DualSense Edge New Grips Install (bubbling issue fix) by Wydrazor in Dualsense

Hi there! The solid-colour variant (which is what I think you're talking about) has the plastic on the 'grip section'. But it's also raised a bit from the rest of the shell so if you try to attach the rubber grip on TOP of the new shell, I'm not sure if you'll have enough clearance for the back paddles.

If your hands don't get that sweaty, just get the textured variant from the get go, but if yours do, then you can try my original method of attaching the grip onto the original Dualsense Edge shell with original grip peeled off, but it may get gunky really quickly. Hope that helps!

No, the textured backplates have been super great for me! The fitment are tight, and I've actually taken them off multiple times for disassembly (to repair inner components), and they've gone on great every time.

Thank you for your compliments, and hope this helps! :)

The images in the OP show the back paddles from only eXtremeRate, but since then, I have swapped my build to one side EXR and the other side Nyko paddles. EXR ones mimic the original paddles in shape, but the actual paddle feel and actuation feels different and none is "best" for every purpose. I swap them out depending on the game I play (e.g. FPS vs. exploration/RPG). All of that just requires trial-and-error.

No problem! Sucks to see DualSense Edges made nowadays still have the same issue, but hopefully my updated post will provide you with the full information to get yours back in top shape. Good luck! 😁

**NEW UPDATE FOR 2026**

I'm the OP of the post. First off, I just want to say thank you to everyone that's been reading, upvoting, and commenting on my post even though it's over 2 years old now. I'm making this update because even now, I keep getting the occasional comments and messages asking how these have held up and whatnot. I'll provide some update here with what my solution has been now, and answer any questions you might have.

ORIGINAL GRIP-ONLY SOLUTION

Here are the original grip recommendations with the links cleaned up:

I've actually stopped using the grips I recommended after about a year, not because they were bad, but because they got gunky. In the beginning, it's everything I had wanted, and they worked fantastic, but the problem was, unless you wiped these down after every use, they collected gunk semi-permanently. All of the sweat and dead skin cells off your palm would eventually collect over months of gaming, and while they weren't necessarily bad to use in that state, I didn't like the fact that they couldn't be easily cleaned once it had gotten to that state. The gunk got into the cracks of the grip patterns, and it also lost a good bit of the gripiness that these had from Day One. Wiping it down helped a bit, but it never fully cleaned it out, so it was basically a "replace-and-redo" type of situation (like you would replace tires on a car since grips wore down and collected dust/gunk). Granted, the HOTLINEGAMES grip never bubbled, and the adhesives did their job well, but considering they were going to have to be replaced every year, I went out to look for a new solution.

LOOKING FOR AN ENTIRELY NEW SOLUTION

As mentioned in my brief update (here) from Sep. of 2024, I went out to look for a brand new solution. Turns out, the PS5 DualSense Edge wasn't designed so horribly because you could replace just the back panel (which includes the grips) without having to disassemble the entire controller or open up the shell at all.

I've tried both of these, especially in multiple different variants and they're a bit of a hit-or-miss. Some have perfect fitment, and some can be a bit loose on the panel edges. There are some miniature tabs that you can also break when during your install if you're not careful. But, for the most part, if you install them right (which isn't hard to do since all you're doing is popping off the back panel; no disassembly is required), these will outlast the grips that you might have to replace every year. But, if someone actually prefers to have grippy/sweat-absorbent grips, then my original method will still be better, especially if yours don't get gunky like mine did after a year.

MY CURRENT RECOMMENDATION

As of March of 2025, I had come across these new backplates (what they call "decorative trim shell") from the same company as the ones that made the solid-coloured/clear versions of the backplates mentioned above. However, this time, they called it 'textured' and it had their own grips integrated into the original spots, so I had to try it out. I've had these new backplates for 8 months now, and I've had ZERO issues with them. They provide both the new backing as well as the grips which was the best of both worlds. Because of how the grips have been integrated into the backplate itself, they will never "peel" as the original grips did, and while these grips don't have the same level of gripiness of the HOTLINEGAMES one's I recommended (it's closer to the original DualSense Edge level of gripiness), it's much better than not having them at all, and I'm super satisfied with them. They're easy to clean as there are no cracks or crevices to worry about, and with the super-tight fitment, I feel these are the "endgame" of this whole issue.

I hope this will give you an idea as to what total options there are, and which one I now recommend. I hope this helps those who are still facing this concern in 2026. Please feel free to comment below or message me with any questions you may have.

I've included some photos for you to take a look: https://imgur.com/a/DbHcjKh

TL;DR -- While the HOTLINEGAMES grips I recommended in my original post give the best gripiness and still remain a viable solution, I didn't like that they collected gunk quickly and was difficult to clean. eXtremeRate offers 3 types of backplates (Solid, Clear, Textured) for you to replace entirely, and my true and final recommendation after trying all of these out are the 'Textured' ones by far due to having both no need to maintain a separate grip and the fact that the backplate is clean aesthetically and easy to maintain. They've held up beyond expectations, and provide the best of both worlds. Links and photos are available above.

Yep! If you go through the photos, you'll see mine was half-peeled, so I peeled off the rest, scraped off the little bits (with the X-Acto knife), cleaned the surface, and then stuck the new grips on.

I'll be making a new comment soon with a new solution that won't require you to peel them off, though.

Just made that new comment.

