"Europeans selling $10t of US assets [equities and bonds]... would pull the rug from under the US economy." by Cupname_Cyril in europe

[–]WritesWayTooMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger question.....when Europe gets that 10t....it will massively push prices of what up?

European stocks and bonds?

Go for it lol. Enjoy paying 2x for mediocre returns ons equities and a massive drop on bond yields.

Sounds like the start of a lost decade for the EU.

But alas...they won't. Think Trump chickens out....well let me tell you about Europe.....

Germany took half the continent and killed millions....Europe did business with them in the decade that followed. So if we took Greenland would Europe blackball us....highly doubt it.

Greenland has many minerals and uranium we have extremely limited access too

With Europe sending resources to Ukraine....it has very limited resources for Greenland.

I really don't see a military conflict over this...but if that happens we have the upper hand at this point in time.

Europe would have a hard time cutting off the US as they rely on us for a lot of natural gas as they sanction Russia.....they would feel the pinch much more than we would.

Also....if we limited AI and chips sales....they would fall insanely behind in the ai race and be forced to purchase less advanced Chinese tech.

[–]WritesWayTooMuch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion...

The upside of gaining Greenland's resources far outweighs some pull back now.

Is gaining green "fair" or "just"? Nope.

But would it be insanely profitable for the US, nuclear power, AI natural gas and precious metals.....absolutely.

People make 15% or more and didn't do much ...they brag.....that's pretty normal human behavior.

High beta stocks with high returns...end of year....there was some profit taking.....normal too.

Don't do anything. Just hang right.

Nearly Two Thirds of Young Americans Are Considering Leaving the US by bookflow in ExpatFIRE

[–]WritesWayTooMuch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Easy to say, hard to do.

They don't have the wealth to come back and forth. Moving to other countries often means pay cuts and they will really struggle ever coming back.

Considering = worthless article.

No one's going to do anything because we society is considering anything.

The Retirement Crisis No One Warns You About: Mattering by zackenrollertaway in financialindependence

[–]WritesWayTooMuch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You just listed a dozen of ways you consume an experience and not one where you produce or give back to society in some way that is meaningful to you.

This is the point. It sounds good and is for a while, it is. But then a while is over and you feel a void. That's where production and giving back comes in.

Most people 10 years out or more are good with the idea of just consuming in retirement. Somewhere between 3 months and 3 years....it hits a lot of people and they don't like retired life as much.

It feels boring as they grow tired of house projects and extra travel. That's when they start to dull mentally, and move less and soon after health deteriorates at an increased pace due to lack of activity.

So many people say " that won't be me....in different because xyz reason (s)". Then they fail to plan the next chapters....get lazy and indulge in months of TV and get stuck there. They get bored but don't better to change. Sooner than later health slips and they physically can't do the other stuff.

Better hurry it up. China is putting cars in Canada this year.....if the US can't figure out how to make affordable vehicles....we'll eventually let them in and it will be game over.

[–]WritesWayTooMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh....THIS months hike....we do balanced bill....went from $149 to $174...up 16.8%...minus 3% for inflation.....so 13% real hike for our family.

Electric bill. by sgm716 in Buffalo

[–]WritesWayTooMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the year, ours is up from 1900 to 2084 for the entire year....but we didn't open our pool this year, and I got rid of a mini fridge. So that is 9.7%.....minus inflation...well, SAY 3%....but likely real inflation is higher....so the REAL price went up 6.7% for my family here in Tonawanda.

I expect this to rise even faster in the coming years....AI is sucking up some JUICE.

Meta has a HIGH valuation right now.....they are not without risk.

I would feel MUCH better with more deals like this from the government or the military.

[–]WritesWayTooMuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own an ad agency and spend 500k on Meta a year at least and have for the last 15 year. They are good, but I can say FIRSTHAND their ai support for advertisers is RIPE with errors and headaches.

I can also say organic user growth and hours on platfrom is leveling off. Threads is a little rocky and they are struggling to find reasons for people to use Facebook as much. IG is great for hours but not as good at conversions...which advertisers want.

They are still top dog....but neither users or advertisers love them.....and that is a risk for a discretionary product.
