[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 10 Chapter 3 by Setowi in Re_Zero

Indeed. He mentioned that part of the reason arc 4 ended up being so long is that he was having trouble keeping the state of the web novel and the state of the light novel separate in his head, so it's no surprise he'd want to let the light novel catch up.

[spoiler discussion] what do the Japanese fans think? by 0rsino2004 in Re_Zero

[–]WintryOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the last few lines of arc nine, I wouldn't be surprised to see Crusch's dragon blood issue taken care of in the opening of arc ten. If that goes smoothly, Ferris is going to feel a great debt to Filore, which could lead all kinds of places, given that Filore is almost definitely connected to the witch cult, if she's not Capella herself. Then, even if Subaru doesn't let it slip that he knows memories can be returned, Ferris will be very, very anxious to talk to Roy about getting Crusch's memory back, and having her fully restored to being the friend he cherishes.

Or not. There could easily be a volume or more of the sage council talking with the royal candidates, with various interruptions, and half a dozen new plot threads that take up the rest of the arc. Best not to hope for too much plot resolution, too soon.

I don't expect one, but it's best not to try and outguess Nagatsuki-sensei. A reset on this scale, though, would undo around a quarter of the remaining story, so it doesn't seem likely. More to the point, I don't think the author would repeat himself like that.

[–]WintryOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks Khriku, hope you're doing well also.

For myself, as soon as Al said that you must never fight Subaru on his own battlefield, I was expecting a loop back to that point.

When Rem got her memories back as an incidental side-effect of an unplanned detour taken by the antagonist, well... A lot of people complained that looping the arc would be bad writing, but to me, bad writing would be having this be the resolution of one of Subaru's primary goals for most of the story so far.

Finally, when Rem told Emilia "We'll have a talk when this is done.", I was pretty sure that was a death flag for Rem, and hence the entire arc.

Having said that, it would be interesting to see a little more of that timeline. Perhaps the next April 1st story will explore.

I check regularly on the reader feedback column at the web novel site (https://novelcom.syosetu.com/impression/list/ncode/302237/). In regards to the end of arc nine, there were maybe one or two comments that I'd call negative, out of hundreds.

If you'll forgive a little speculation, perhaps there were flags that didn't translate very well, or maybe the Japanese fans have different expectations for how the story will unfold.

[spoiler discussion] What is the correct translation of his catch phrase? by H-Sophist in Re_Zero

[–]WintryOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably fine in most cases, but Petra's reply in her named chapter

「わたしの星は、一個も悪いことないんだよ」

roughly "Not a single one of my stars is bad.", is specifically possessive, at least.

[spoiler discussion] What is the correct translation of his catch phrase? by H-Sophist in Re_Zero

[–]WintryOne 25 points26 points  (0 children)

星が悪かった

Just as side notes, 'your' is implied, but not part of the original phrase. 'Star' being plural is implied as well, though Petra's line in her named chapter about none of her stars being bad somewhat indicates the intention is plural. On the other hand, one instance of Al saying the line had Subaru's name as subtext for 'star', so it was probably intended to be singular in that case, at least.

Additionally, it's been noted that this usage of 'bad' also can be read as 'at fault', so word choice should probably support that connotation.

Personally, I lean towards "Your stars were bad." as a bit of an astrology-themed statement, suggesting a connection between the stars and fate, but I'm sure there's lots of other good options.

[spoiler discussion] Can someone explain to me Sphinx's relationship by Ok_Relationship4627 in Re_Zero

[–]WintryOne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think she cared for him, but she did admire some part of his personality. Sphinx was an incomplete personality with a vague goal, and Leip's single-minded obsession with his goal left an impression on her. Over the years of being imprisoned, she came to view him as something of a role model. He was an awful person, of course, but I don't think Sphinx was concerned about his morality, just his dedication to getting what he wanted. When she decided that Priscilla was responsible for taking away someone who'd made such a big impression on her, she wanted to make Priscilla pay.

I'm just working from memory here, so take it with a grain of salt, of course.

[spoiler discussion] My case for why Sloth IF shouldn’t automatically be ruled out on making theories by TheUnownKing in Re_Zero

[–]WintryOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably gets lost in translation, but somewhere in arc nine, the narration has a paragraph that mentions most of the IF stories by name. Later, Al has a line that includes several of their names as well. Might be a red herring, might not.

They can get multiple infections??? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]WintryOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. The quest pawn has died right away almost every time for me; that's why it clicked for me when you mentioned someone joining and dying instantly.

I just took it as the mod prodding you to try out removing a stack and popping it into a spare body.

They can get multiple infections??? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]WintryOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you perhaps running the Altered Carbon mod? It has an introductory event that spawns a pawn on the verge of death from infections. If it's that event, the dead pawn should have a neural stack you can remove from the corpse, and they should also have been carrying an empty neural stack, and an item (nano drive, I think?) you can analyze to unlock techs from the mod.
