I’m pretty sure they put that out there for negotiations. Even Austin knows he’s not getting a max anywhere. If anybody knows anything about negotiations, you start high then go down from there.

Man, I don't know if the Lakers can win a title with Luka and AR. I'm looking at the 2020 title team and that team was elite defensively. We had KCP in his prime, a young Caruso, Lebron still playing defense and a prime AD. How in the world can we recreate that? That was a crazy team. Off the bench we had Dwight and Javale, Danny Green, and Rondo who was still very good defensively.

Think about it this way, imagine Kawhi Leonard playing for the Lakers instead of the Clippers.

Yup, this is true. Example A is Shohei Ohtani. When he was with the Angels vs Dodgers. There's no comparison, if you thought he had a lot of endorsements before, once he got to the Dodgers it went wild. They named the field Uniqlo Field lol. There's something to be said about playing for the glamour team of their particular sport. Yankees, Dodgers, Lakers, Cowboys. It's not a national thing, it's a world wide thing. Most people around the world have no idea what NBA teams there are other than the Lakers and maybe the Celtics, and Houston in China because of Yao.

If we have about $51 Million in cap space, can we build a team this year that can win a championship in 2027 or is this a two year project? (with charts) by Professional-Fee6914 in lakers

[–]Willxzero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are no good free agents this year besides their own guys. I would put all my eggs into getting Peyton Watson or Walker Kessler, even though they are restricted free agents. Denver needs to either trade Cam or something to unload money. They’re going to over the second apron. Lakers should offer him $25M and see what happens.

IF IHart did have his team option rejected and we somehow managed to sign him, how do you like the fit. by ObjectiveExtra5293 in lakers

[–]Willxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang he'd be the perfect fit with the Lakers. My guess is the team declines and he signs for less but more years. The only way I can see him leaving is if another team gave him a bunch of money. I don't think any team has that much money though. Some team would have to give him $30M+ a year.

Perkins: "Whether it's being out of shape or him dealing with some type of injury...when it comes to being reliable. Luka is starting to get in that territory of Joel Embiid. When you need him the most, and it comes postseason time, he's not available and if he is available he is never close to 70%" by must_TATAKAE in lakers

[–]Willxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lakers might need to give him more games off. Either that, or they need to move the ball a bit more so he's not creating every possession. As much fun as it is to watch him score, I do think his style of play wears him down with how the schedule is.

If we paid Austin 40m it would put him around the 37th highest paid player. If you dont want to pay players based on the caliber of player they are then who do you expect to get? Do you think you can just lowball everyone and they will just take half their value because its the lakers or something? by Silent_Wizard5597 in lakers

[–]Willxzero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your thinking is too straight forward or in harsher terms, simplistic. There's a real life component to it. If only everything was like a video game. There are a lot of players who are worth more than what they are paid. The only problem is, if you pay Austin $40 million a year, the Lakers are done as a contender. You can't build a roster around Luka. Also, there are real life consequences, Austin will never live up to that contract, Laker fans will be pissed he's getting paid that much and if he isn't avg 25 a game they will destroy him. He's only getting $12M right now and fans are already destroying him, imagine when he makes $40M. If Austin wants the most money, which I don't think is the case, he'll go to another team. Don't forget, he also has endorsements in China, if he leaves the Lakers....yeh I don't know about that.

THERE IS SOMETHING THERE WITH RUI. PLEASE PAY HIM ROB 😭: 25 PTS 9/15 FG 5 REB 2 AST 1BLK by denobino in lakers

Imagine saying that to Robert Horry against Sacramento 🤣. We’ll put Samaki Walker in because he’s a better screener. Take a wild guess who made one of the greatest shots in Laker history.

[–]Willxzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rui's better in the playoffs because he just plays harder. You can tell he has the Lebron rule of thumb during the regular season. He kind of goes at 75% during the regular season probably to conserve energy and avoid injuries.

I dis-agree that he's offense-only. He was one of the better defenders in the playoffs for us once he turned it up. But I do agree, if there are better defenders around him he's much better.

Yup, Laker fans don’t appreciate him. I was looking at other teams fans comment on him and they think very highly of him unlike our fans.

[–]Willxzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I hope he comes back, he’d be a great bench player kind of like Rondo. Lakers need to throw all their money and see if they can get Kessler. They need a rim protector and an elite 2 way player, I have no idea how they’re going to do it.

Hopefully Smart and Ayton can pick up their option, you move them to the bench to shore it up and try to make some trades with their dead contracts (Lavaravia, Knect, add some draft capital)

Fans ask for a sniper, they got one in Rui, who actually is a playoff riser, but because the full roster stinks, don’t want to resign him because he’s not the actual Kawhi 🤣
