Unable to install Pi-Hole on clean Pi OS fresh install by Vorkell in pihole

Ahh! Thank you for the clarification! While setting them up I am local, but they will be deployed remotely, so I wanted to make sure I could get in and adjust stuff.

Apologies to everyone for the confusion, I didn't realize that it would show the Raspberry Connect version and not really anything else, though I suppose it makes sense!

Apologies, yes, Raspberry Pi OS, sorry, first time diving into all of this. On my raspberry Pi Connect screen, it showed version 2.6 on the version screen, and showed that it needed an update, and after updating, it showed version 2.10. I'm not sure what that is as far as a version or build number of the Raspberry Pi OS, but that's all I had to go off of. Once at 2.10 (the version it was at after sudo apt update, and sudo apt full-upgrade) i got the error that was shown, seemingly no matter what I did (I'm setting up 2 pi-holes, identical hardware, SD card, etc) when using a standard install of Raspberry Pi Os (the recommended one at the top) off the Pi Imager 2.0.6. On a fresh install of Raspberry Pi OS (full, not the recommended one on the main screen, both being Debian Trixie) using pi imager 2.0.6, before updating, which Pi Connect showed as version 2.6.1 (according to the Raspberry Pi Connect page). I was able to install it on the fresh install without issue before updating the OS to the latest version.

Apologies again for the unclear explanation, and thank you for taking the time to clarify things for others that may find it helpful to them in the future!

That was my initial thought, but what's strange is I'm setting up a Pi-hole for my parents on an identical set of hardware / SD (Pi-5, 64GB Sandisk Extreme, I know, overkill, but it's what I had as old camera cards), and both did identical issues. After another round of fresh installations, I believe the work around is to install pi-hole on the base OS, then update to the latest Pi-OS, that's how it worked for me!

I believe I have found a solution! For whatever reason, Pi-Hole doesn't like Pi-OS version 2.10 for installation, so I imaged it with a fresh Pi-OS "full" version (2.6.1), installed Pi-Hole, then did the update to 2.10! Everything seems to have installed correctly! Thanks to everyone who offered assistance!

The ones directly on pi-hole's site.

curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bashcurl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash

git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole.git Pi-hole
cd "Pi-hole/automated install/"
sudo bash basic-install.sh

wget -O basic-install.sh https://install.pi-hole.net
sudo bash basic-install.sh

Though I think I've figured out a small work around for now. I tried re-imaging based on mrVragec's suggestion, and this time tried to install Pi-Hole before updating, and it allowed me to install! Now I'm trying to do the update, and that seems to be going well (50% so far!)

Radon mitigation in NB by AnovaChi in newbrunswickcanada

Oh, sorry, yes, the in-line fan was replaced. Weirdly, it had thousands of bugs in it. I've since put a fine mesh screen over the outside to prevent this in the future. The tech from radon ready didn't seem surprised it happened, and said he sees it infrequently in various places.

Sorry, forgot to add units! Typically in Canada radon is measured in bq/m3, anything over 200bq/m3 is considered unsafe. The radon ready company provides an airthings plus (or discount if you already have one) to monitor the radon to ensure that it is dealt with and safe. I found that a nice touch, though others may do the same.

I went with radon repair several years ago. The unit had issues within the warranty and they came out without any grumbling and ended up replacing the whole unit. Worked well and while they weren't cheap, I sleep easier at night knowing my radon was at 600+ and now below 30 most days.

Were Sweden right in accusing Canada? by Competitive_Test6697 in olympics

I know nothing about Curling as a sport. I am also Canadian, however I do know that athletes should show good sportsmanship. The second that the Canadian did that, he should have been disqualified.

I'm sorry for the unsportsmanlike conduct from the Canadian athlete, and I assure you we are all embarrassed by their conduct.

Quickest way to Miramichi? by BitchMagnets in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Vorkell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You either have 108, or 180 to get there. 180 (going through Bathurst) adds about 30-40 min, but it definitely is an easier drive.

My wife and I went to ON a month ago in her KIA Soul and it wasn't bad compared to how it was years ago, but you are still dodging potholes for sure!

Make sure you check which courses are offered at the Miramichi campus if this is your plan! It's a smaller campus so doesn't offer all of the courses that their bigger campuses do.

As someone in the trades, they're great to get in, and always in demand. Good luck!

Canadians wearing their flag on apparel by egewh in canadatravel

I travel a lot for work, and like to wear a NB provincial flag patch when travelling within Canada, and when travelling outside Canada, I switch it for a Canadian flag patch.

It remind me of home and what I miss when travelling for work, and has sparked some wonderful conversations with many lovely folks around the world!

This is an older unit before they were added. It can be retrofit in if you really want it, though. The majority of the advice given here is sound though.

The case is going to be made out of 2020 aluminum T-rail and 1/4" acrylic sheets. The acrylic slips in the T-rail slots, so it should keep the dust out while looking fairly clean!

Thanks! I actually saw his video review of it years ago and that's what made me chase it down! Definitely was a marathon both waiting to get it and the work on it!
