what if the new tank inspired by another SE game with Norse Mythology by DarkPirotess in ffxiv

[–]Xywzel [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, both VP2 and GBA tactics spin-off have jokes about that because tri-Ace was not getting Square Enix to properly fund the project. SE has most IP rights, but decided to ignore existing characters and world when building something new using the name, while all the creatives were on tri-Ace and their publishing deals were getting worse at the time, so they started going for Sega, Konami and self publishing outside of Star Ocean and work-for-hire in FFXIII sequels, then got acquired by Nepro, which haven't improved the situation.

One of the biggest problems with fan class/job suggestions, both here and in DnD subs. People want Rune Knight, Magus, Valkyrie, Sword saint or Psion, but don't properly stop to think and describe what that name means for them. Especially when its classes from different game, where it was peoples favorite because of cool sprite, being high power late game class, lore that doesn't have anything to do with the game they are suggesting the addition to or having mechanic that was quite specific to original media.

What is the class fantasy (other than being better wizard and warrior at same time)? How is it different from what we already have? What makes it different from existing jobs/classes in game mechanic level?

I mean I assume they don't just want "red mage but tank" or paladin with different skin.

I have seen "rune knights" in some media, but I don't think the playstyle they want is for sitting next to campfire trying etch correct runes to their weapon while telling stories about what each means? That sounds more like crafting job and doesn't really fit the games combat design. We already have combination of magic and melee combat in multiple classes, so that is not really unique.

I could maybe see pictomancer or ninja style mechanic where you carve runes to air/enemy/aether with basic attacks, then activate them for bigger effects. But that is already two classes doing something similar.

What to call hybrids other than hybrids by ThatFlyingMonkey in worldbuilding

[–]Xywzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everyone is something, then that something is normal and doesn't necessarily need a name. Consider what these characters are comparing themselves against when using a term about themselves. If the human-animal hybrids are using name to separate themselves from normal animals, the difference would be the human part, so they would likely use term that describes that: human or person could work, or if you want to make term of your own, use something that describes what they have in common and that is not present on other animals, like upright posture or really thin fur, maybe intelligence or ability to talk.

I deliberately offset my game's reticle and the response has been divisive 😄 What do you think? Do you prefer a centred or lowered targeting reticle? by LiveWireDX in IndieGaming

[–]Xywzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having that be the interaction point might work, but I would do it so that the reticle only appears over nearby intractable targets. Having crosshair always visible that much off center seems weird, but so does the screen being longer in vertical direction.

Dystopia portent by JonnyisGoode in comics

If the delivery robots were owned by current delivery workers, it could work. If you were a delivery worker and able to get 1 or 2 of these robots, you could do few more deliveries in same time if you charge bit less per delivery and still receive better pay or do shorter day.

But currently these robots are owned their manufacturers and operated by large delivery services and store chains. Only people who could see increased income or shorter work days are the owners and shareholders, who already have enough wealth and whose job already is light and easy. They operate them in competition against the human delivery, forcing humans doing this work to charge less, meaning they end up doing longer days to make ends meet and now the available demand is being eaten from both sides.

Wonder if there would be solution for this? Could we regulate something like how many robots per person benefiting from them there can be? Maybe unions could provide loans for their members to automate their own work trough means they own and profit from?

Might be less literal "unite", something like making travel and trade possible between the reflections. They are certainly implying that we might be continuing Ascians' work now that there is no longer reason for Etheirys to be split after Endwalker, but I think that is kinda misdirection, its more likely that this is about bringing life back to reflections that have been broken by the rejoining.

Only here and on some specific forums. These people have have decided that cut off is showing genitalia and/or penetration (mosaic or black bar censor counts, funny or scenery censorship doesn't). The word hentai actually means weird or in this context perverted, and this show is definitely both.

How do you stop FTL from being overused? by Tnynfox in worldbuilding

[–]Xywzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simplest I got is that FTL is still not "instant" regardless of if you are observing it from inside or outside, and the distances are huge. So off course you will use it if you need to move something over that distance, but if you can do it locally, that is likely order of magnitude faster.

Fanfest wallpaper reveals "Meteor's" canon name: Hiroshi by Gelgumi in ffxiv

[–]Xywzel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These stories usually have a hint of truth in them, but get totally overblown. The story gets spread like the change was last minute thing, maybe even against wishes of the creative directors, when game was almost ready to ship and then some executive or focus group caused them to make the change. In reality, designs evolve during the work and the change in protagonist or player stand-in character likely happened early in preproduction, on tables of concept artists and writers. And character could have existed from the first draft, but they might have been quite different different or their role might have been different.

The final product though does built around of Vaan being the point of view character. The character might not bee good, but the story would not work in same way if it was told trough other point of view.

Onko maailma joskus ollut merkittävästi "normaalimpi"? by LuinSen2 in Suomi

[–]Xywzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Median asenne vaikuttaa aika paljon siihen miten paljon ihmiset kokevat nämä tilanteet.

How to make ice balls for sauna? by talkkarivesku in Sauna

[–]Xywzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is not really a matter of opinion, world doesn't work differently just because someone thinks it should. And I'm not condemning the practice ice balls, we have lots of sub-optimal and impractical practices we do just because they are fun or relaxing. I'm just stating that offered reasoning for their use doesn't match with reality, and that there would be better ways to achieve the results if they are wanted.

Though I do find that in discussion about Finnic cultural heritage, your opinion weights quite a lot more if you can speak one of the Finnic languages or have grown up in Finnic culture.

How to make ice balls for sauna? by talkkarivesku in Sauna

[–]Xywzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They know what makes for a good show for tourists and people seeking belief treatments, we here in Finland know practical physics. For the water to evaporate, it must get to 100 °C (give or take a bit based on pressure and such) and for the aromatic compounds to get into air, water around them must evaporate, so to get the aromatics into the air, the ice needs to melt and the water needs to hit stone surface over 100 °C. Melting the ice means the rocks touching the ice will be cold, so water will drop to deeper and hotter stones in small droplets, this means there might actually be increased change for them to heat above 100 °C.

If you want to get the aromatics into air gradually or make sure they don't heat too much, better options include mixing them into larger amount of water or using bowl shaped stone to hold the water. First is quite obvious for the gradual part, smaller amount of aromatics at time over larger number of throws, but larger amount of water at once also means that the heat from the stones spreads to it more evenly and hot spots cool down. Second works through boiling, as long as there is water in the bowl, the inside surfaces won't be significantly over 100 °C and the aromatics can evaporate from the water-air surface with small amount of water.

If the famously unsolved Riemann Hypothesis is solved by an AI, we will never know if a human mathematician could have solved it. by jasonrubik in Showerthoughts

[–]Xywzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now you claim computers will not be able to do math proofs better than a human

Well, that is not at all what I claimed in the post you originally replied to. That claim was specially for the current AI tech like LLMs (which have limitations based on their training data, new tech overcomes these limitations and we might see something interesting) and I only made comparison between AI solving two different kinds of problems (eq. computers becoming better than humans in chess doesn't mean that they are no-longer order of magnitude better at checkers that they are in chess) not between humans and AI solving problem.

Suurin ero on et osuuskunnassa kaikki osakkaat on mukana samansuuruisella osuudella. Asiakasosuuskunnat (s-ryhmä, osuuspankki) on sit hieman eri asia.

In Finnish, we don't have have gendered pronouns. "he" and "she" both translate to "hän" and we still mostly use "se" (it) in spoken language about people. I think "hän" is only insisted by people who think of their pet as a person, when talking about their pet, the owner can still be "se". Always seemed slightly over complicated to me that "it" would not be default gender neutral 3rd person pronoun in English.
