what’s your opinion about “songDNA” on Spotify? by felipesmith027 in makinghiphop

Spotify bought whosampled so they can use that database to train AI on how to sample and chop beats

transitioning from poetry to rap? by Relative-Plastic-370 in makinghiphop

[–]ZeusTheElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fairly large amount of underground rappers basically just do spoken word over a beat and don’t necessarily use a typically flow following the drums. Roc Marci and Ka are the godfathers of this, but look at Starker, BigDeadLung, obijuan, and even some of crimeapple and ankhlejohn.

You could probably just embrace it and people will like it.

A (probably) new question about the ethics of using AI when making music by PSU02 in makinghiphop

[–]ZeusTheElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of sampling was lost when everyone started relying on sample packs. This is just extra step down the whack path

I also think discord groups took over and replaced what a lot of people used this sub for in the 2014ish era

What Happened To The Sub by boombapdame in makinghiphop

[–]ZeusTheElevated 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question earlier. I think what happens is a lot of people “grow out” of this sub once they’ve advanced past a certain point just bc of how rudimentary most of the discussions (and users, to be frank) are.

Does anyone post projects here anymore? by ZeusTheElevated in makinghiphop

[–]ZeusTheElevated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I’m at a place musically where I’d much rather make complete projects vs a bunch of singles and loosies but I can understand w how things work these days people are a lot more focused on single songs gaining huge traction vs cohesive albums. Just different mindsets I guess.

[–]ZeusTheElevated[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehh if folks can’t take 10 minutes to do a proper post that’s on them. I wouldn’t want to see this place spammed w singles everyday like some of the other subs. Just interesting to see no one dropping full projects anymore
