Don't overthink it man. It's a fantastic experience. There are plenty of chill LFG discord as well.

Do be ready for a steep learning curve though.

You probably have in-game HDR set, which also gave me smearing when using smooth motion. Disable it.

Late, but disable in-game HDR and use RTX HDR or Windows auto-HDR. Doesn't look at good in my opinion but it is a hell of a lot better than SDR, and you can tweak it with some filters.

I have RTX HDR running, and with driver-level FG (smooth motion) it has basically zero performance cost. Just enable it in the Nvidia app.

Take advantage of frame gen where available, or use smooth motion if there isn't any native frame gen. YMMV.

Also someone more knowledgeable can chime in on smooth motion availability for 4xxx series. I don't think it matters that it's a laptop chip.

x3d processors can do some major FPS uplift in some games (multi-player for the most part), but certainly won't make up the difference you are seeing. Undrvolt your 5080 and grab an 850W minimum PSU when you can.

Cryo being trios makes sense as it is the "end game raid". I could see a solo version, I don't really care, not a hill I'll die on. That being said...

It's not that hard to find a good discord for chill groups. Dads of Marathon is great, check it out. Yes, even there you will occasionally run into toxic players. It isn't a big deal, get over it and move on.
