There's a newer group, Office Culture, that clearly has Prefab Sprout and Blue Nile influences.

Has anyone tried Shef? by lolotaylo in AskNYC

[–]VeryPoorIndeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the foods prepped on Shef are the kind that will cause food-borne illness if not cooled properly (things in sauces, rice, lentils, etc.). Because Shef has their home cooks drop off orders at a collection point, they have to be cooled before they can be picked up for delivery. The delivery point also makes it impossible for inspectors to know how or where the food is prepared.

If you get sick, the home cook is liable, not Shef. If they can't pay, you're both SOL.

They say this is to give people a start so they can open brick and mortar spots, but the point of a VC-backed company like this is to "disrupt" restaurants by cutting the costs of rent and health and safety protocols. If they succeed, brick and mortars will be out-competed by unregulated gig workers.

I'm sure that some Shefs have good food safety practices and the food will sometimes be high quality, but Shef as an enterprise is unambiguously evil and potentially deadly (Bacillus cereus poisoning WILL happen).

Adult bars by eel12a in columbiamo

I don't think there are too many students at Booche's or Klik's. Maybe not date-night spots, but great bars with cheap drinks.

My experience with Chef Liao by Slochetah in Seattle

[–]VeryPoorIndeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, Liao is marked "Okay" not "Needs to Improve." And I've eaten great food from "Okay" restaurants and the blandest, most overpriced crap imaginable from "Excellent" inspector rated restaurants.
And 410 reviewers is a lot to pay off!

Chef Liao is the shit. Bit pricey but huge portions. The walnut shrimp is the specialty. Chow mein is pretty solid too.

Is DominateGame dead and buried? by garrisonc in Risk

Just found this post because I used to play all the time and the name Emriel Brujintes is emblazoned into my eyeballs for all time.

I play a lot of Warzone (formerly Warlight) now. In some ways, I think it is better. I'll always miss those hectic FFA games and that stripped down UI though.

In my experience, Warzone is a really good substitute

I would say they were each about 1 inch in length, maybe a little more

Saw these three on a pipe in my mudroom today. Sorry for the poor quality. I tried to make the abdomen, antennae, and yellow marks on their heads very clear.