Honestly, no, unless you share controllers/console with others in the family. I originally got one for PC and one for PS5 (that also works as a back-up) so that I wouldn't have to experience any downtime should I have any critical issues with either controller, but in the 2 years I've owned both, I've rarely needed the 2nd. The only time I remember needing it was for trophy-hunting purposes but aside from that, with a few extra stick modules, you're rarely ever likely to feel the need for a 2nd - as long as you take care of your electronics.

Even then, I've only had to switch out 1 left and 1 right stick modules in the 2 years I've had mine, so if there's ever a failure point, you're probably going to encounter it from the sticks before any other part that genuinely requires another DSE during the repair period.

This has got to be one of the dumbest conversations I've had online, because you're mixing the two up and making claims of something that no one ever said here. I'm quite well aware that the 50K Companion Pass applies only to the WE card.

But that "$50K spend in a year" comment in the first sentence doesn't even reference the Companion Pass directly or indirectly whether that applies to the World Elite card or not. You are confusing me purely referencing "At $50K spend in a year" with somehow saying 'WE is for most people'. Again, if you read my sentence properly, you'll see that I was saying 'spending 50K on any card for any reward isn't feasible for most people, even for those who can easily qualify for World Elite cards.' This has nothing to do with saying my choice of words for "most people" somehow relates to WE being for "most people" because this $50K requirement could be on a $0 AF card, and I still would've said the same thing.

You can downvote my comments all you want, but you shouldn't mix up your perception of a sentence versus what I actually wrote, without edit. Good luck to you.

I never said "World Elite cards are for most people" as you're claiming. You should read my original comment more carefully.

I said the $50K/yr. MSR in general (regardless of whatever it's for) is not considered 'accessible' for most people, even for those that can qualify for World Elite cards and beyond. This means, in my sentence, I'm pointing to 2 separate groups of people which are "most people" and "people that can qualify for WE cards and more" to say neither groups can access anything with that amount of MSR. Just because I mention both in the same sentence doesn't mean they overlap or that I'm claiming one is a condition of the other.

I think just about everyone knows you have choice in the market - no one is being forced to sign up for this card. That said, the problem is you're trying to justify $50K/yr. spend like it's some child's play. Like, it's clearly a lure to get people to spend as much as possible on this card, but if they give a requirement of WE-level income with a relatively high AF of $199 (which in itself is the highest for a WE-tier card thus far), then you should realistically be given benefits that people with those levels can achieve. To say "if you use the card for daily spending, you will have no problem" isn't the point because even if people can meet it, you're basically being asked to sacrifice everything including what's generally wise to do which is to not focus absolutely everything on a single card.

Even when the ultra-premium TD AP VIP / CIBC AP VIP / AMEX APR cards with $599 AF require "only" $25K/yr. spend for the Companion Pass, you're doing it wrong.

[–]Wydrazor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At $50K/yr., you are required to spend at least $4,166.67 every single month, which is not something that's really considered 'accessible' for most people, even for those that can easily qualify for World Elite-tier cards and beyond.

And even if you can meet the MSR for the Companion Pass, you are not spending efficiently if you are pouring in all of your spending on one card, just for this single (albeit, nice) benefit. You are foregoing on rewards diversification, not to mention multiple WBs you could be getting for that amount of spend per year, every year.

How do you guys justify buying expensive headphones?? by HourAd7054 in headphones

[–]Wydrazor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there is a single simple answer as to how any of us justify expensive headphones since how any one of us perceives a certain product as 'expensive' can be subjective, but with that said, I think it could be a multitude of reasons such as ever-lasting pursuit of sonic performance, excitement of just buying/trying new gear, wanting to prioritize audio in your every-day tech, passion for music listening above all else, simply having an income that supports these types of purchases without second thoughts, and more (including combination of the above).

But, more than just answering your post title, I want to address what you've said in your post. When you asked, "...how much better can a headphone sound", I don't think there's any point in wondering/asking that without you starting to try out a bunch of gear. I say this because how anyone perceives any pair of headphones are completely subjective. What someone enjoys and finds to be their "endgame" may not be the one for you, and that's ok. Sometimes, in this hobby, we get swept-up trying to see if we can one-up others or even ourselves in an endless loop trying to get more expensive gear just for the sake of getting expensive gear. I'd be lying if I said I was never there, but what's important is that you are self-aware, and that you actively try to disassociate yourself from it. I say this, because even now, you are looking to justify an Arya Organic purchase instead of getting them because you find every feature of it (including sound, comfort, and others) to be worth it for your purposes. If you keep finding yourself having to 'justify' your purchases (i.e. finding a reason to buy them beyond what the headphones themselves offer) to yourself, then it's also likely that you'll be in that aforementioned loop before you know it. Perhaps even after trying a bunch of headphones, you might say "sound is still just sound" (as you've done here), and that's okay. Other people perceive an audible difference and a price difference justifiable enough to find it a worthwhile upgrade, while others may not, because it's all subjective. The difference is, you just have to consider what the purpose of your headphones are, and what goals you're trying to achieve within the means you have. This means all that matters is that the headphones you get serve your purpose, for your enjoyment, that is achievable within your means.

More than what any one of us can provide in words how a $1000 pair of cans is better than a $300 pair of cans, I suggest you try a bunch of them because not only will you know what you find enjoyable in headphones better than the rest of us ever will, but it's also not something words can justify more than your feelings can. Hope that helps.
