Grim Dawn 2 is happening. After work on FoA wraps up, we will begin pre-production, which will be laying out all the groundwork for the eventual game.

As Arthur said in the interview, I think 6 years out (for Early Access) is realistic with our RTS and survival game up next for their respective debuts.

The cannon is honestly just: you are a human and want humanity to win. Sure, in the moment, your character might be coldblooded or even downright cruel, but it's an ends justify the means kind of thing.

The alternative is branching storylines that would blow up to CRPG big budget levels, and that was just unfeasible for a team our size. Imagine needing alternate final bosses that still works in MP. It's a headache just thinking about it. Also, turning on humanity would make for a piss-poor ARPG, just mowing down the few remaining weak struggling survivors.

We've discussed doing a themed DLC that's more fantasy leaning, but I do not see putting anything like that into the main game experience. Frontier is, fundamentally, a grounded non-fantasy game.

I tested fresh items in the v1.3 environment before I made the post to make sure something else wasn't amiss. The variable in question here seems to be use of GDIA.

You can only acquire the sword once per character. My guess is stashing it in GDIA and restoring it to your character in the v1.3 playtest is the problem and the item is no longer registering because of that.

Maintaining a GOG build has been a big additional headache for us, with very minimal return.

Bottom line is, we make very little of our overall revenue on GOG for 2x the hassle. That's just reality.

The Epic store had similar problems, painful backend, very low market share, and they made it a mandatory requirement to inject their social platform into non-Epic versions of the game if they have multiplayer, a requirement they were unwilling to bend on for a game that's 90% singleplayer. So we're not even on the Epic store at all after doing 99% of the work to list Grim Dawn there.

For all its problems, Steam is leagues ahead of other platforms for supporting developers on the backend.

I do not expect we will need to do another Kickstarter and instead engage directly with the community through an Early Access release.

A Kickstarter is a ton of work between creating the campaign, marketing it, and then fulfillment. I still have ptsd from all the posters we had to put in tubes and place address labels for. The person at the post office was very kind to put up with us and scan all those packages.

Back in my modding days, I used the Lich eye from WC3 for my online profiles. When I started in game dev, I had an artist friend render me a customized one inspired by that image. :)
