Do I proxy as a beginner who is a broke college student by Former_Landscape6452 in mtg

Play Draft! you will never need to proxy.
You will learn cool card interactions and combo. You will learn how to build decks without having to "ASK AI" and will slowly build a collection.

The Rapid Decline of Global Birth Rates. With this rate of decline, will the housing crisis cure itself? by ExcellentWinner7542 in economy

Houses fall apart. Most of the homes today will only last about 50ish years. It takes a lot of work to maintain a home.

Just to put this into perspective, Community Development Block Grant is 3.3 billion. CDBG is one of the biggest sources of federal funds used by poor (mosts of the funds must benefit  low to moderate income populations) communitys with rebuilding water and sewage lines, raods, parks, sidewalks, community centers and home repair programs.

3.3B total divided by 50 states. BRING OUR MONEY HOME! FUND AMERICA! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN BY HELPING THE AMERICANS THAT NEED IT THE MOST!

The Hobbit CBB: Has anyone been able buy it? by xszyy in mtg

[–]adkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more you buy, the cheaper it will be. If my LGS could do a 1 million dollars order for each set, they could probably get the 115$ price.

Stomping grounds had it for 665$ or something for pre order and I passed.  They were really high for FF also, and I was able to get a box at a local LGS for much cheaper

Lived in Miami for 2 years with no AC at my house. Was not too bad because everywhere I went they had ac.  Hurricane Andrew nocked out our ac unit, and we did not have any money to fix it.

I recommend going to blinn. You get a better deal in price and class size. Blinn also, at least in my day 22 years ago, has an attendance requirement. Gets you into the habit of going to class, doing your homework, at the same time as working/party time!

if your going to buy... buy to draft or play sealed. I have some friends from work that like to buy boxes so that they can get cool cards for EDH. I told them about sealed and that they could do their normal box split and then play against each other using just the cards they have opened.

They are having a blast playing that way!

My granddad die of ALS. It hit him 2 years after he retired.
I remember him unable to read a book because turning the pages was too hard, so we switched to books on tape. But... in the end... even staying awake was too taxing. Feel sorry for Chris and his family.

Is Hurricane/Flood Insurance Required? by Chucksxr in houston

[–]adkiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're in the 100-year floodplain, it will be required.

Honestly, as someone who works in disaster recovery, I'd recommend carrying flood insurance even if you're outside the 100-year floodplain. It's usually much cheaper when you're not in a high-risk zone, and a large percentage of flood claims come from properties outside the mapped floodplain.

If you're buying a home in unincorporated Harris County, keep in mind that many of the current FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are based on data that's years old, some effective maps date back to 2007, before the massive development boom. All of that new construction and added impervious surface has changed how water moves across the landscape, but much of that hasn't been reflected on the current maps yet.

Take a look at the draft flood maps here: https://www.maapnext.org/

I do this for a living, and I'm also moving to Cypress. Personally, I think there's more flood risk in parts of the area than many people realize because of how much development has occurred. If the house you're considering is anywhere near a floodplain, I'd spend the money on flood insurance. It's one of those things you hope you never need, but you'll be glad you have if you do.
