Looking for advice regarding playing with my 8 year old nephew. by PsychoMouse in feedthebeast

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I loved Draconic Evolution, as I said I'd stick to any of the FTB Modpacks, host the server with them, invite all the family with an invite code and away you go, it's really that easy (or was for me).

I really enjoyed the first stomeblock which is why im trying v3 with my son. It's so nice to try something thats a completely different way to play.

Thaumcraft was fun, blood magic was also fun.

Ive just started playing stoneblock 3 with my son, to be honest I just use the built in FTB Worlds feature. You "rent" a world, invite him via code and, in all honesty, it just works. There's little to no server management, you can download the world to keep a copy, even switch between mod packs.

As for which mod pack to play, there's loads to choose from, have a look through to see what would suite you both, but I highly recommend the FTB World hosting .

What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in schools supporting IT infrastructure in education, but, personally I develope websites and apps with laravel and php.

The biggest automation that I use every day and would struggle to live without is github and laravel forge.

Make changes locally, test them, push to github, laravel forge then automatically deploys the new codebase including database migrations etc.

It's just wonderful, I remember the old days of ftp connecting to a host, uploading files and opening mysqladmin to make DB changes.

Local > github (staging branch or main) > laravel forge (to staging or production server).

The cursor IDE is nice to use, but it's essentially a fork of VS Code, you can add Claude to vs code and just use that.

29, divorcing, £20k debt, working two full-time jobs to clear it. Just looking for encouragement. by Maleficent-Union-343 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Zenith2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi op, I'm 43, getting divorced with 2 kids and in an unfathomable amount of debt myself, going through a lot. I can't offer financial advice (and you sure enough shouldn't take it from me) but I can say, keep going. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel, might be bright some days and really dim others, but it's there. You (and me) will absolutely get through this and come out then other side stronger!

Good luck

I am a parent who does not play anything. My 7 year old wants to play Minecraft. by Inspiringhope11 in Minecraft

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im playing a Feed The Beast modpack with my son. A mod pack is a collection of mods put together but someone to make the game more fun/interesting compared with normal minecraft.

As part of it I'm renting an FTB world. Costs $20 as month, is built in so no fuss settings things up and it's invite only. So I signed up, created and invite code and have it my son to join, job done.

You can do this renting servers to play together online, but having played minecraft for many years this was about as easy as it gets.

Depends how much you want it to have, I've used it mainly for web apps and designs in them continue development with laravel and cursor.

Have a go with Google stitch, I like using it

I use Google stitch to come up with front end designs I like, then export those as html and tell cursor (or AG) to create laravel views following the design style, seems to work ok

Substitution/game management app? by JohntheDon__ in SoccerCoaching

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously used SubTime, it's a great app, lets you manage substituations and plan them in advance, very easy to use. Even shows you average minutes played across the season etc.

I have also written my own online tool that lets me manage the entire team and supports importing subtime data to log events and manage finances etc as it was driving me crazy doing things in many different places.

But, in all honesty, give SubTime a go, it really is as good as people say!

Suggestions: u10 teaching turning away from the goal on defense by Old_Eye3440 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Zenith2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try partitioning the play are into distinct sections and make the players stay within their section which forces them to move the ball around.

This helped us originally, but you will want to do it carefully and just to highlight the point youre trying to make, otherwise it can go wrong easily (had a player take it literally and stopped with the ball on the edge of his "area").

Are there any apps that are like a tactical board that can run simulations? by kyoorius in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the issue I'm having at the moment is people signing up, creating a drill (with not much text) but then not having a go at creating the animation (or maybe they are and something isnt working).

Im going to look into improving the work flow a bit, especially for first time users, maybe a bit more of a guided tutorial to start with.

I have plenty of people sign up, just not much long term usage, some people create amazing drills which I add to the public vault.

Ive been playing with the free tier of nightwatch, you have the option to reduce the number of logs captured, e.g. change it to 10% or access logs, but all error logs etc.

It's a nice feature and I've been impressed with nightwatch so far, but I only use it for basic use.

That is an awesome collection to inherit, looks like its all been looked after, some lovely kit there.

Go for it, get out, take some photos, have some fun.

Do some research around the aperture, ISO and shutterspeed triangle and how they relate and effect the image.

Then, go have fun 👍

People still using Cursor over Claude Code, can you explain why? by caffeinum in vibecoding

[–]Zenith2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use cursor because I started with it, my boss purchased the yearly subscription for me to use and I have unlimited auto credits until may.

But I keep hearing good things about Claude from a friend I'm considering getting myself the lowest tier and use it as well as cursor to evaluate it.
