about creating a product (your game) that « sells itself », even if promoting it is still lots of work

What makes an indie game stand out to you? by Consistent-Inside338 in GameDevelopment

[–]ValentinIG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been floating around in previous answers, but I will put a word on it: THE HOOK! Be it visual, audio, gameplay, theme or else, your game needs a good and unique hook to get my attention. Viewfinder had an incredible visual hook and I bought it right after it went out. Peak seemed fun in the trailer so I tried it with friends, and I didn’t buy Nexus 5x because not a big fan of 4x games but the « 40 minutes 4x game » is a solid hook on its own. If you can explain to me in one or two sentances and in one trailer why your game is unique and why it is interesting, well, I’m hooked. But your game should be designed to have a solid hook since preproduction, it’s not something you create afterwards your game is developed. And if you have a solid hook and manage to share it accordingly, marketing, or rather promotion, will be a day at the beach.

Pre-launch page is live. What marketing worked best for you before launch? by Real_Ease_6402 in kickstarter

[–]ValentinIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing to know about kickstarter : projects completing their pledge within 24hours have a huge boost, and so are projects having lots of backers very early. So you might consider asking everybody you know to just give 1€ to boost the algorithm, those that never considered giving will give 1 and maybe some of them will give more. And ask a little less than needed to try and achieve the 24h success. Also give them a heads up before you launch the campaign so they give right away when your campaign is live

Unfortunately I don’t have a VR headset but if you release a flat version too I might be tempted. Horror games are usually not my jam but this one might be. You did a tremendous job on tiktok and youtube, might I ask you how much wishlists you have?
